Crikey I've started a few months of late...

Anyway, the good news is 'Artwork is back Baby"... Probably for a crap film,  ..still.

I would post some of my acquired items, but the sad fact is, Paul kinda gets there first.  Making anything I do to be Johnny-come-lately and pointless.

SPECTRE quads, Piracy, and banners all now acquired but, a bit late in the day.

(Note to self to start a new interest.)

Nice, Paul.. and with a triple play of monthly openings, too.

A couple arrived today.

2 stone litho Argentinean OS.

The Girl Downstairs (MGM, 1938), with Franchot Tone & Franciska Gaal (She played the same role in the Austrian film, called Katharina, die Letzte (Catherine the Last), made by Universal's Austrian subsidiary, in 1936).

I like how this poster left a blank imprint area at the bottom, too.

The Great Moment (Paramount, 1944), written and directed by the very talented Preston Sturges. The poster art on this was done by the unknown artist who's mark includes the Greek letter omega.

I got a fair few this month, I posted some to NSFGE so in the spirit of giving I'll post mainly different ones here. A couple I'll double post as I THINK someone here will enjoy them.

A guilty pleasure of mine

I've hand a few of these over the years but never kept one for myself, always regretted it, so I got one to keep.

While in the uk last year we travelled to the town this was set in specifically because I love this film, but somehow never thought of getting a poster, so I couldn't resist when it was on offer.

These two are just special.

Not a nice poster, but I love the film so bad, I have the locandina which is beautiful, I'd like a quad one day. In fact it might be a title I will start collecting seriously when he'll drivers slows down a bit more.
Daphne DM is in my top three writers, (with Poe and Heinlein), and ROEG is one of my favourite directors, so to have a movie that is from both is just heaven. And he did it so well.

(http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww217/offaleater/Daybills/9D108242-1177-4DAA-BEFF-3B52258B14F1.jpg) (http://s721.photobucket.com/user/offaleater/media/Daybills/9D108242-1177-4DAA-BEFF-3B52258B14F1.jpg.html)

Another I've owned many times over the years, all gone, and a film I just loved as a kid, when King was my favourite author, (then I discovered Poe aged 12 and I just never enjoyed reading King again, anyway) at the time, this was like the DONT LOOK NOW, favourite writer and favourite director. I have grown up, but the film is still a happy memory

Here's one I've been trying to get ever since I started collecting Bardot.  Wolfgang said it is only the 2nd one he's seen in all his years as a dealer, so I wasn't going to let that one pass me by.

La Femme et le Pantin (A Woman Like Satan) (1959)

A few more that I got in the past week (sorry Jeff).

Les Naufrageurs (1959).  This one by Guy Gerard Noël is actually a double panel...  My pictures are awful, I apologize, but they actually look quite nice next to each other.

Green Dolphin Street (1947) (by Boris Grinsson)

Fahrenheit 451 (1966).  Another Noël.

And this Jap. B2.  No need to name the movie.  Just because I had to get it.

I'm expecting a big haul soon.  Hopefully in the next couple of weeks.  Can't wait.

This looks like its signed. Who's the artist, T? It almost looks like Grinsson's name written to her right? (I cant make it out, tho).

Nice wins, T.  That one featuring Ms. Bardot is a beaut.

A lot of photobustas in that good of condition, especially in complete sets, are like unicorns, eh?  When you consider that, maybe you weren't "over-paying" so much, and it's a darn cool set.  thumbup

Don't know, Jeff, but whoever it is, I really like his style.  I can't remember the last time I truly got excited by a poster, but this one is it.  Probably one of my best Bardots.  I might even consider framing it.  I probably won't, but I will consider it.

But it's not Grinsson, I can tell you that much.  Even in my drunken football state.   ;)

T, as a comparison, only.. what do you think of this other, first release, German style? I like the double profile with Bardot and Satan behind her.

This one was done by a German artist named Ahrle.

Jeff, I have replaced your picture with mine, without the emovie name on it.

