Title: September 2015
Post by: DekeThornton on September 01, 2015, 02:22:34 AM
Not long after missing out on the Doña Diabla several months ago at EMP, I came across one on eBay for a bargain price. It's funny how the timing worked out since I had had my eye out for one of these for a few years. The one I found on eBay was in fairly rough shape, but it looks nice now after Dario worked his magic:

I also found "Las Locuras de Tin Tan" which had been on my want list for quite a while.

I really like Maria Felix, she was both talented and beautiful. A tough woman. The poster is gorgeous. Congrats.

Bravo!  Nice pieces. I'm still hesitant to go the linen route myself, but I do see the wonders of restoration that can be done. They are stunning.

Love the Mexican posters.  Deke did Mario do the linen backing for you?  Also love the FUEGO poster!

This one just arrived and I immediately framed it.  I've wanted it for years. It's my favorite Hammer film and possibly my favorite Belgian poster.  I think the Hammer Belgian posters are some of the best out there.

Beautiful, Mike. Love the frame, too.

And the Belgian art so often is SO on the mark.. and the compositions and color are outstanding. This is a beauty and Ive always admired this imagery, too.

Wow that Japanese NIGHTMARE poster is insane, nice pickup!  CRITTERS looks creepy, I've never seen it...is it any good?

Sorry I didn't include these in the first post, they were still at the frame shop.  I bought all 3 of the posters the same day last month.  I figured I would unpack all 3 and frame 'em up.

Those are cool, Jeff.

The "do you know me?" line on the Critters poster is interesting.  Do you know if that was in the movie or just the poster?

Thanks, Brandon and Mike.

Great other 2 posters there to complete the Hammer trio, Mike.  thumbsup.gif

Brandon, i dont know if that tag line is from the movie or not, or maybe just a line from the film. And I dont recall seeing it on any of the US posters either. So maybe only the Japanese used it? It caught my eye, too, when i first saw it.

I haven't seen either movie.  In fact I have only seen a handful of Mexican movies. The art is the main attraction for me with the Mexican posters. Though Doña Diabla is actually supposed to be a good film (I will get around to watching it soon).

Only 4 of them, Rosa.  I wasn't going to buy anything and then some popped up that I couldn't pass on, like Tirez Sur le Pianiste.  I had been looking for a mint folded copy for ever and found one for $550.  I had to get it.  It helped that I spent 10 days somewhere without internet.

As always some great pieces everyone!

Have not been posting for a while due to life. These are actually a few of the buys from last month but the first one in particular needs to be posted.

I have been for a while trying to put together a set of the full size one sheet Empire Strikes Back Advances. There are three that I am aware of that are full one sheets US, Spain and Italy. I located a decent Italian copy but the owner would not ship to the US. I naturally reached out to one of this sites more wonderful members in my opinion, Rosa, for assistance getting it here. She put up with the seller and her natural worry that it would survive the trip and helped me out big time, she even paid for the poster in advance for me. I am thinking great, now just need to find the Spanish and I am done, no clue anything is up. Time goes buy and the poster finally arrives. I reach out to Rosa and let he know it survived in good shape and asked her what I owe her for everything, keep in mind she has been ducking my asking what I owe for weeks which drives me nuts because I hate owing people money. Her response, she tells me nothing and says it is an early WEDDING GIFT!!! I naturally am stunned with both the lengths she went to to get the poster to me but then to find out she has sent it as a GIFT!

Needless to say I am publicly trying to say thank you to a wonderful woman and a true credit to any hobby lucky enough the have her!

Without further ado, Empire Strikes Back Italian advance one sheet, sorry for the horrible pictures.

Next a poster I have been looking for for a while, the Italian 2f for 1956's Rodan. It has the German snipe but I will live with it happily, love this poster.

Birds Insert, gel backed

A rare lobby card buy for me, Flying Down to Rio also gel backed

It has been a pretty good month for me. I have picked up a lot of stuff. Here are a few highlights. I wanted to wait until I received them, so I will only share a few. I will share some low quality camera phone pics later if you like.....anyhow they are all rolled/unfolded unless noted as folded.

This is my favorite Candy film, next to Brewster's Millions. Gotta love some good 80's comedy.

My version is folded, it was actually a free poster!

Some more good stuff from the 80's.

Bill Fucking Murray...

