Simon, yes I'm still alive & kicking but spare time is a thing of the past
.
T - glad I could help. 2001 is a great poster.
Old Dark House - lucky to find out about this. Bored at work & randomly looked at Graham's website. Saw the images, sent him a message & he hooked me up with Eureka. Eureka are pretty good at designing posters for their re-releases & quite happy to sell them to the general public at a reasonable price. Just wish Park Circus, Studiocanal etc would follow suit. I think there are only a few independent distributors who do.
Re-release quads - I think everyone is spot on. I find they seem to spend more time designing a half decent poster to catch the imagination of people who haven't watched the film/remind those that have what a great film it is.
I also like the way they create a series of films/posters for a particular actor/actress/genre. Joan Crawford & Hitchcock are next up this year. I love to go to my local independent cinema , sit on a couch & drink beer/wine & watch an old film on the big screen.
Niche market - I know of about 5 collectors of re-releases who I do battle with on eBay. There's Jon(posterart) here on the forum who collects them as well as a few other members.
I've mentioned it before but because they are limited releases they are v.hard to get hold of unless you know someone. Sometimes only showing at less than 25 cinema in the UK. Typically they get 2 posters. One is displayed. Then you are in a battle with cinema staff, cinema-goers, local collectors, the bin & if it ever shows on eBay......!
Value wise - as with everything it depends on how much you need/want it! There are a few that go for silly money but usually £20-50 should suffice. I think the missus would be quite happy to see them all go!
