Noticed the price got dropped on this Gone With the Wind daybill today and within a couple of hours it got sold.

I think it was $8500 or $8000 but got dropped to $6500.

Sure wasn't me (but then again I could spend $6,500 on a many other posters I would drool over every day over the GWTW).

John sure has been selling some bigger ticket posters lately...

So how about a thread to discuss unusual, unexpected, and/or outrageous auction results AFTER they are over?

IMHO no one should discuss a PENDING auction - the spoils should go to those who take the time to find the good auction deals!

So let's start with one that just ended a few minutes ago on movieposterbid.com

Ferris Bueller International one sheet for $1,112 - WTF!

Huh? Someone want to explain that?
What, Wow, No way i cant believe it a Ferris Bueller's Day Off poster .....

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a classic that will transcend generations, the fact that the best artwork is on a unicorn one sheet (this particular one being in great condition), and from a trusted seller, then voila.  :D

hey brother I sold it in my auctions. The underbidder was a very well known poster dealer and the winner was very thankful and had been looking for it for some time

Ferris is a classic and the international poster is an absolute beaut. Not sure I'd drop $1k on it, but if it's someone's fave film, then money well spent for them I suppose.

anyone know how this auction went?
http://www.woolleyandwallis.co.uk/departments/20thcenturydesign/da090311/?Page=25

I was tempted, but thought the estimates were set low to draw people in, there were a few nice pieces there

Ah, so you were watching this auction too, P!?
I spoke to the Department Head and it sounded like he didn't know the real value of the pieces because prior to the auction he explained to me that he had been informed of the Goldfinger poster pulling in £4,000-5,000 at another auction house.

What do you think of the prices they went for?
Best wishes,
Adam

i think they were pretty much bang on, maybe a little light?

the Dr No had a few issues, but they were in pretty good condition.

what do you think?

Yeah, they were in good condition.
Some of the nicest unrestored pieces I've seen in a while.

Regarding the price results - when you add the commission on I think they were ok; I wouldn't say too light, though.
If they had been sent to Christies, they would have been linen backed and restored beforehand, potentially fetching a little more, but getting gear into Christies is ridiculously difficult!

Did you bid on any of it, P?
I went after one or two, but lost out lol!
Best wishes,
Adam

A shocking development as Im confused yet again. Can someone explain to me why this View To A Kill insert went for $555.00 ? I can only assume rarity?

I considered bidding, but it went up fast.  If you look at the history, it was just 2 bidders from $50 onward.  Somebody just had to have it.

I have the OS version of this and picked it up for less than $50. The insert format works well with this image but doesn't justify anything close to $555.

This insert is one that really should be in the "posters that were born to be inserts" thread, IMO.  Sometimes on the rare ones ya gotta get 'em while the gettin's good.

85' inserts/half sheets start getting a little tougher to run down on some titles.
