Tang, did your guy put those ticket stubs into the plastic case for you? A good way to keep them and be able to view them. Looks nice!  thumbsup.gif

A mild curio fell made itself known via a large Dallas based auction house and the sale by a well known Bond collector who had decided to point his life in another direction.  The Lafayette Theatre in Suffern, New York State is a 1923, one screen affair with a Wurlitzer and enough architectural heritage to save it from the wrecking ball and the advance of modernity.  Indeed, in 2002, the Galaxy Theatre Corporation agreed a long term lease and, further to investment, refurbished it to its pre war luxurious styles through to adding an ornate chandelier in 2003.  As well as showing first releases, the Lafayette also presents alternative programming and festival weekends.  All of which brings us neatly back to the above mentioned curio; namely a set of 12 lobby cards advertising one to Spend a Weekend with James Bond by seeing, From Russia with Love, OHMSS, The Spy who Loved Me, The Living Daylights, GoldenEye, Casino Royale.

The question of how official they are deemed to be should probably be tackled first.  These have been designed and printed for a specific theatre for a one-off festival.  There appears to be no support or sponsorship for the event by MGM or Eon other than what is implied by the use of copyright images, logos and title fonts.  That said, they were created to advertise and market the release of these films for an otherwise well known and respected cinema that boasts its own Wiki page, so one can later deliberate the definition of the word ‘official’.

A set of 12, two cards devoted to each film, the design and production values are perhaps understandably basic.  In the bottom white border, each of the film titles utilize the font and logo of the time, a border which also boasts home to a rather lonely and forlorn gun barrel logo and an equally friendless Walter PPK silhouette that has an image of the Bond actor in question squeezed into the hand grip.  The UA logo may offer some clue as to the release date of this festival which might be only just after the release of GoldenEye.  The only other items of note are a random numbering system whereby From Russia with Love Card 1 does not automatically denote Card 2 is also showcasing Russia.  Rather it is OHMSS.  In fact, none of the adjacent numbers show the same film.  Let us believe the designer was aiming for the scattered approach.  And the last point being that, again, a deleted scene is used for Casino Royale which has Bond and femme frolicking around in the waves.

I did send a mail to the Lafayette asking for more information as to what this was all about but so far nothing.

Any info would be great.  Cheers.

I've been through Suffern, but not in a while.
I will look up the Lafayette next time I'm through there and snag some pics?

Yesterday on the Heritage auction, I won a Spy who Love Me 1 Sheet.

No big deal, one might say but this is the stupidly rare version with the blocked capital blue lettering at the top as opposed to the more usual red emphasis on just four words.

As to how rare, in emp's history, they have yet to sell one and indeed I only knew of its existence from Adam's site.  So it was with heart in mouth that I was prepared for an ultimate showdown that would take this poster into four figures.  But no, $170+bp saw it top out.

Does that sound right, does it astonish?

Thanks fella.

I was aware one was going to pop up there as a friend of Nick(?) Firuta, who was selling his massive Bond collection at Heritage, had told me he had one.  The lion's share of the fancy items went before Xmas.  The rest is popping up in dribs and drabs.

Not sure how much is left now.

I know he also sold his Fleming 1sts on Heritage and he made a fortune.

Got this Imax bus shelter for Spectre.  Nothing out of this world, but it's kinda cool, and I don't think it has been posted yet.

Amazing what a Bond bathing suit (D Craig) sold for, at auction, back in 2012:  faint2.gif

But the proceeds went to a good cause.  thumbsup.gif

Was going to pop this in the June thread but as it has already been discussed in the Post Auction thread, I figured I would spice up the Bond thread some.

Adam, has a Spy Calendar quad on his site.  I think mention has been made of a Moonraker quad too?

Nice pickup, Simon.

Is the circled 6, in red, part of the original printing? Or was that added by a previous owner, sometime later?

Ah, that is covered in the Post Auction thread.

It is a snipe that was presumably added to daily until the Day arrived.  I am guessing it started at 9 days, and snipes for 8, 7 and 6 were added.

Presumably, if used until the end, it would have gone to 1 day.

I have asked for some more info from the seller...

Thanks, Simon. I did see this mentioned in the other thread, and thought the snipe was the large, red circle, that reads "6 DAYS"

I was referring to the circled date of April 6th, down below, in the calendar section. It looks like it was done with a sharpie or other kind of thicker tipped red marker?