This one was pretty hard for me to find. I picked up a daybill from Ari(stuck in customs?), then a few days later found it in a OS. Perhaps not valuable or highly sought after, but I had to have it for the set. I originally thought there were 4 versions, but I can't confirm if the bridge version actually exists. If you know, or perhaps have one please let me know!

From a late master of Horror, Wes Craven. I love this poster. I purchased a B2 in desperation early on when I couldn't find a OS. Anybody need a Scream B2?

I would say I have been after this one for a while, but some of you folks chase stuff for years. I barley have a year collecting. Large Polish E.T. rolled is a welcomed addition to my E.T. pile.

Sorry T, borrowed your image. It was the only one I could find online. The one I have is full folded. I will do my best to take a good picture of it and repost it later.

I had this arrive recently. A Japanese poster, that originally came in 2 sections, and measures 21x44 inches (the lower section measures 14.75 x 21 inches), so it seems a more oddball size poster.

With the help of the seller, he was able to interpret the title of this (what looks to be a documentary-propaganda kind of film). He said the title (large, red) says: Germany Was Defeated in This Way

The smaller writing on the left top side is the name of the Japanese supervisor who handled the JP version of this film.

The writing on the right side, in blue, says: "Look! This film is controversial work of Wehrmacht which inveigled our Japanese army into the World War II. Its running had been stopped due to the cruelty shown, but finally is to be opened to the public now."

I do not know the year of this piece, but Im guessing the late 1950s? I am still trying to determine who the distributor was, as the company logo is on the lower right corner. Aside from the image of Hitler, and the Japanese soldier in the upper right, are images of Pearl Harbor, US soldiers and Red Cross men. and soldiers storming a beach. I also really like that the entire piece is created art, rather than any photo images.

Thanks to Armin, too, for some info and insight into this piece, also. thumbup  He said it could have been created for theaters in more outlying areas, away from major cities.

Fascinating piece.  I might think it would be more post-war, '45 to '50ish when ol' Doug MacArthur was running the show there.  Trying to set a good example and all.

Can't go wrong though with a poster that has both loads of kanji and Shicklgruber on it.  Very unusual.

And, no I havent tried a full search via his name, Ted (though i did check on imdb, a few weeks ago and didnt find his name there).

GREAT idea, tho! I will give it a go.

More to come, if I can track him down.

Hi Jeff, yes interesting pickup, well done! I tried to also find info on the poster but not much luck. I started with the distributor logo you mention. the 映 text in the Jewish looking symbol seems to translate to "film". Not much else to report at this stage! Image search of the poster seemed fruitless.

Thanks for looking into it, too, Steve.  thumbsup.gif

The calligraphy, too, is the first word (Ei 映) used when one is also talking about the Eirin mark placed on all JP posters from 1962 onward:

(http://www.learnaboutmovieposters.com/newsite/INDEX/COUNTRIES/Japan/Eirin3.jpeg)* image courtesy of LAMP

Armin also told me that there were/are many smaller film distributors in Japan, and (tho he could also not ID the company logo), thought it likely was from one of these smaller distribution companies. That the logo also comprises a black and white 6 pointed star, i dont think, has any Jewish tie.

Recently, I won two of Big Mike's Italianos at emovieposter.
While I wanted his KONG, I had to settle for posters in my price range and these two personal favorites fit the bill quite nicely.
Coincidentally, they are both illustrated by Sandro Cecchini.

This one for Hardware (1990) is cool.  Sounds like an interesting flick.  From IMDB: In a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a group of humans struggle to survive when a disassembled android rebuilds itself and sets out to complete its mission: destroying human beings.

Recently, I won two of Big Mike's Italianos at emovieposter.
While I wanted his KONG, I had to settle for posters in my price range and these two personal favorites fit the bill quite nicely.
Coincidentally, they are both illustrated by Sandro Cecchini.

Great stuff all round.

As way of coincidence I got this on the day Wes Craven sadly passed away. I much prefer the original but will never be able to afford one so this will have to do. It's not what I normally collect, but having a soft spot for these films I have a few quads and video posters already so happy to add this one!

In my opinion it is a fantastic movie.  Wilder at his best and Milland is great.  But as you mentioned, there is nothing light about the subject matter.