Design wise, I like the black version better, even though the Ahrle is really nice.  It is also much rarer than the Ahrle version, which I had seen a few times before I bought it, but not since.  I think these are two really cool posters, to be honest.  The Italian is also beautiful.

There is a book which i thoroughly recommend which has examples of the best German artists including Litter. His "On the waterfront" and "Rebecca" are truly excellent.

Lot of theaters in the states boycotted playing Scouts Guide and Paranormal Activity due to the closing gap on the one demand market. Took a pretty heavy hit, Paranormal played about half the screens on opening weekend as a normal wide release.

I am with the theaters on this one, not a fan of streaming at all.

The art also looks very close to that used on the UK quad. The eyes on the creature here, tho, have more of a "wide glow" and are not as outlined. I think this truly is some creepy art, and works well on the poster.

I normally don't share pics of acquisitions reflecting art from a poster I already own in a different size. However, this is my first subway poster, and it brought with it a question..... The size is correct 45x60, it is single sided, glossy, the printing detail and quality on the front is just like the OS and Shelter I already have. My question is in the paper. It was printed on a light bluish/grey paper. It is not very thick paper either plus it is coarse on the back. Is this normal for Subway posters?

Sorry for the crap photo....the wave in the middle is a small height difference in the 2 tables.

I had a UK 40x60 with a light blue paper stock similar to what you mentioned here.  That is the only other poster like that I've seen.

Jeff Just in case you couldn't tell Constantine is one of my favorite films...since the paper list is pretty short I figured why not go for the set?!? I still need a couple more. Also my only subway poster to date. Kinda funny because the only quad I have is also Constantine.

Brandon Thank you. I had, until yesterday, never seen this kind of paper used for a poster. It reminds me of blueprint paper.

I have Subways on various stock. I wouldn't be worried if you are thinking this may be a repro. I think it all comes down to the age and the way the poster was meant to be displayed in the given area. it looks very nice to me.

I wasn't really thinking repro per-say, I had just never seen that type of paper before! Thank you, I am also happy with the poster. The condition is very nice considering the size. It only shows very small wear (minimal scuffing) on one edge.

I didnt realize it, until I just posted in the Movie board (and was doing a little research on it), that Dracula Has Risen From the Grave was released in the UK, on this very day (Nov. 7), back in 1968.

So it's a bit ironic that this Swedish insert (stolpe) for the same flicker should arrive today.

(The film opened in Sweden, several months later, on March 17, 1969).

I hope you're not stacking rolled posters with folded posters.  Your Young Guns and Rollerball look folded.  If I were you, I'd keep the folded posters in that case thingy and the rolled posters in tubes of 50.

Here's what I use... https://www.bagsunlimited.com/p-3859-rolled-poster-storage-tubes.aspx
And this https://www.bagsunlimited.com/p-5169-rolled-poster-sleeve.aspx, one per tube to prevent the outside poster from touching the inside of the tube.

I probably have 100 of those tubes and I roll up to 50 posters in it.  I store them vertical.  Storing them horizontal will eventually create waves on your posters.  I've been doing it ever since I started collecting (about 15 years) and my posters are as mint as they were when I first stored them away.

The folded posters are in flat files.

Just FYI.

I am but they are in 100 microns archival sleeves 2 posters per sleeve obviously same type posters i.e folded with folded and unfolded with unfolded. Sleeves are pretty thick so not worried  :)
Prob why it's so bloody heavy too, Thanks for the heads up though.

Had this arrive today, after a long "visit" in NY customs (since Oct 21st).  faint2.gif

An Italian 2-foglio (39x55 inch) for the martial arts film, called The Invincible (1972)

The intense tri-color and dynamic energy (movement on the poster) caught my eye. And the images reminded me of the figures in the discovered, Chinese "Terracotta Army."

Italian 2F (39x55 in) for Howling II (1985). From all I've read, the movie is quite a stinker, even tho the script was written by the author of the original Howling story. It also stars Christopher Lee.

