And what an incredible, realized price. Coming from the Browning estate certainly adds to its value and provenance. clap clap

This Blade Runner insert sold for a pretty penny just a few days ago, going for $710.00. And it was linen backed. I always thought that items like inserts, LC and WC, with them being on thicker stock, were normally paper backed. I wonder who the restorer was and why he opted to put it on linen.

I see that this set (cards sold individually) of lobby cards from the 1931 release of The Maltese Falcon went for a total in excess of $25,000.

https://new.liveauctioneers.com/catalog/104551_important-pre-code-movie-lobby-card-auction/?page=3

A rare set from Night Nurse, an early Barbara Stanwyck film, also went for $4,200.

Good to read, Simon.

I figured that linen works fine on thicker stock, too. I was more wondering what the reason was, unless that particular restorer uses linen to back most things he works on.

Interestingly, both the US OS for Frankenstein (1931) and Supernatural (1933) sold for the exact same amount - $107,550.00 (inc. the BP).

And i'm sure the consignor is VERY happy (and relieved) that it didnt sell on ebay, considering what it went for yesterday.  whew.gif

This WC for The Scarlet Empress went for $956.00 yesterday. The imagery of Dietrich is really nice but the re-created lower section (starting about 1/4" into the word "Scarlet" and down to the bottom edge), most noticeably with von Sternberg's name and the Paramount logo, on the lower left corner, are not up to snuff and rather crudely done, upon close examination (imho).

it is very obvious - Heritage is the best venue for such sales. They doubled the asking price of the owner, who will get at least $320k for his poster, unless he worked some other deal that HA would get a lower percentage of the take.

who cares if Heritage gets 20% and the BP if they can do this?

there's no 'apples and oranges' here. There's apples, oranges....... and Heritage

not convinced yet?

I sold a number of items in the auction and the results?

they sold 2 lobby cards I had priced at $100 each for $380 hammer. I get 285, more than my 200 price and I offer discounts

they sold an item for $190 hammer that I had priced at $125

they sold an item for $240 hammer I had priced at $149 on my website

a title card for $525 hammer than I had priced at $375

apples and oranges nothing.. This is pure gold as far as I'm concerned

that's why the price was so low. I can't imagine how well they would have done with that one sheet. I think it would have gotten at least to the same $107k that Supernatural and Frankenstein got

Heritage for the win!

Certainly makes you if the owner of the Scarlet Empress 1-sheet left a lot of money on the table by consigning it to Bruce.
When I first saw the image of the poster I was convinced that it was at least a $40-50K item (it's much more attractive and as important as Morocco), and I still am.

lol - guess we had the same thought. One could argue that the condition of Frankenstein kept the price down and maybe some prefer the Supernatural image (I personally think the Empress is better), but no one could argue that it's not a better image than The Lady Eve or The Thin Man.

My thinking exactly, Rich. Im sure anyone that looked at the supersize image saw the same inferior restoration on this piece.  8)
