$530.00 for this JP B2 poster for a flick starring James Taylor? Is this rare? Or what's the draw for this one?

well, 2 lane blacktop is kind of a 70s cult film, and the B2 has a bit of cache.  I wouldn't bid it, but I guess I'm not that surprised.

Being that this is a cult film (Im not familiar with it at all) then I can see how it's price got driven up like that by 2 die hard fans, once again. Thanks, Jay.

Gotta know the crowd.  Some auctions, you just shake your head and walk away.

Meanwhile, Peter had Uni horror re-release LCs going for under $100.

I completely missed (it was a work day---and even at 5 a.m. I was not coherent enough to remember the auction--or place any bids) Part 1 of eMovie's March Major auction. It looks like the things I was watching I would have probably been outbid on anyway. Did anyone pick up anything...and were there any surprises? ARGH! I could kick myself for not even trying...

It was all linenbacked stuff, so I passed.  I only buy linen if there is no other way to get what I want, but most of these could be found folded.

Were they all linen backed, really? I remember shopping and putting things in my "saved" file, just based on the poster and the condition. I didn't read the descriptions. Ha! Thank you, T. Although I now have a few linen posters, I'm still no fan of them (and can NOT figure out how to frame/hang the ones I do have). CHEERS!

Shawn, what is it you cant figure out exactly about framing them? Im pretty sure there are threads in the framing section that have discussed this topic.  :)

The linen backed posters I have are just so stiff and have those linen sides. I just do NOT understand how to frame them without damaging the poster.

If you have that linen border, you either need to get a frame that is larger than 27x41 to accommodate the linen, or as some have done, trimmed the linen to the edge of the poster (i personally wouldn't do this).

Then frame as normal, with a sturdy, acid free backing board, UV plexi and frame style of choice.  thumbsup.gif

Heritage does this every single week. Plainly said, there is no competition for HA
few things they sell go higher anywhere else and they get prices for ordinary things that blow your mind.

They do so well, that every item I send them (and they have a dozen in the Sig auction) I send with >>no reserve<< because I am so certain they will do just fine with them.

My hat goes off to Grey Smith

Hats off to Grey, too, without a doubt.

It was more an observation of how there can be quite a range of realized prices for the same poster (and this being a video release OS is what caught me eye, too).

You're right, they're a pain in the ass to frame, a pain in the ass to store and you never really know what has been done to your poster.  Bruce has an amazing selection, as always, just not for me.  Like I said, it would really have to be a hard to get piece for me to take the fall.  Look what happened with my Laura.  I waited, and waited, and finally got a clean folded version.  There is no substitute.

if you look at their weekly results, they average about $100 per item every week.

compared to a weekly average of as low as $15 at other venues, I fail to see how anyone can claim they do better, for anyone.

linenbacked framing.. I don't have lots of linenbacked material (don't like it and I collect paper, not linen), but what I do have is either very rare or oversized
generally when I put them up, I just pin them to the wall, like the 2 French 47x63 for Orpheus or the other posters I have up

I've been sitting on an item for several months now.  I'd really like to frame and display, but it came backed with about a 3" linen border around the poster.  I am kind of stuck with analysis paralysis on how to proceed.  The way I see it, I could do a really oversized frame and matte down to 27x41.  I could also trim the linen to 1/2" past the edge of the poster and go with a 28x42 frame.  I think the linen would look OK unmatted if left narrow.  I just kind of hate to do something irreversible.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Linenbacking is already permanent. I hate it when I get a poster with tons of extra linen around the edges. I usually just trim it down to about a half inch.

I like there to be about 1-1.5" border so that it can be easily pinned up.

I very much dislike posters that have been trimmed to the border and refuse to even consider them for my collection

I used mats for all my framed posters.

I know there are plenty of linen haters, but Mexican posters often need the stabilization of linen backing due to the paper being such crap.

Anyway, matting solves the issue of framing linen backed posters for me. I usually go with about a 2" wide mat, which is plenty to cover the excess linen. One could go with a narrower mat too and still have plenty of linen to protect the poster edges.

Yes, I know it is canvas and not actually linen  :)

I bought two from the Emovie Part 1 auction :) Will put them up in the acquisitions thread when they arrive.

However I missed out on The Lady from Shanghai which went for $3900. (I went to $3600) I think that is cheap for that poster!

Wow Matt, 16k on that M poster???  You are the DEEP POCKET KING OF APF (that's your new nickname, btw... DPK).  Sorry you lost.  It's one of my favorite movies, I thought of bidding, but as much as my wife doesn't know anything of what I spend on posters, this one would have been hard to conceal.

Kudos to you.
