Technically not really a restoration, must a linen backed readying for framing, I can't be bothered posting it all again so if you have Facebook you can view the album/commentary here:

I also posted a wee video showing some of the poster being 'restored' although it is not actually going to be filled/coloured in, I was just being shown how it was done (never seen it done live before).

Cheers. It's not framed as yet, just linenbacked, rolled it...

Great video clip, Dave ( I like the music, too).

Beautiful poster, as well. And seeing these pros at work (in a video) really gives a better sense of how a restoration is done.

Music guess is correct...

...but I worry for Michael and his back on the table.

Ahh the decision to show me how to touch it up was a last minute one, just before he rolled it up, I think he does them on the wall normally something about it being better from a viewing perspective as that is how it is displayed.

Movie Poster Art Gallery, London, UK

Commissioned work: LB and restoration (missing paper and general damage)

Cost: £180

POSTER: The Barefoot Contessa (1954). Argentinian poster. Condition: fair to good.

PROS: It was local, no shipping costs and no hassle. Quick turn around and Tim was a pleasure to deal with, polite and very nice.

CONS: The poster had some pencil and car tire marks and cameback with them, it looks very dirty. I will not bring any other posters back. BUT glad I went and gave it a try. Not one of my favourite Bogart posters so not a great loss, but certainly not happy with the work.  Another poster that goes back to the closet.

UPDATE-MOVIE POSTER ART GALLERY -LONDON

What great guys Tim and Martyn at MPAG are  thumbup. The restoration didnt go as I hoped, but certainly they know how to do business and how to treat their customers.

I went to see them today to discuss the work they did on a couple of my posters, one of which is the Barefoot Contessa as I mentioned in this thread earlier on.

They look at the issues I raised about both posters and offered to either fix the issues or provide free framing for one poster.

Their framing services is excellent, I have used their services in the past so I took them up on their offer.

I was happy with that, and they are indeed nice people to deal with :D

And in case you wonder,  I worked on the Barefoot Contessa poster and I was able to remove the pencil and the tire marks and graffiti myself. And this is how it now looks.

Yes, yes...I know I am not Charlie OR Dario, but hey had to give it a go.. ;)

Well done Rosa, that looks much better.

Did MPA Gallery not fix the problems at the initial time because you didn't want to pay extra for that service or did they say it couldn't be fixed or was there a misunderstanding what you wanted done?

I specifically asked for the graffiti to be removed, and they told me that the poster would look much better though the pencil and tire marks could not be entirely removed because the paper was too delicate. I was very dissapointed with the outcome because I had seen other poster restoration examples with similar markings that were successfully removed.

How did you do it?

Thanks Charlie :) With an artist eraser (2-3 hours, lightly touching the paper)..and watercolour pencils (another 2-3 hours)

And a bottle of Champagne

Does this sound OK to you?

Looks great and it's very satisfying to work on your own posters (so long as the outcome is a positive one - when you take on too much and F up a poster further well that's just   hitself ).

Wow, you downed a bottle of champagne whilst lightly touching Bogie for a few hours... Sounds like special moments...

Thank you guys, I really appreciate your kind words. It doesn't look  perfect, but I think it looks better !

And yes, Steve, giving Bogie a good bath, sharing a bubble was most enjoyable ;)

I've been posting these in my Amateur thread but it just seems like I am bragging on myself...  Not what I am trying to do, but I do get excited about the results and want to share, so maybe here?  Leave that thread for linenbacking experimentation etc...

Here is the Cleo Lobby B&A...
