Do you have to RESTRAIN yourself from buying DIFFERENT posters?
« on: February 25, 2011, 07:30:17 PM »
Hi guys,

I've been looking at a few of the collections on the forums; there is some fabulous gear in our modest community.
What prompted me to create this topic was the horror posters I have been in awe of, from ladykillers collection on MPF to Paul Waines collection here, not discounting everyone else's of course!

There are a few members here who collect only one type of genre, director, actor etc.
Then there are members here who collect everything under the Sun.

I wonder if anyone here thinks the same as, or similar to, me?
Obviously, I collect mainly Bond posters, and a few others, but I love, absolutely LOVE horror posters pretty much over everything (bar Bond)!
I think horror is the only art form where literally anything can go; some of it is terrible - so bad it's good - and some is just out of this world!

When Paul visited me a few weeks ago, I said to him horror posters are my other passion, but I don't want to start collecting the older stuff.
He asked me why, and I replied 'because if I get into it, I will want to buy more & more, and I don't want to'.
This is a personal nightmare for me.

To put it simply:
I have to restrain myself from buying any older horror gear.  uhno

I know people do, and will say, that if I like it, then I should just collect it! ...

... But does anyone else feel the same way as I do, or understand what I mean?

Best,
Adam
Best wishes,
Adam

the only thing that restrains me from buying anything is how much available cash there is at any particular moment

in other words.. what does restraint look like?

Like Rich said, money.  I'd love to collect 50's scifi, 30's-60's horror, etc but my main hobby gets most funds, so I have to carefully pick and choose what MP I buy.  No enough discretionary income to go around  :'(

Adam, I would say go for it.
Why limit yourself to one Genre ?You are missing out on a load of great stuff :-)

I think it is safe to say that more than a few of us have slightly "obsessive" personalities.  Speaking for myself I tend to overdue things and take them to an extreme.  I don't "restrain" myself but it is a battle sometimes to have self control and pick and choose what I buy.

I think we can all agree, the only Restraint is financial. I do stop myself from buying too much new ( post 80's ) stuff as it take's funds away from my main area of collecting.

Sometimes I wish I'd just stuck to the Horror films, but I do like so many other Genre's. Like the Disney, Comedy, Thriller, War, Sci-fi, list goes on. Variety is the spice of life, but would I have had one of the best Horror poster collections in the U.K. Who knows. I like what I like, and the wide range of interest I have means I don't have to buy an over inflated Horror poster for example, I'll buy a couple of Disney one's if funds are tight, and still be happy with them.
It's more than a Hobby...

Agree with all of you...

I have to restrain myself every single day or I would be living under a viaduct with my posters.

Ah, Rich, your post made me  laugh1
Brilliant!

Yeah, money is the major restraint Hackenbush, and I echo the thoughts of Zorba and CJ138!
Stew, with regards to my personal collection away from Bond, I do have other stuff - just not to the extent of some of you guys!
I'm genuinely blown away by the stuff I see here, and on other forums etc.

I like your reasoning as well, Paul. If you don't have the available funds you can buy other pieces and still enjoy them!

Best,
Adam