It was added to the National Film Registry in 2011 and way back in 1945 when it was released won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor & Best Screenplay

Had this arrive this afternoon.

A German A0 size (33x46 inches) OS for The Rocketeer (1991). This is an image I always have liked, with it having such a vintage, art deco feel, yet it being from the early 90's. It's one of the modern posters that had always caught my eye.

Thanks, guys.

Vick, this literally was something I tripped across a week ago online. I wasnt looking for it, specifically, and I just happened to come across it. I didnt even know this was produced in this size, in Germany. In other words, i knew and liked this image, that's about it.

But it always seemed a little too pricey, (the US stuff, anyhow), for this particular style (for me, anyhow).

I read the descrip, verified with the seller that it was the more uncommon A0 size (tho i just asked him to re-confirm the dimensions he gave) and I decided to go for it. Glad I did. It is totally unused and is folded as it came from the printer.

Another that arrived yesterday afternoon, when I got home. It's the Argentinean OS for the 1940 British film titled An Englishman's Home and released in the US in June 1940, with the title Mad Men of Europe. The artwork here is the same design as that used on the US OS, but was beautifully re-drawn by the Arg. artists. I'm always in awe of stone litho posters like this, that are literally color from top to bottom, realizing how much work would go into creating each plate for the different colored inks.

The film stars Edmund Gwenn, Mary Maguire and Paul Henreid. What caught my eye on this is that Henreid is credited as Paul Von Hernreid. This isn't a typo; he is listed this way on other film sites such as imdb. A little side note is that the original 1909 play was written by Guy Du Maurier, uncle of writer Daphne Du Maurier.

Thanks again to John for this one!  notworthy.gif

And there is that mystery, Omega/W mark again, too, Matias.   dontknow.gif

When you say "bulk delivery," do you mean these all came shipped at the same time? Or were they all included in a single bulk lot that you bought?

That original artwork is beautiful.  Great image of the woman!  Also that big delivery of posters is also great.  I've always wanted to get a SHOGUN ASSASSIN poster, they are very cool.

This one took almost 5 years to find.  As always they show up when you least expect them.  It goes to show Thai poster collecting really didn't take off until after the year 2000 because of international demand from ebay exposure and the internet.  By then many of the posters had already been destroyed.  It pains me to know how many were trashed along with their respective artwork.  For distributors it was just another week at the theater.  There's a great story about a distributor who brought thousands of Thai movie posters to the Thai film archive some time back.  The archive didn't have any room for them at the time, so the distributor just threw them in the trash.

Congrats on that pickup, Mike.

What is cool and unique about the Thai poster, is that this art was redrawn. Seems like the majority of other countries all used Struzan's art. I've always wondered if that was a contractual "rule" demanded by the studio and distributor?

In any case, your poster is awesome. The colors just POP!

Yes this is the only time the image was redrawn.  Parts 2 and 3 used the original art.  I'm sure in some cases it was contractual, but also it's a lot cheaper to use the supplied artwork than to pay an artist to redraw it is my guess.

Indeed that Marty isn't the one we know and love  ;)

Yes, that Marty is definitely off.  It's interesting that Tongdee can really nail a face if he has the time to.  Sometimes these posters were painted in only a day or two and that's usually when the features are not as good as they could be.  Tongdee is certainly capable but didn't always have the time.

Zowie! I don't even look at this post for a mere 24 hours or so and when I do, I expect to find nothing new---that you are all a bunch of slackers. Instead, yowza! I find a plethora of paper perfection!

Golly Paul---original concept art? Wow! What a concept! GREAT idea and great piece. But that has me asking the question, where doth all of the original poster art go-eth? How cool would it be to own some? Wow!

Gargoyle67--zoinkers!  Nice spread. I have a lot of those but looking at your posters reminds me of WHY I bought them. The RAIDERS re-release is so kick ass (way better than the original release). I've always been partial to the cool-i-o FLASH GORDON one sheet. I even really love the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA poster that screams out it is in SENSURROUND (one of only 4 movies that ever was).

MWright, what can I say?  You've broken me. Because of you, the very next chance I have so spending money (which admittedly may be months way), I am going to lose my Thai virginity, dammit. Those posters are gorgeous!

Jeff--Damn you! I (and apparently the rest of the world) have been after an ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK one sheet forever. And you sashay on in here with not only the one sheet, but the advance as well. Have you no shame? (Bravo, by the way...)