The poster art, by Kirby, almost has a comic book feel it. And I think it works very well, even tho the imagery has little to do with the actual film. The poster also has a snipe attached over the original distributor's name in the upper right corner. Tho it's not intrusive, it could still be removed, but it doesnt bother me (at least right now).  ;D

Lyn, you've got to be closing in on a full WZ set, congrats.

Never seen the Howling II - quite lovely, and it has the same vibe as the French moyenne for Curse of the Werewolf.  Would be interesting to see them together on a wall.  The first Howling is my absolute favorite werewolf film, I don't ever recall seeing #2 either or any of the seemingly unending number of sequels for that matter.
Title: Re: November 2015

Thanks Lynn. And that coming from the horror meister.  notworthy.gif

Peter, i think the first Howling is a great flicker, too. No doubt. Dee Wallace, Christopher Stone, John Carradine and Joe Dante's direction are fantastic. And Rob Bottin's makeup FX--creepy to be sure.

This one, tho, I think failed on many levels (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howling_II:_Your_Sister_Is_a_Werewolf). It was even mentioned later on (and after the fact) that Christopher Lee was was not happy he had signed on to be in this film.

But I think this Italian poster is cool.

I've been on a fool's quest to get all of the "greens", the 38 re releases on DRACULA, FRANKENSTEIN, WHITE ZOMBIE and THE OLD DARK HOUSE.  ODH is not as much of a priority as the first three.  But, one more on WZ and D and the book is closed on them.  FRANK needs 7 and ODH all 8.  I just hope there's enough sand left in the hour glass to get'm all, 49% and counting  :).

Came across and (literally) picked this one up, on Monday, from a local seller.

Rolled, US SS OS for John Carpenter's Vampires (1998). I think this poster design works really well for a "modern." And you can't go wrong with Sheryl Lee - who will forever be, for me -- Laura Palmer.   thumbsup.gif

Matt@ that poster is such a treat. It reminds me of Pans Labyrinth. Fab design!

Yet again more kung fu Thai posters, I just can't get enough of 'em.  These 2 are unique - THE BOXERS is a hand painted and not many Shaw Brothers films got the hand painted treatment, mainly they just repurposed the original Chinese artwork.  Also the other is a Bruceploitation film painted by Tongdee who only painted a few Kung Fu releases.  They were primarily done by a great artist named Kham and some of his associates.  But when Tongdee paints a kung fu poster it stands out.  Still taking crappy pictures, i just don't have it in me to get out the vacuum table and lights yet.

Ah. I'm such a ding dong. I keep forgetting the new acquisitions thread changes monthly...and here we are virtually half way through the month! Ha!

Lots of good stuff i've missed. Jeff, that HOWLING 2 is VERY nice. Good eye. i would have probably passed over it because the film was such a turd--but lots of crappy flicks have GREAT posters--as you obviously know. (And I've also played tourist and been to the BABY JANE house. ha!). Ari the space invaders thing (I was trying to translate??) is all kionds of awesome. Gingerman--great horror posters. You almost can't go wrong with horror and the OMEN especially is cool. Lynn---oooo those lobby cards are fantastic, but I am especially jealous of that WHITE ZOMBIE! Yowza!  Mr. Wright, what can i say about the Thais that i haven't already said? Thank you again for introducing them to me through these threads. So beautiful. Man, Paul...love that SCOUTS GUIDE quad. That is NICE!! And Thierry, while you can't go wrong with Bardot, i really dig your Japanese CHAINSAW poster!  Oooo!  Angeflyover welcome aboard and your MOCKING JAY is sweet! Gargoyle 67--the same can be said for your PULP FICTION and your JURASSIC PARK (I don't think i have a JP yet. Waaagh!). Steve...SUPPLENTA VA EN CITTA? Why am i not surprised? Nice!  Harry Caul...oooo that OMEN is so cool-i-o!!!!!

Okay, I don't usually post here anyway. I just post my new stuff on my personal thread. But, why not? Here are just 5 of the recent things i got that I really like and will share...and one of which I have questions about.  (And by the way Gingerman, I agree. Halloween should be an at least monthly event!)

