The Invisible Man teaser: $230,000.00 plus the bp!!            notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

'Tis an impressive result, indeed.

Heritage mentioned the poster in a brief article:

In only a few instances did the studio produce a teaser for their horror greats but when they did they were often outstanding as is this poster!

Perhaps one of the most impressive of all of the great Universal horror posters, we believe this would be a cornerstone in any advanced collection.

Has one of these ever been auctioned?

One of those feel good moments.  The Memphis Belle went for $4063 on HA tonight.  I bought one in equal condition a few months ago for $1500.  Yeah, I know its not indicative, but still...

I had the opposite occur. My 1956 KING KONG re-release went for $687. It was up right after a 1942 re-release KONG with almost the same art (just different coloring), which went for $1434. The 1956 KONG was on linen (ugh!), but it did go for a few hundred less than i paid for mine. Oh well. However, the DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS that closes tomorrow is already over $1000, which is much more than i paid for mine. I guess it all evens out.

This Italian poster for It's A Wonderful Life did great today, too, settling in at $28,680.00 (inc the BP).  I love this flicker AND this poster.  bed1 thumbsup.gif

The poster is described as an Italian 4-fogli, that would measure approx 55x78 inches. But looking at this pic, the poster looks to be more square, with both the height and width appearing to be basically the same length but doesn't really look rectangular in shape.

Is it just the way this poster is printed that makes it look that way? When I first looked at the pic, I actually thought it was a 6 sheet.

It's a Wonderful Life (RKO, 1948). Italian 4 - Fogli (55" X 78") Averardo Ciriello Artwork

Is there any doubt that since Heritage got into posters 15 years ago now that they are the true Lion (or whatever) of the hobby?
Here's something - Heritage just today sold six posters for $50,000 or more. That is the exact same number of $50K+ posters Bruce has sold in the last 15 years combined.
Truly amazing.

Oops - I forgot Wizard of Oz - that's seven $50K+ posters today.

Hi Grey.. I noticed in the description for The Invisible Man, that there is mention of an included snipe that was attached to the poster (and is included with the auction). What was printed on the snipe? And where had it been attached on the poster?

This is truly a stunning poster! Congrats again, to you, HA and the consignor. clap clap clap

The snipe is shown in the catalog and online, it has a theater name and starting date for the film listed.
I believe this could have been the copy from the Heritage Christmas catalog of 5-6 years ago or so (originally Fishler's duplicate copy, then Schacter, and then sold in the bankruptcy auction), but would have to try and find it to double check.

had the Casablanca one sheet been  a raw, unbacked copy, there would have been 8

another stat - they sold 2 posters for over $100k

Hello Sean, Jeff, et al,
The Invisible Man poster was a previously unknown copy to the hobby.
It came from a man who did not collect movie memorabilia who picked it up years ago.
This copy is in better condition than the one I sold in the Christmas catalog some years ago.
By the way, the snipe was attached in the lower portion of the poster.
No damage was incurred in removing.
As bright as the day it was printed, no doubt.

Wow, so not only a new copy - but quite likely the best copy known.
What a find! You guys constantly amaze with your new discoveries, no wonder you keep knocking it out of the park.

And to think that back in December of 1996, Christie's sold a copy of The Invisible Man teaser for a mere $48,300.00

21 years certainly makes a difference.

That would be the copy currently on ebay.

That averages just below $2500/lot.  Makes me feel like a cheapskate since I 'only' spent $650 on the one lot I won.  I dragged down the average :)

Same here, my average was lower than $2,500 on the 5 items I won.  We're all little collectors.  Not ***** for sure.