Good job all  the way around.

I am still waiting on a few of these to show up, but they are on their way. This is a very mixed group. The only one that is folded is Weird Science. The Czech Romancing the Stone was simply because I like the art a lot.  It reminds me of the Polish Crocodile Dundee 2 I regret passing on...I will find it again sometime.

Nice choices!

Everyone should have that Gremlins poster.
The John Alvin artwork is iconic.

You should repost a larger image in the Alvin thread http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/topic,9951.0.html (http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/topic,9951.0.html)

Congratulations Paul, the concept piece is a fantastic addition. I'm always fascinated by these pieces and to have an original must be very satisfying.

Jeff, you are having a cracking month. As someone who collects in a very small area it's great to see a collector with much broader horizons.

I thought the BTTF was for a remake but very nice addition to a great collection.

I wasn't going to post these, but they're pretty imaginative, at least as far as modern posters go, and they only cost me $20 (tip to my wilding guy.)

All 48x70in.

Fair enough. But my comment was an "inner joke" to Chris because of the earlier use of the word " cute"  in reference to something he mentioned once about the cute word. Clearly lost in translation. It was nothing to do with his views about your posters.

And yes. Agree. We all have a  #  taste. Personally I rather say nothing about the poster if I dont like it because I see no need to. None of my business what people buy and collect. I have however voiced my views in the past about certain posters that seem to celebrate violence against women which yes,  I do find both offensive and distasteful. But that is separate issue altogether.

If I don't like something (or don't care for something,) I'm like Rosa, I don't say anything.  I tried to voice my opinion in the past and found myself in the middle of a storm.  So we applaud if we like something and stay mute if we don't... except for Chris, of course.  It's funny, though.  If you're in a museum and see something you don't like, you say it.  But for some reason, collectors get very touchy about what they collect, like if they were personally being criticized.  I'd like to voice my opinion more often, but I'd also like the collector to know that it has nothing to do with them.  It is an opinion, and like my Grandmother used to say, opinions are like assholes, everybody has one and most of them stink.  At the end of the day, they're just posters, who cares if someone doesn't like yours.

Well said, T.   clap clap

And i think many are this way, here.. stating what they think (if it is one that they also like) or remain silent if it aint their cuppa tea.

Tho it is nice to see when collectors applaud a fellow member's recent pickup of something, especially if it has been on that person's 'want list' for a while. That kind of commentary can make people feel good about what they have gotten and also make them feel (in some cases) like they want to show it here, rather than not post the poster or anything about it, at all.

Faustina (1957), first release Mexican OS.

The film is a Spanish production (a comedy), with Maria Felix, Fernando Rey and Juan de Landa, who plays Mephistopheles.

The devil and butterfly art on the poster almost remind me of Pablo Picasso's style, in some ways.

Being the first Mexican poster I acquired, the paper has an interesting texture too; it feels much more like heavier newsprint and different than any other country's paper I have been able to handle.

All T's posters speak to me as they all have sexy women in them. Good pickings there T.

Jeff That Felix is beautiful. I can see the "Picassoish" style in it.

T Dark Passage and The Damned Don't Cry are great. I also like that you give mention of artists.

It's very important to me.  If you check my collection online, you will see that I always try to put the name of the artist when/if I can find it, especially for French, Italian and Eastern European posters.

I think it's great to list the artist, too, regardless of country, if the artist is, or can be found out. As an example, there are so many on EMP's database, and each one asks that if anyone knows the artist, to let them know, so they can update. Ive done this a few times, even for artists that maybe only did a couple pieces, if i happened to come across the name on some other site. It just helps with the overall info about the piece and learning about the artist behind that poster.

@ Gingerman- thanks. In reading a bit about Felix, she was friends with Picasso, and when i learned that this film was a Spanish production, I thought that maybe Picasso could have been asked to quickly add his touch to that poster (or got permission to use something he had created prior, art-wise, on the poster).

So far, tho, nothing to verify that. The search continues.

And Belgians are amazing. Their spot on art of actors is unsurpassed, many times.  notworthy.gif

Hello, I'm on the train ride home after being up north for a wedding and just now peeking in to see what's new...and there's a bumper crop of newness!  Zowie!