COLOSSUS THE FORBIDDEN PROJECT (German):

Not my usual thing at all. But I was drawn to this one by the simplicity and the colors. It just popped for me.

CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS:

This is not the greatest zombie flick ever (hardly). Not much even happens until you creep up the end of the flick, But the poster is kind of fun--and hard to find. I got one (finally) a few months back--but it has too many issues for me to be happy with. Recently there were two up for auction--closing both the same day. I wanted one and bid big on both, knowing I'd be outbid for sure on both or at least one of them. Oooops. I won BOTH! Ha! I'm such a dork...

LAST SURVIVOR (aka MONDO CANIBAL - MONDO SALVAJE) (Spanish) and CANNIBAL (Lebanese):

Just a couple of wild (and gruesome) cannibal posters i picked up recently. That face in the middle of the first one is just so HUGE in person. EEK!

THE BOOGIE MAN WILL GET YOU:

I knew nothing about this flick until i came across it at auction. The condition is something I'd normally pass on (just "good to very good"--but just looking at it you can see it has some issues). Yet this 1942 poster features Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre--two greats--and there was also this blurb poster by the auction house: "Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare one-sheet which we have never auctioned before!" Hmm. It can't be THAT rare. I bid a good amount for it--again, thinking I'd be outbid (in the poster world my bid--which seemed large to me, was actually very, VERY modest) and won it. I hate linen backing, but might consider it for this. Does anyone know anything about this poster? is it really "rare" or was it just one of those flukes where the auction house just never had one before even though it is not that rare? I'm kind of torn about it. It was expensive (for me) but still kind of cool.

This is my FIRST Lorre poster. As for the screaming couple...I have a feeling the woman is a man in drag, just based on the credits. There is a "(Miss) Jeff Donnell" credited (!). I also noted a "Slapsie Maxie Rosenbloom" in the credits. Ha!

Paul Love the Laurel & Hardy quad. Is that new? VERY nice and I would love to have some L&H paper in my collection.

Gingerman: I think i speak for everyone here when i say we are happy to have you aboard!

I came across this just an hour ago, rolled up in a plastic bin, with other commercial-type posters, at a the small, second-hand shop I have mentioned, that is around the corner.

It's the Advance UK quad for the 1999 BFI re-release of Get Carter (1971), with Michael Caine. I'm normally not one to go for re-releases, but I liked the imagery here and the price was 'right.' This now ups my total quads to 2. (I might catch up with you one day, Paul W (not) ).   ;D

It sounds (from reading the condition report), that this cool looking poster is in need of some much needed TLC and "support." It has really Great graphics, Shawn. Congrats!!  thumbup

I would look into having this stabilized and conserved, using the gel backing process, rather than linen backing (only if you want, of course). At least get a couple quotes from Poster Mountain and Lumiere (Mario Cueva) and see what they have to say about it.  ;)

MAGG-- As a side note: Actress Jeff Donnell was born Jean Marie Donnell (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Donnell).  "As a child, she adopted the nickname "Jeff" after the character in her favorite comic strip, Mutt and Jeff. To avoid gender confusion, she was sometimes billed as "(Miss) Jeff Donnell."

So there was no cross-dressing in the flicker..LOL. She was all woman.  ;D

I would love to say this is a new acquisition but it really isn't. It's "new" because I recently found this again after it being lost for many years. A pro-pot rally poster which I believe originates from the mid to late 80's which a friend sent to me because she was one of the organizers. LOTS of good characters in here including Groucho Marx, David Peel, The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, Nancy Reagan, and a paranoid looking Ronald Reagan with a priest collar on. Still in remarkable good shape after all these years of sitting in a closet, colors are pretty good, too!

I love this poster for so many reasons. The art is hysterical and well done at the same time. The play on the ridiculousness of the Reefer Madness. The double SS lightning bolts in the word Madness..... But more for the political purpose it served during the time it was used. I am not going to get into a long political statement here....so let say this. I do not smoke, but I completely feel without a doubt in my mind legalization is needed. Maybe I will make a thread in Politics in the future......

