Snapframes, Backing Boards and Other Questions
« on: January 31, 2015, 03:15:16 PM »
I'm very new to collecting film posters and getting the right frame seems more difficult than getting the original posters themselves!

I've looked at building my own frame, but sourcing the materials for a single frame is proving very expensive, if I needed to build 10 frames, it would make sense.

I'm looking at snap frames like the following...

http://www.snap-frames.com/products/movie-snap-frames

http://snapframeswarehouse.co.uk/27-41-Movie-Snap-Poster-Frame-Black-Silver-Snap-Black-25mm-Frame

...but have a few questions, do I any sort of barrier board to go behind the poster? Both come with vaguely described plastic screens, I'll have to get in contact with them for specific answers as to whether its plexi-glass, UV protected etc but what is the general consensus on plexi-glass or perspex screens touching the poster? I've seen some people say its fine, others say they should stay separate constantly.

I've also looked at sites like...

http://www.hollywoodposterframes.com/
http://www.spotlightdisplays.com/

...but I live in the UK so the shipping costs are difficult to say the least.

Would appreciate any help and advice. I don't want a fancy-looking frame, I just want something that will protect an original film poster without paying over the odds.

Cheers for taking a look, need 27"x41", lots of places do 27x40 or 30x40, but not many places do 27x41, its a real pain.

heres a direct link to 27x41 and I was surprised at the low price. its a start.  Not sure of the UV protection it offers but you can always give them a ring for more info

Thanks, they're all in the right sort of price range, just to get replies back from them about the plastic screens and what they're made out of exactly.

Lucky guess. ?   he he he  nah I googled your email address to see if you had any poster pictures floating around on the internet.  I removed your name.  You can hide your email in your profile if you want.

I'm flattered and slightly scared :P

I don't technically own any posters at the moment, one is currently making its way across the atlantic.

Hey RO,

Did this poster make it safely to you? Can I ask what title it was for?  prayer.gif

Please call me Rough.

I've been meaning to take some pics of my posters I've got up (three, all the space I have), I'll put them in the latest acquisitions thread in the next few days.