Jeff- FAUSTINA, huh?  A female version of Faust...makes me interested in seeing the film. BNice poster and, Picasso or not, i do dig the devil doodle on the poster. .

Mista T--Wow! What a grand haul. I particularly like the Bogart & Bacall, but also really like the Raquel Welch (yowzer!). My fave, i think, is the GIRL ON A MOTORCYCLE. Delon and Faithful are really captured in the moment. Nice.

Tob---Very nice batch as well. I am especially enamored with the DOLLARS trilogy poster.

Awesome finds all...

I am slowly, very slowly warming up to Belgians.  A year ago, I had 2, now I have 80.  I started naturally by trying to complete some of my collections until I eventually branched out and started collecting other things like The Girl on a Motorcycle.  I'm not completely there yet, but almost.

Finally got the latest onto the website so let's be done with this modern crap.

Here's a glass slide from 1919's Bolshevism on Trial:

Cheers for finally adding a Lon Chaney to the collection, jeers for the dipshit collector who put an ink stamp on the verso which bled through.  From 1926, Tod Browning's The Road to Mandalay:

MaGG, I'm just keeping the slides wrapped in the lobby card bin for now.  Definitely want to figure out a way to display them though.

Naturally the bleedthrough is right above Lon's head, you can kind of see it on the lo-fi photo.  An inch down and it would have disappeared.  :(

I've dreamed of owning this poster for a long time, ever since I saw it on APF several years ago in fact. I finally tracked an original 2-sheet down and added it to my site (http://www.filmonpaper.com/posters/apocalypse-now-thailand/) today. I've included 70 photos so you can really get a look at all the details of Tongdee's phenomenal artwork. I used Photoshop to try and match the two sides together for the main photo but it's not the easiest. In a recent issue of Dark Side magazine there was a picture of the artist alongside Neil Pettigrew, a UK collector of Thai posters who some of you may know. It shows that Tongdee originally painted the poster on two canvases so this means joining the two sides together perfectly was always going to be impossible!

This is one of those pieces of art that I find new detail in every time I look at it and love Tongdee's use of colour.

Beautiful, Ed!! WOW!!

Can i ask.. is the profile image of Martin Sheen a partially colorized and saturated photo? While the rest of the piece is all created art, his image, or rather the front half of his face (at least appears, in some ways) to be photographic, with added coloring and layering of texture and green.

Congrats.. I think this is a killer poster!!

As for the poster...as I said earlier elsewhere, I am now totally sold on Thai posters---They are just stunning, for the most part! Sad to see that many of the newer posters seem to be following the bland new trend of using Photoshop. UGH!  But those older than 15 years or so have some amazing art. ladeda, I'd actually like to see the French and German versions that Walbrook made before the US version (Michel Strogoff in 1935 (French) and Der Kurier des Zaren 1936-German), where he played the same character.

Have you ever come across, or seen, either of these earlier film adaptations?

And amazing that he was asked to play the same role, 3 times, for 3 different country's version of the film.

I've seen Der Kurier des Zaren. It's pretty routine but it is interesting to see the Reich's attempt of a bombastic Hollywood-esque adventure.

Walbrook was such a unique performer. Always dashing, always a mystery.

I've seen Der Kurier des Zaren. It's pretty routine but it is interesting to see the Reich's attempt of a bombastic Hollywood-esque adventure.

Walbrook was such a unique performer. Always dashing, always a mystery.

Thanks, ladeda.

I will try and find the German version. And yes.. Walbrook was a unique and mysterious character, that's for sure.

Wow I haven't looked at this thread in a few days and there is so much nice stuff added.

Paul I like the Quads, too bad I only own 1 single quad.....

Jeff I am seeing a gunslinger theme this month. I like them. Not much of a western fan myself, they do however remind me of my fathers love for westerns. I actually have a few westerns I have never shared here, with some of his favorite actors/actresses.....

For me I picked this up a few days ago.

Something about this art I really like.

Nice snag there, Chris.

I'm not really a Western guy, either, but the one that was aslo vampire themed, intrigued me, image wise.. and the other, also because of the artist (Josep Renau), whose style I like. And the fact that it's a stone litho- and I really can appreciate posters that were done in that process.

Krampus is one of the better posters of late, just got some in, its a winner even if the film ends up tanking.

Spectre final, is it just me or does Baron Samedi and Live and Let Die come immediately to mind with that poster shot?