Mahmudf, you hit the jackpot with these 2001 'still/poster thingys.'
They are seriously exquisite.
Thanks for responding to my query
Please remember to leave them to ME (that's me as in TED) if anything... uh, were to happen...

In a related vein, I have been digitally restoring some 2001 fotobustas for use on my blog.
As you know, fotobustas get busted up bad in use, so I chose some large scans to practice with.
I'm a beginner with Adobe Photoshop, so don't critique them too hard.

Advance UK quad for the 1999 BFI re-release of Get Carter (1971).

Just a little update on this one. While an artist isn't named, the design firm is, on the right border, in very tiny print.

It's a company called Eureka! Design Consultants, Ltd.

good film
(http://i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag423/harrybootlace/Daybills/Daybills_zpseaeb51xj.jpg)

I LOVE this movie, Indiana Jones ripoff in 3D. I saw it on the big screen (in 3D) in Sydney, in the early 90's.
Half the crown walked out (4 people)
I CHEERED. really good fun.

I have a suspicion about this movie and its aussie release.
I never see the daybills USED.
I do have a press sheet for it, in a 16MM release (!)
Im not convinced it played at proper theatres.

Just a quickie... Let me catch up on what i've missed.

Zowie Gingerman!  A first release TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE? Awesomeness!  I'd love one, but have just contented myself with a New Line re-release. Great find for you!!!

Mahmudf--those 2001 giant stills are just amazing (and probably worth some amazing big bucks, perhaps!). Those would be incredible framed and in a single room or hallway. Awesome find for you as well.

Ted---Oooo look at you Mr. Photoshop guru. I am super impressed. That work is brilliant.

Posteroid--LOVE those Japanese B2s, especially NOT TONIGHT HENRY and EUROPE BY NIGHT! Groovy!

Jedgerley--Boondock Saints--never seen it. Any good? Ah...you have a poster dungeon, like Ari has his Shed of the Damned.  I just have a Shack-A-Rama with no room for anything. Waaagh.

Steve--the Magnificent Seven is clearly a big winner!  Bravo!!!

Ari--Quite the haul! LOVED the movie TOURIST TRAP and have the US one sheet. I also dug TREASURE OF THE FOUR CROWNS and saw it twice in the theaters (both times I only counted 3 crowns--where the hell was the 4th?) . Great old school in-your-face 3D on that one.  I've seen that WOMAN FROM DEEP RIVER daybill other places. But is that really CANNIBAL FEROX (aka MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY)? Some of the poster art is the same. THIEF OF BAGHDAD looks fun (never saw it) and I used to hang my HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME one sheet up just inside my front door ever April (guess what happens in April? UGH!). I agree with Jeff--love the shish-kebab in the face graphics! Groovy haul!

Thanks for noticing man.  Boondock was one I thought I would have to wait many more years for one to show itself.  Its ok and worth a look. and then follow it up with "Overnight: The Rise and Fall of Troy Duffy"  a documentary detailing how Troy who wrote the movie was taken under Harvey Weinstein's wing and how his amazingly large ego fucked it all up.

It's not printed in 1961, film had it's first release in 1961. It's a mistake made often, the release information does not cover the actual release in all cases. I'm with TLIR on this one. Paper and lettering are very much late sixties - seventies (have to admit though I haven't seen an original release up close). Btw I hate to say this, but EMP is not the source for the authentication of Italian posters.

Yeah  I have a couple Italian posters that are re-releases however it still says the date the movie was released. Italian posters are a real pain to date/authenticate, and I've certainly seen a few mistakes on EMP looking at their archive. As for this particular poster I'm not familiar enough with it to say one way or the other, but just saying it's not uncommon for the date to be misleading/wrong on Italian posters.

The "T" Transamerica logo was not around until 1968 , 1st issue had the UA hexagon/"coffin" logo.

