Supposedly the script is very good, but I haven't read it myself, nor have I particularly gone looking. I'm extremely turned off by the decision to CG the animals in a franchise that is famous for its incredible makeup and costumes. It really seems to destroy something that made the franchise so respectable.

James Franco was good in 127 Hours, but Jessie Eisenberg was also good in The Social Network. Both actors I feel have the capability to give one good performance and the rest of them will just be... them talking. Not particularly acting.

Weta and Andy Sirkis worked miracles on KING KONG.
I think their involvement in this project is a major plus.
I'll watch it.

With Andy and WETA involved it *could* be interesting. But it is a disappointment (and sign of the times) that ALL of the simians will be CG and digital creations from WETA. Meaning real actors shot against green screen and playing to markers where the digital apes FX will be edited in, during post.

Without having any way to read a script, we can only go on comments made from actors, who say it is a good story. Still, I loved Rick (edit) Chambers' original, 1968 makeup designs, for which he won an Academy award, that year. Those makeups defined the Apes franchise.

Rick Baker's work on the 2001 flop was amazing.. but as the pic below shows... Helena Carter's makeup was a BUST, IMO. Since when do female chimps have drawn eyebrows and wear eyeliner or lipstick?? LOL.  She looked ridiculous, topped off with that modern hairstyle.

Twas John Chambers who won the special makeup Oscar for the 1968 classic, and Rick Baker who did the incredible work on the 2001 remake.
While the 1968 classic pioneered modern-day ape makeup, Baker's work in 2001 is stunning.
I'm sure this new film will have plenty of special makeup effects to enjoy -- alongside some intense CGI.

Just saw it tonight, it was a pretty decent movie. Of course there are parts that didn't work well, and the beginning of the movie, the less action oriented part of it was probably more enjoyable. They put all the action at the end which given the story is understandable but it felt overstuffed during the 3rd act. I did enjoy it, it's a good movie.

I'm beginning to have concerns with WETA though. I don't want to see them get so busy and have to pump so much out at a time that the quality suffers. They did a decent job with the apes but honestly something that bugs me quite a bit with performance capture (with the exception of Avatar of course) is getting the movement right. It's not fluid enough and just doesn't look right. Most notably the parts where the apes move quickly. A good example of this is the clip with David Hewlett online where he gets tackled by Caesar, the movement doesn't look right.

I dont read rereviews until I have seen it, but my dad called me last night and he loved it, Im gonna check this sucker out.
