I got a fair few this month, I posted some to NSFGE so in the spirit of giving I'll post mainly different ones here. A couple I'll double post as I THINK someone here will enjoy them.
A guilty pleasure of mine
I've hand a few of these over the years but never kept one for myself, always regretted it, so I got one to keep.

Here's one I've been trying to get ever since I started collecting Bardot. Wolfgang said it is only the 2nd one he's seen in all his years as a dealer, so I wasn't going to let that one pass me by.

This looks like its signed. Who's the artist, T? It almost looks like Grinsson's name written to her right? (I cant make it out, tho).
I would post some of my acquired items, but the sad fact is, Paul kinda gets there first. Making anything I do to be Johnny-come-lately and pointless.
SPECTRE quads, Piracy, and banners all now acquired but, a bit late in the day.
(Note to self to start a new interest.)
Don't know, Jeff, but whoever it is, I really like his style. I can't remember the last time I truly got excited by a poster, but this one is it. Probably one of my best Bardots. I might even consider framing it. I probably won't, but I will consider it.
T
But it's not Grinsson, I can tell you that much. Even in my drunken football state. ;)
Litter is the artist.

I have Subways on various stock. I wouldn't be worried if you are thinking this may be a repro. I think it all comes down to the age and the way the poster was meant to be displayed in the given area. it looks very nice to me.
Thanks, You wouldn't believe how heavy they all are in my poster case wow1 Soon I won't be able to close the lid !! devil 2

new addition, linen backed, I like it, Vic Morrow and Sonny Chiba in a TOEI production, what could go wrong? That is a mighty fine poster Ari and honestly notwithstanding the purists it would not look nearly as awesome with folds. I approve this message! thumbsup.gif

Nice, and no I have never seen it before.
I agree, could be a good candidate for a fix up.
AND FRAME.
Great pickup, the boogie man. I am keen for more posters of Lorre (I think I only have one)
Is Lorre about to commit suicide?! Fun screams bottom left
Oh yes, Ari! This one will definitely be framed once I'm back in a house again.
This is my FIRST Lorre poster. As for the screaming couple...I have a feeling the woman is a man in drag, just based on the credits. There is a "(Miss) Jeff Donnell" credited (!). I also noted a "Slapsie Maxie Rosenbloom" in the credits. Ha!
Paul Love the Laurel & Hardy quad. Is that new? VERY nice and I would love to have some L&H paper in my collection.
Gingerman: I think i speak for everyone here when i say we are happy to have you aboard!
Cheers!
Ah. I'm such a ding dong. I keep forgetting the new acquisitions thread changes monthly...and here we are virtually half way through the month! Ha!
THE BOOGIE MAN WILL GET YOU:
I knew nothing about this flick until i came across it at auction. The condition is something I'd normally pass on (just "good to very good"--but just looking at it you can see it has some issues). Yet this 1942 poster features Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre--two greats--and there was also this blurb poster by the auction house: "Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare one-sheet which we have never auctioned before!" Hmm. It can't be THAT rare. I bid a good amount for it--again, thinking I'd be outbid (in the poster world my bid--which seemed large to me, was actually very, VERY modest) and won it. I hate linen backing, but might consider it for this. Does anyone know anything about this poster? is it really "rare" or was it just one of those flukes where the auction house just never had one before even though it is not that rare? I'm kind of torn about it. It was expensive (for me) but still kind of cool.(http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a66/boinnng/boogie_man_will_get_you_SD03452_C_zps3jdo9b3g.jpg)
Thanks for the help. CHEERS!
I came across this just an hour ago, rolled up in a plastic bin, with other commercial-type posters, at a the small, second-hand shop I have mentioned, that is around the corner.
It's the Advance UK quad for the 1999 BFI re-release of Get Carter (1971), with Michael Caine. I'm normally not one to go for re-releases, but I liked the imagery here and the price was 'right.' This now ups my total quads to 2. (I might catch up with you one day, Paul W (not) ). ;D
I would look into having this stabilized and conserved, using the gel backing process, rather than linen backing
I would love to say this is a new acquisition but it really isn't. It's "new" because I recently found this again after it being lost for many years. A pro-pot rally poster which I believe originates from the mid to late 80's which a friend sent to me because she was one of the organizers. LOTS of good characters in here including Groucho Marx, David Peel, The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, Nancy Reagan, and a paranoid looking Ronald Reagan with a priest collar on. Still in remarkable good shape after all these years of sitting in a closet, colors are pretty good, too!

Wow Ari, Never heard about those films... no idea Sting had one either! ;)
Just a quickie... Let me catch up on what i've missed.
Jedgerley--Boondock Saints--never seen it. Any good? Ah...you have a poster dungeon, like Ari has his Shed of the Damned. I just have a Shack-A-Rama with no room for anything. Waaagh.
Sting was also in the terrific film adaption of the (somewhat superior) British teleplay BRIMSTONE AND TREACLE (see both versions).
Not yet. I'll look into it after the holidays. I'm curious about the gel backing though. From what little I read that seems to be the way to go (for me). I'll let you know when the time comes.
Cheers!
Thanks Ari. You have an encyclopedic knowledge when it comes to films..actually...posters too...actually books...actually ...