(Beware of 007 TB locandina which has the UA coffin logo but printed by Rotolitografica , I don't think Rotolitografica started until late 60s at earliest.....it's Rotolito who printed 1st issue locandina , I've the 2sh so I know this for sure)

Title: Re: November 2015

I am keen to know the facts on the date of this poster and learn more about dating Italian posters. It will be very interesting to learn if the date given on the poster is not as it seems. I will need convincing evidence rather than general thoughts so I'm not yet swayed from the poster evidence and EMP yet! Though I must say the paper quality and printing quality seem quite good, so I am open to it being of a later printing.

(Edit... ok, thank you very much Tang & ddilts, I'll investigate the logos)

Jeff, when I take photos of my posters, I take around 10 or 15 including all the little bits of text around the edges, artist signatures, distribution company logos reverse side etc. So I have the photos you have requested (below). Also the 2 panels look there is a slight discolouration of the lower panel, though I didn't see it when looking at it and might have been exaggerated by the flash.

The logo seems to be the solid clue here, tho, too, dont you think? You can't have a poster from 1961 with a logo that didn't even exist until 14 yrs later.

If so, that would be spooky!   faint2.gif

Here's the '61 first release, with the original UA logo:  ;)

Actually 6 yrs later , december 1967 to be specific  :P

I wonder why the printers wrote first edition 1961 on it for?!

It just means that's when the movie came out , not nessesarily when the poster was printed.

This was the logo in 1967-68:

And then this, from 1969 to sometime in 1975 when it was redesigned again (in that same year), to the one on Steve's poster, as seen above:

Thanks all for clarifying.  thumbsup.gif  Still chuffed with the purchase. You've really got to be on the ball such as studying the logos though to know what you are getting. A low current bid doesn't necessarily indicate you should be thoroughly checking logos, but I guess if you want to put down a lot of dough worth checking it in detail.

dont worry, its still the same poster you were happy with, so be just as happy, its beautiful. And so you probably paid less because of a logo.

What???  More Bardot?  Ce n'est pas possible!!!!  This little piece from 1956 is linenbacked ( devil 2) and is not so little since it measures 94x126 inches.  The darkness on the poster is due to a bad Photoshop assembly.  It is mint.

Yes, they were.  ;) As was mentioned in an earlier post, the " blue T" logo was first used in 1969 and was used up thru 1982. The Transamerica line is what changed (as well as the location of the " blue T").

From 1969-75 it was this:

Looks like Thorn EMI video might have released this in the the early 80's too, Mike.

Hand Made Films was the UK based distributor, who dealt with its release in West Germany, too.

And this was interesting to read, too:

"Made at the height of the low-budget slasher film craze fueled by the success of Halloween (1978) and Friday the 13th (1980) in the early 1980s, the film has become notable for being the first from Miramax Films. Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, who in later years would head major companies such as The Weinstein Company, produced the film. The film is also the feature-film debut of Seinfeld's Jason Alexander as well as Fisher Stevens and Oscar winner Holly Hunter."

Four years later, I own more than 100 of the posters pictured in the book and many more rare pieces Choko would dream of owning.  The two pieces I just posted, for instance, I never thought I'd own them, too rare, too expensive, out of reach.  But it all happens in time.  100 more posters or so and I should be done with Bardot.  Then I have to find another lady to collect, probably Monroe.  From Bardot to Monroe, it would be the perfect bridge for me to cross.

Title: Re: November 2015
Post by: Posteroid on November 29, 2015, 10:20:53 AM
THE BURNING was banned in Germany in 1987 and remains banned to this day. Our censors seriously believe they can restrict people from watching certain films when everyone can order them from other European countries. So German shops are not allowed to sell them but one can buy them legally from Holland or the UK. Makes no sense at all.

One anecdote vaguely related to this: I met a Jean Ubaud (same name as one of the producers prominently mendioned on the poster) in Hong Kong in 1992 where he ran a distribution company called Continental Film Distributors Ltd. and had lots of exploitation titles such as SS EXPERIMENT CAMP or ROBOT NINJA in his catalogue. I am not sure he was still doing cinema distribution then but he certainly did VHS tapes which he sold to rental stores in Hong Kong and Macau. In 1992 I was still studying and on an exchange programme with Macau University. Since I was also collecting VHS tapes back then and wanted some titles that he was distributing, I went to his small office in Kowloon / Hong Kong and talked to him. He sold me a couple of brand new tapes (not cheap) and I was happy. Only later did I find out that he apparently was the person behind some of the financing of THE BURNING.

