The Casablanca 6 sheet says ("Casablanca) without the right " symbol with Heritage saying it was not printed. I don't get it how that could happen

There is already one bidder. Estimate: $60,000 - $120,000.

I am off to my bank to take some cash out now.

Personally, I don't care if it is missing " as long as Bogie has his two eyes. That's fine by me ;D

Ted, do you think he would know why the right-hand set of   "   was not printed?

A printing error? Or was it decided that they be left off the grey jacket on purpose?

It would be interesting to know the actual reason.

I'll bet he does.
Doesn't he live in your neighborhood?
Track him down before it's too late.  He's in his 90s, God bless him.

Link to Heritage 6 sheet Casablanca here

Hmmm, interesting! Thanks Undead for finding that out. Heritage says the word Casablanca has been heavily restored and also around it. Here's a thought. What if the red transfer wasn't even added. It looks on the poster there is space for the red apostrophe to be added (lack of other print in  that area) but maybe the restorer added the red Casablanca and forgot to also add the apostrophe?

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot more restoration was done as comparing the poster to the pressbook image it seems the background yellow has been altered in many places. I think I heard here that pressbook images may not represent the final poster image exactly?

Oh, looks like Heritage are now watermarking their supersize images so I guess people can't farm their images and sell them eg movieposterdb.com

Well, can I say Heritage, your current method of watermarking is useless. It looks like you (or your partner IT team) tried to be way too smart smart and as a result left a gaping hole for the public to access the unwatermarked images. I copied it from your site to mine. Here it is scaled down... click it for the full size version:

some great stuff in the auction. I'm shocked there is actually a second copy of Murder My Sweet 40x60 (I have a copy). The Swedish poster for King Kong is a superb piece

I am more concerned about the $0.48 rental fee for the Cassie 6-sheet - that's outrageous, preposterous, ludicrous

Every CASABLANCA six-sheet image I could find has the ending quotes in red.
(Though they could all be from the same image)

Sure looks like the restorer botched the Heritage copy.

I presume someone has drawn this to HA's attention, that their description is in fact misleading and incorrect?

It seems almost impossible that the one set of quote marks would NOT be printed, when this was produced. The red title and quotes were most likely printed at the same time as that part of the inked plate (with red) went thru the press.

For one set of the quote marks to not have gotten inked and printed makes NO sense at all.  :-\

What is odd is that there appears to be an area where this set should go. Its as though the restorer opted to match the white and grays of the jacket. Curious indeed.

 eyeroll

You all are totally taking Heritage's description of the poster out of context. They have described it correctly, there is nothing misleading or incorrect in their description.  Read it again (bold is mine):

"The quotation marks on the right side of the title were not left off of the poster in restoration but were never printed in red when the poster was produced."

The quotation marks were printed on the poster, but it is a misprint where the color was not applied to that section. When backing the poster, the restorer left it the way it had originally been printed.  If he had colored it in, everyone would be complaining that color was added to the poster that wasn't there when it was printed.

This is a gorgeous piece with very minimal work done to it, to compare it to a pressbook image (which a majority of times is mock-up artwork and almost never an actual image of a completed poster - especially in regards to 6-sheets or 24-sheets) and proclaim it must be heavily restored is laughable.
