Jeff it is hard to post too many pictures of Egyptian posters without getting into Gasour's work, because he almost completely dominates the field most years 1940-1980.  I've already posted several of them, which I'm sure you'll be able to find. I'll be posting one of his later designs (1990) next time, which will be either late today or early tomorrow.

John

I will, for sure, go back and look thru your thread again, John.  :)

i know this isnt really "stolen" as such, but wondered if any one would know why 2 posters for the same movie and would use almost identical art by different artists for the same campaign?
to be honest until i looked really closely i thought it was the same art. but it isnt?
how odd?

Good eye, HC.  I was watching that one at eMovie featuring Jimi.  It's rad.  The 1990 guy's version (theft) pales in comparison.

More heavy "inspiration."

1992 Russian poster for Hellraiser:

Bloody hell.

Amazing spot fella.

You do seem to have a handle on the wider (I was going to say 'foreign' element, but... bearing in mind it is the World wide web...) non-English language poster scene.

Would Never have seen that.  Fascinating.  And highlighting the scurrilous nature of art theft...

Splendid.

A little more "borrowing" going on, this time for Frankenstein

By Boris Grinsson, described as a possible 1950s French RR

But then this site describes the poster as a 1950s German RR: (IF it is from the 50's too, then which was done first? Grinsson's or this piece?)  hmmm.gif

The lady is back....  ;D

Pieces, from 1982:

She's "borrowed" (but with an added bathing suit) from the French 1P (M. Landi art) for Dracula A.D 72 (1972):

Saw this over the weekend, trying to figure out which movies all the elements are from, two are obvious, not sure about the others.
Evil Dead 2 Turkish?

Nice Turkish poster there, Mike.

Gotta love the literal art taken from Fright Night and those 3 fingered hands remind me of the imagery from Amityville 3D

The eyes look similar to those used on other Evil Dead 2 posters..those shown in the skull.

"Heavily influenced" would be the better term for this WC for The Long Wait.... I see shades of Gone with the Wind.

Were he still alive today, I wonder what Norman Rockwell would think of this "heavily influenced" poster.

Would he be honored? Amused? Flattered? Or thinking how unoriginal? Would he give it a  thumbsup.gif ? Or a  uhno ?
