Cinevent in Ohio

Is this considered the main movie memorabilia event? Sports collecting has the "National" which is held once a year and travels across the country to varies cities year after year. Is Cinevent on the same level but for movie stuff?

Edit: The website says, "Dealers fill over 170 tables". Well, it doesn't appear to be nearly as large as the National, but maybe it's still considered the "main event" each year?

there is no such thing as "the National" in movie posters (or in most hobbies)

This is probably the largest movie & movie memorabilia related event in the US

Thanks for the info!

Does Cinevent have posters from all years or only vintage pieces?

It is amazing to think that anyone would believe the poster hobby which numbers somewhere in the 10,000 active collectors range could host a show anything like The National when sports memorabilia collectors number in the 100s of thousands if not more.

10,000 sounds about right but I wonder why so few of them make it to these forums.

1) most don't know about these forums
2) most don't have time to mess with these forums
3) most don't want to be harrassed on these forum
4) there are assholes like Carson on these forums

I LOVE reading Science Fiction, have thousands of books, consider myself a SF nerd, but don't post or read SF forums, have no interest.
Also reggae music,
For these two, I read it, thats enough and I listen to it, thats enough.

But my other loves.
HORROR/EXPLOITATION/ETC FILMS - I write and read forums.
Vegetarian/Vegan cooking/food - I write and read.
Posters of course.

My 3 suggestions for the hobby to piggie back on for a convention/show.

1) Comic con in San Diego, hollywood is attached at the hip to this thing already
2) Showest in Vegas, of course the studios seeing "their stuff" being sold might not be good.
3) Sundance..

I'm sorry, but the event of the year in Ohio... I would rather keep my $500 for e-bidding/purchases. Vegas/California/Florida hell yes, Upper midwest, gonna take a pass.

Dale

I already did the "Film Festival" thing
it produces no $$$

SDCC is leaving SD. either going to Anaheim or coming here to Vegas

but you know what.. probably the worst place financially for movie poster conventions is LA. I used to do Ray Court's show 4x a year and it was hardly ever worth it. I do way better at Cinevent

Rich,

The problem is there are not a lot of people in the marginal pocket book or younger collecting crowd that are going to board a plane to go to Ohio for this thing. It is not an event, it is a bunch of good ol' boy collectors that trade paper among themselves, locals, collectors with deep pockets, or the guy who has been going since prior to the internet thing was created. Why go to the middle of no where with nothing else to do and spend that kind of money; you are basically wasting what you could have spent on a nice piece. Granted it is nice to see stuff hands on, but this day an age why spend the money on the travel.

having been to many Coin Fairs/conventions (for work), all the best deals there go on behind the scenes, dealer to dealer.
So whether or not the average joe collector turns up or not probably makes little difference to many dealers.

I assume its similar in the poster world.

This is very true at comic conventions, too.  Most collections that dealers bring to cons get picked through before the general public has a chance to see them.  Have seen this many times helping dealer friends set up.  At best, those not able to get a dealers pass get to sift through some decent books, but usually it just crumbs.  I will say that, for me, the draw of going to cons is to put meet fellow collectors and dealers.  Always fun to put a face to a name