I am always grateful to hear that other collectors do not collect what I collect.  I wish there were more like you so I wouldn't have to waste thousands of dollars on some posters.  Alas, I know I'm not the only one on that Bardot kick and it's both thrilling and utterly annoying.

And regarding the book, I'm actually the complete opposite.  I take no pleasure in seeing a poster I already own in a book since I already own it and it's old news.  The pleasure comes from the hunt, from seeing a poster I don't own and getting it.  That's the only thing that keeps me going.

And yes, I have all the Repos du Guerrier posters.

I like The Doctor and the Devils poster, Ari.  thumbsup.gif

Is the film any good?

"From the makers of The Elephant Man"   That could be a good sign.    hmmm.gif

Interesting... A little read about this movie says Tippi Hedren was tossed about by an elephant, interacted with the lions who ruled the house they were in, Melanie Griffith played the daughter and the film took 11 years to film. Have you seen it Ari?

Yeah, I like the simple design too and is my aesthetic pic of the set. I also love the outback so this image appeals. The movie sounds worth seeing even just for the animals in it.

Did you watch THE DAY AFTER as a kid Steve? I remember it was a BIG thing on Aussie TV when we were lads.
Freaked me out.
It was a telemovie in the states but made it to the big screen here.

No, didn't see this one. I don't think I watched any movies before I turned 30... oh, actually yes, watched Storm Boy (for a school class trip) and Star Wars (mums new boyfriend maybe impressing her, we went as a family) .

Still reading about the film/poster of yours  Roar...

About the lions in the film, one reviewer says:
"As it was, seventy cast and crew were injured, including cinematographer Jan de Bont who was partially scalped, Tippi Hedren had her neck bitten, Melanie Griffiths almost lost an eye, Jerry and John Marshall both required extensive stitches, while Noel Marshall was attacked so often it took years for him to recover from his injuries. When you watch Noel in action in this film it is not exactly hard to see why! In fact some of the injuries can be seen happening on screen. It is madness, pure and utter madness."

Check out this movie clip! (http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi3863392537?ref_=tt_pv_vi_aiv_1)

I watched a documentary on Roar not too long ago, very interesting stuff. Sounds like Melanie's step-father was nuts if you ask me.

More reading...

- Hedren fractured a leg, had scalp wounds and also bitten in the neck by a lion and required 38 stitches.
- Griffith was mauled, receiving 50 stitches to her face; it was feared she would lose an eye, but she recovered and was not disfigured - had to get reconstructive facial surgery.
- Marshall was gored so often he was hospitalized with gangrene
- cinematographer Jan de Bont (who later went on to direct Speed and Twister) had to get 220 stitches after being scalped by a lion.

Source 1 (http://www.avclub.com/article/heres-trailer-roar-movie-where-melanie-griffith-ge-216445) and 2 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roar_(1981_film))

Pardon my ignorance but it seems the three lead actors: Tipi Hedren, Noel Marshall and Melanie Griffith at the time of filming were mother, father and daughter in real life (the parents divorced later). Plus Noel's 2 sons also played the 2 sons in the film. The lions were theirs, they had over 100. They were hoping to use the movie to raise awareness about the cruel treatment of big cats in captivity.

Sorry if you're bored reading this, to me is interesting!

Good reading, Steve.

I recall hearing or reading about this, too, a long while ago, so it's great for the memory refresher. And not boring at all.

As a kid this movie scared the sh^t out of me. Especially the visible skeletons of the people when the bomb exploded. For many days i couln't sleep, as i was totally scared of the coming nuclear war. Btw Ari, i feel that we are totally on the same frequency.

Wait a minute... I bought that from you. Why didn't you say something?  i'd have gladly picked something else. And, my stars, you showered me with a ton of free goodies on top of me taking that poster. Now i feel that much guiltier about your generosity. Ha!
