It does perfect sense Jeff.
It's still marked as not available at the site (sold? still on restoration? abducted? who knows...)

Diabolical Pact (Filmica Vergara S.A., 1969); Mexican OS:

What is interesting is that the "borrowed" Mr. Hyde image on the poster was actually based on a makeup Dick Smith created and demonstrated how to apply, in his 1965 Warren published magazine, "Do It Yourself Monster Makeup Handbook." A rendered version of the makeup was created for the cover art of the magazine. I had (and still do have) this magazine, and, as a kid attempted many of Smith's designs; some were more difficult to do, have to say, including Hyde.  ;)

Caspar David Friedrich, born September 5, 1774 – May 7, 1840. One of my most beloved artists a German Romantic landscape painter.

Wanderer above the Sea of Fog (1818).  Inspired so many posters. But he was the first. The one and only painter and painting:

Way Down East (United Artists, 1920). One Sheet (28" X 41.25").

and another example

Caspar David Friedrich (PART II). Yes, I do have a soft spot for this artist

The Abbey in the Oakwood 1809/10

Those are Friedrich's trees and gothic look

The Cross Beside The Baltic (1815)

That's all.....I have to say....Caspar David Friedrich 4EVER

The art isn't exactly the same but it's pretty darn similar.  Are there any other images like that?

Galactic Gigolo (1987)

Earth Girls are Easy (1989)

I suffered through both of those films.
Earth Girls Are Easy was easier than Galactic Gigolo.

Question: Could I post here examples of posters that have stolen their art from artist in the ''classical sense''  like I did in my Casper Fredrich post?. Or that would not fit in this thread. I won't post if these do not really fit the bill in this thread....

Oh wow, thanks, I admit that's an old pic, I've put on some weight since then, sadly, but still... Pretty good if I do say so myself :p

There is a big difference between artistic inspiration and downright theft.
So, choose your picks wisely.

Muahahahahahaha....

Oh dear..am I going to be roasted?  Well, let's say that some posters clearly are a Homage (stolen art with good heart)

So, I will start with the BASIC and Obvious...

ROCKY SUBWAY STYLE

DAVID

ET

HANDS OF GOD OR CREATION OF MAN

All posters inspired by Michelangelo Buenarroti. Who else. And who can blame them...

THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT US OS

CHRIST OF ST JOHN OF THE CROSS BY SALVADOR DALI..and Rosa's one of her all time favourite paintings

PREMONITION

Woman And Child In Field With Movie Star BY SALVADOR DALI

I know that DALI has been such an inspiration, but those two are my fav pieces and posters.

AND DOES IT LOOK FAMILIAR?

THE GOOD GERMAN

THAT FILM AND US INSERT

I will post more later....ENOUGH NOW.....

Fantastic parallels, Rosa.  :D

Especially when looking at Rocky/David and The Good German and Casblanca

All fine examples of "stolen" or poster art inspired by earlier works or artists.

So, David's current MONSTROUS auction got me bumping this thread.

Giant From the Unknown (1958) and Albert Kallis art from 1957's Voodoo Woman.

Something to suggest this 1969 Saint film was released in Turkey after the 1974 Bond film.