This early 70s reissue , great price thought bed1
Where do you get your facts from?!
It's not a reissue, it is printed in 1961
(http://www.mysterycorp.com/temp/Magnificent7_date_P1140534_mod_1000.jpg)
Yeah I have a couple Italian posters that are re-releases however it still says the date the movie was released. Italian posters are a real pain to date/authenticate, and I've certainly seen a few mistakes on EMP looking at their archive. As for this particular poster I'm not familiar enough with it to say one way or the other, but just saying it's not uncommon for the date to be misleading/wrong on Italian posters.
It's not printed in 1961, film had it's first release in 1961. It's a mistake made often, the release information does not cover the actual release in all cases. I'm with TLIR on this one. Paper and lettering are very much late sixties - seventies (have to admit though I haven't seen an original release up close). Btw I hate to say this, but EMP is not the source for the authentication of Italian posters.
Yes, great source for sure.
Looks like the poster may be between 1975 - 1982 going on the logo?
I wonder why the printers wrote first edition 1961 on it for?!
"You can't have a poster from 1961 with a logo that didn't even exist until 14 yrs later"
Actually 6 yrs later , december 1967 to be specific :P
dont worry, its still the same poster you were happy with, so be just as happy, its beautiful. And so you probably paid less because of a logo.
great buy.

Thanks all for clarifying. thumbsup.gif Still chuffed with the purchase. You've really got to be on the ball such as studying the logos though to know what you are getting. A low current bid doesn't necessarily indicate you should be thoroughly checking logos, but I guess if you want to put down a lot of dough worth checking it in detail.
Not a print, but a friend brought these back from the USA for me, probably easy to get hold of, but not if you live in the UK!

Fantastic Satan Claus poster. How can you go wrong with Golden Globes winner Pia Zadora (before she took to tearing down celebrated silent film star mansions because the ghosts were driving her kids nuts, anyway)?
This was the logo in 1967-68:

And then this, from 1969 to sometime in 1975 when it was redesigned again (in that same year), to the one on Steve's poster, as seen above:

lol Thanks Jeff.
I was told that The Burning poster was banned.
I have been after this poster for the longest time. This is the first time Bardot appears on a movie poster. I am officially spending way too much money on paper this month.

T
Deary me that is lovely!
This is the thing about this board, even though my interest is very niche oriented, I do Love seeing other examples of film art. Especially French.
For God's sake T, keep spending fella!
THE BURNING was banned in Germany in 1987 and remains banned to this day. Our censors seriously believe they can restrict people from watching certain films when everyone can order them from other European countries. So German shops are not allowed to sell them but one can buy them legally from Holland or the UK. Makes no sense at all.
One anecdote vaguely related to this: I met a Jean Ubaud (same name as one of the producers prominently mendioned on the poster) in Hong Kong in 1992 where he ran a distribution company called Continental Film Distributors Ltd. and had lots of exploitation titles such as SS EXPERIMENT CAMP or ROBOT NINJA in his catalogue. I am not sure he was still doing cinema distribution then but he certainly did VHS tapes which he sold to rental stores in Hong Kong and Macau. In 1992 I was still studying and on an exchange programme with Macau University. Since I was also collecting VHS tapes back then and wanted some titles that he was distributing, I went to his small office in Kowloon / Hong Kong and talked to him. He sold me a couple of brand new tapes (not cheap) and I was happy. Only later did I find out that he apparently was the person behind some of the financing of THE BURNING.
Armin
sm1 That's funny.
You know, I remember buying the great Choko book on Bardot and thinking, shit, I'll never be able to afford this shit.
(https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5660/23352998696_d50009d4c4.jpg)(https://farm1.staticflickr.com/752/23083363380_88b6b4762e.jpg)(https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5676/23011192029_4593767c0f.jpg)(https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5682/22752002463_58f7c2d4d7.jpg)
Four years later, I own more than 100 of the posters pictured in the book and many more rare pieces Choko would dream of owning. The two pieces I just posted, for instance, I never thought I'd own them, too rare, too expensive, out of reach. But it all happens in time. 100 more posters or so and I should be done with Bardot. Then I have to find another lady to collect, probably Monroe. From Bardot to Monroe, it would be the perfect bridge for me to cross.
T
Congratulations T, that book seems like the perfect guide. I always get all emotional when I see one of my posters in a book ( not that it happens often though!). I assume you have Le repos du Guerrier ( with the couple) wonderful poster. Now, between you and I - dont tell anyone - I am not a Bardot fan, but I do appreciate the thrill and artwork.
Great book.
