In this example the signature, which is not contemporary to the piece, is too prominent and distracts from the beautiful image. I can understand the thrill of meeting Mary Astor and having her sign it but the signature could have been better placed.

Actually, I was impressed at how clever Astor (then 75 years old) was to autograph her 'white shoulders,' underscoring the film's title.
And, while the sig might be 'contemporary,' it added something special to this poster's history. I'd bet the bank that this was the first poster for this film that she'd seen (much less handled) since she starred in it 50 years earlier.
And
then she got to autograph it for a fan at the ripe old age of 75.
What a head rush she must have experienced at the time it was brought to her.
