And the winner of a completely bogus GODZILLA poster is...
uh, well, maybe the buyer should be asking some questions at this joint.
Pays to do your research, eh?

...and another rube is buying this BARBARELLA knock-off from the same crook...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Barbarella-Jane-Fonda-1967-/220991551963?pt=UK_Arts_Posters_RL&hash=item33741f79db

Paul Waines brought this to light this morning. He contacted the seller, who decided to just let the auction continue. Bastard.
Seller id: hollinson206.
Hopefully the buyers see this post before they ante up.

That Godzilla licensed reprint is very good, even has the union logo.  Of course, the size and being rolled gives it away. If I can find a large picture of that reprint, I'll add it to the MPC authentication page.

Anyone have a link to one sold AS a reprint?

Mr. Waines made mention that it was a Moviegoods.com reprint.
Sure looks it.

Another was listed as an original on Ebay some weeks back.  Might have been from the same seller.

I have gotten great buys from them in the past. And when they over graded they let me keep the damaged ones and sent replacements free. Never a problem with them.

These are not Moviegoods reprints as far as I know. MovieGoods makes crap 27" x 40" unlicensed digital repros of everything under the sun (except for Disney posters because Disney sued them).  MovieGoods makes no effort to disguise that they sell reprints.  Their prints are astoundingly blurry and no one would believe they are originals.

These Godzilla posters are very high-quality 39.5" licensed repros.  MoviePosterBid sold one of them a while back:

The part of his listing I like best is  "Artwork by Raymond Burr"...... laugh1

I shouldn't laugh, some one has just paid £230 for a £10 poster....

The guy says he never said it was original in his listing, but has placed his ad in the pre-70's ORIGINALS.... and in his Questions section was trying to convince people it was genuine....  When I told him it was a re-pro, I don't think he was too happy...and he never posted my Questions on his listing...

Shoddy seller, do try to keep away.

It's more than a Hobby...

Tell her you know where to get one for a tenner Ari.... should do the trick.

You maybe right Mel, but his measurements are spot on for a Moviegoods, bearing in mind his has been trimmed on the top....by 1/4"

You - and everybody else - should buy at least one MovieGoods reprint to buy "peace of mind."  You will be astounded by how bad they are.  They've got a library of 400,000 images of movie posters but all they do is "blow up" these images into 27x40 reprints (or even bus shelter size).  They don't recreate the text to make it sharper, so the text is abysmally fuzzy, practically unreadable, from the digitization/blowing up processes.  They don't size them correctly either - everything is printed at 27x40, even pre-1990 41" posters.

The good news is there are relatively few digital reprints out there we need to worry about.  The more serious problem is a perfect licensed repro - like this Godzilla reprint - that could be mistaken for a trimmed original.

Added Godzilla authentication on this forum and on MoviePosterCollectors.com.

Send links to them to any errant seller.

P.S. Just noticed it is not a printing defect on the original, just two separate blocks. Will fix.

Thanks for these, Ted. I emailed the first seller last week, as well, and never heard back from him (typical, when someone knows they are selling copper and not gold)-- and just like mr waines' question, it didnt make it to the Q&A section at the bottom of the auction page.

"art by Raymond Burr" = Priceless

Individuals (thieves) selling these repros will never cease, as there are always those uninformed or naive buyers that will be willing to bite.

And with ebay doing little to nothing to curtail this practice, it will only continue and proliferate.

+1 on this, Paul.

Buying an original item, regardless of price (meaning whatever one cares to spend or can afford) is the way to go.

Enki, I can't believe you did all that dopey analysis.

Umm, maybe you should have checked the official Facebook page....

That's almost as brilliant as Jeff "x-raying" the obvious fake Goldfinger poster I posted a while back, which he's now conveniently deleted by the way.

And Thierry kinda surprised you went down that road too...

The x-ray image I used was a link from another site* (I did not create it) and hot linking was, apparently, not permitted (as can happen with images used from movieposterdb or impawards). Because of this, the x-ray image was removed by them, not me. Had I chosen to delete the image myself, I would have deleted the entire post; to leave my original post, sans image, makes no sense.

So the above comment is (once again) without merit and and yet another example of one's opinion (incorrectly) stated as fact.

*Edit alert: I DID correct the spelling error, while time permitted. pcorn

You made a fool of yourself, along with your pal Bondie, and then you deleted your asinine "x-ray" image.  You couldn't delete your own post.

By the way, your spelling is rather pitiful too - "sight"

Really Mel?,
Your original post, was under Hide In The Closet Girls, how you expect a person to distinguish a real poster and a mock up just by browsing that thread is incredulous..
No attempt was made on your part to clearly say it was one of your chop jobs...now you think that poking fun of those who thought you had posted a real poster is clever??..mmm

Suffice it to say that Jeff is not nearly as innocuous as his posts on this board would suggest.  He contributes to this board, so I'm not going to go into detail. But some of us know exactly how he has crossed the line of fair play.