Crimson Peak has had a good poster campaign as well.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Such nice things on here since i last had a chance to comment.

Gingerman: I made note of the beautiful "Apocalypse Now" Thai poster, but your Thai "Silence of the Lambs" also really makes me want to get my hands on some Thai stuff. The Pepsi logo is curious. I've noticed that on several Thai posters while perusing them. Hmm. Anyway, nice find. Same with the Polish "Coming to America".

Jeff: You are just all over this thread lately. Zowie! I really dig the "Miguel Strogoff" poster. Very nice. But as for it being "la sensacion de Hollywood", well, I've never heard of it.  Not that THAT matters, of course. I've not heard of a lot of things. "Tierra de Hombres" is also very nice/colorful. Although it looks NOTHING like the image you were using previously as your avatar, the artwork reminds me of the creature on the poster for "The Cosmic Man" (was that the title?) for some reason. The eyes really DO make the poster for "El Pueblo Fantasma"...cheesy vampires or not. (Actually cheesy vampires are often more fun...). I also really dig the woman especially on the"Ahi Viene Martin Corona" poster...and look at you going so international. Groovy.

Lynaron: i really dig the foreign Harryhausen titles you picked up. The "Clash of the Titans" is especially awesome.

Jedgerley:  Oooooooo... I love, love, LOVE the "X FROM OUTER SPACE" poster.  Stunningly cool. I want one. Wow!

Paul: Your recent ads are amazing. I am especially enamored with "Crimson Peak", "Spectre", "Krampus" (never heard of it--looks cool), and "Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse" (never heard of that--but it looks like my kind of flick. Ha!) Thanks for sharing!

WOW!

GoGo I am also curious about the Pepsi logo on the thai posters. Maybe somebody here could shed some light on that for us. I have found a lot of stuff lately, in my search for some specific Thai and Polish stuff. I have yet to find those specific posters, but that is what makes this collecting fun. Not to mention the thrill when you find what you are looking for. I also beginning to think that the search will be a long time in the making....

Just got a package from Japan. Pee Wee and Beetlejuice have condition issues but there is no Japanese theatrical paper for Pee Wee so I'm happy to have it. I think Beetlejuice is theatrical but I'm not 100% sure. I have a few B2 video posters for Edward Scissorhands but this is my first B1 video so all in all I'm pretty happy.

I keep looking back to this amazing piece of art, and in looking back to the great things that were picked up in August, I came across, once again, Mike's (mwright) post of him showing his Thai APOC NOW poster, in a frame. Seeing it like that and in perspective shows the incredible size of this poster, and it must be incredible to hold and behold, in person. Here's Mike's post, once again, showing his beautiful, framed copy  faint2.gif  thumbsup.gif  (doing it here, since the Aug thread is locked to any more comments).

Congrats again, to both of you gents!:

"Though I've had it for a while, unrolling it and getting it framed is like getting a new poster.  I've never taken a proper picture of it nor have I ever really seen it in it's full splendor.  Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna stare at it for a week."

I think when I got mine from Pea, conversations with a couple of members could only place two as ever being sold...  At that time we were still unaware of the one sheet being a repro...

Since that point, I think two more members picked them up from Pea - and now Ed and Mike...  So five since April 2013 and only two or so before that point for the 2-sheet....  Pea had mentioned another sale before mine so maybe 6...

So this begs another question. Are these Thai treasures rare or rarely released for sale from Thai collectors, or both?
The reason I say this is because I have been in contact with several Thai poster sellers looking for 2 very specific pieces, to which numerous replies have been some thing like....yes I know where they are but they are not for sale....or yes I have them but am not selling them right now.

I am leaning towards rare or few survived the trash pile, and those who do have these gems are not currently selling them.

And then it also begs the question, like we have often asked of posters from other countries. How many total copies of this 2 panel APOC NOW poster were done in Thailand? Probably will never know that answer, but as Mike (mwright) and others have commented- because of Thailand's climate, rainy weather, and high humidity, that have been the death to so many posters there, in general -- AND if this poster was produced in much lesser numbers, due to cost and it being the 2P style, could that all also add it it being on the more scarce list?

You are correct, and it's not just surviving the trash pile, it's the humidity and constant flooding that took out many collections of Thai posters over the years.
