http://auctions.emovieposter.com/Bidding.taf?_function=detail&Auction_uid1=4753553Important Added Info: Note that there are unusual movie posters, but this might be one of the most unusual ones we have ever seen! It was found together with several other similar posters from the same time period, and we are certain it dates from 1968, when this classic movie first opened. But exactly what is it? It is a movie poster that measures just under 30" x 40", but it is not printed on paper! Rather, it is printed on a plastic material that is likely acetate. It has full-color printing on both sides, with a tiny "PRINTED IN U.S.A." in the bottom right of the solid background area. We would have to think that this was intended to be displayed in light boxes, but for whatever reason, it either was abandoned before it was ever implemented, or it was tried and quickly abandoned. Given that we have never seen another poster like this, other than the ones we were consigned (which were found together), we think it is more likely that this got abandoned before it started (perhaps the cost of making the posters was too high, or perhaps theaters didn't want to pay to have expensive light boxes installed). The poster is from the Cinerama release of the movie, and it has essentially the same image and taglines as the style A Cinerama one-sheet, but the words "a space odyssey" are red, and there is red in the center of the poster, which is on no other poster from this movie we have ever seen! There is a teaser poster from this movie that has the star child inside a psychedelic eye, which sells for huge amounts of money, and yet there are a number of examples of that poster. This is the ONLY example of this poster we are aware of! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. As far as shipping this poster goes, it will "re-roll" itself if it is not pressed flat, and we can ship it to the new owner in a tube by itself (we won't combine it with anything else). We could also ship it in a very large flat package, but we are not sure that that would be an improvement on rolling it, and it would cost much more. Please bear in mind these details before bidding on this poster.
