HELP: identify silent movie poster “ les loups de NY“
« on: August 03, 2020, 06:34:24 PM »
Hi boys/girls
I need your help to identify this silent movie poster...
It’s most likely a Belgian (or French) poster for a US silent movie.
I still have to do some research on the movie theater (scala).
I found a “wolf/wolves” list on silent-era but it a bit too big to individually search for every single film.
So it would be very useful if some would recognize some of the actors.
(My wild guess would be wolf of wall street and I found a lobby with both actors looking a bit like the guys on the poster but not sure .)
So any help are more then welcome
Thx

Grief, I was inspired to dive in but really, have come up with nothing.

Will be interested to see if others can improve upon my efforts.

Is there any chance it is a poster for a live theater performance and not a movie?
Kind of like many early Ten Nights in a Bar Room posters

well that's always possible but most of the vintage French or Belgian theater poster are completely different then this one.
Mostly they have a few scenes depicted  (of every act) , name of the theater company/performer , date, place, ...
theatre Frederic Achard is one of these typical performers and if you look at his posters its completely different then this one
I also found another silent movie poster in that same lot for the movie Bavu, so I would rather keep looking in that direction.

Scala is a typical (movie) theater name and found a few in Belgium and France , so that won't really help us a lot.

so maybe i should dive into the archive of Bruce or Heritage and look up every single of the movie-title and see if i can find lobby cards with similar looking scenes or actors?

"the Wolf hunters" could be a candidate.... looking at the key words and description.... but i found a lobby card depicting a mountain police so that's no way close ...

IMO these actors look a bit like to 2 ones fighting in the poster ( this a lobby card of Wolf of Wall Street) but can't find a picture with a copper....

If i remember correctly, I believe Scala is also an old theatre in Paris.  At first glance, I would think it’s for a play, and not a movie.  Pretty cool either way.

Neither has the Bavu poster director , producer or film company details.
I think both poster are local made for a movie.
I added some typical french theatre posters of that period.
And I also think it’s very doubtfull that a French (or Belgian) performer would make a NY based play and would have NY police clothes.

Yes indeed Scala Paris still exists...
it has been both a theater and movie theater (from the 30’s till the 70/80’s )
Now it’s back theate and concert hall...

In the 70’s it was famous as a porn movies theatre 🤔🤔🤔

Really curious to see them, hope you can find them.

Any other info on them? Where did you find them /how did you get them?
