Caine Mutiny vs. In a Lonely Place

On todays eMovie daily face off, The Caine Mutiny is crushing In a Lonely Place 52 to 19.  Now, I haven't seen CM, but I did go to a 35mm screening of IALP a few years ago and thought it was fantastic.  Is Caine Mutiny really that good?  Or have not enough people seen IALP?

It really is more a question of which did you see over which is better.

Two of the most wonderful movies of all time are Trouble in Paradise and Love Me Tonight. The first is a romance and the second is a romantic musical. Both would get crushed by any better known title, even if they weren't nearly as good.

I love Bogie but In a Lonely Place is tops by far over Caine Mutiny!

His name is Dix Steele in the movie... how could it not be great! I think a few people in the theater LOL'd the first time Bogey introduced himself on screen! Seriously though, it a great movie and it is definitely one of his darker roles.

Unfortunately the US paper is hum drum... but damn that Italian 4 foglio!

The US , while not as colorful/sweet as the Italian, looks pretty damn cool to me too.

The director of In a Lonely Place was Nicholas Ray, an incredible filmmaker. If you like this, you will love They Live By Night, Bigger Than Life, Johnny Guitar, and On Dangerous Ground.

And he was married to the luscious but crazy Gloria Grahame, at least until he came home to find her in bed with his teenage son from a previous marriage (and she later married the son and had children with him)!

First time I came across the title IN A LONELY PLACE I thought it had something to do with the New Order (Joy Division) song.  Needless to say, I've not seen the movie so I voted for CAINE MUTINY.
