Top 5 Poster Designs for 2010 (so far)
« on: October 25, 2010, 10:09:18 PM »
Heading speaks for itself.  I was putting up new posters in my lightboxes and I just put up this version of Buried:

buried_ver5 by hhrussell, on Flickr

I don't think I've seen a review version of a poster so well done before.

The similar version is:

buried_ver3 by hhrussell, on Flickr

I think either could be put in the top 5 poster designs so far.

Anyway, there's the topic:  What's the best of the best so far?

Best regards,

Holiday

And I didn't mean to limit the postings to what's in your collection.  Opinions count on this thread!

We're lucky Mel even posts pictures for us, because all we ever want is MORE MORE MORE!!!   :D

The Tron and Salt posters are pretty epic, IMO.  I forgot (for a couple tenths of a second) about the DS Salt bus shelter I scored a few weeks ago on Ebay.  It's about the best I have for 2010 movies, and it's currently my best contribution to this thread.

More than 5...  Of the ones I own, my 8 favorites so far.  I will soon add Black Swan, but I don't own it yet.

As usual the Japanese posters are superb but here are some more US posters I like (but don't own):

Wall Street International (there is an English version of this):

Creepy image:

Don't like Joan Rivers but like this poster:

Everyone should see this documentary - explains our "house of cards" economy in 2007:

I will buy this Hugh Hefner if anybody has a copy:

2011!

This teaser is from 2010.
What? It doesn't qualify?
If not, you'll be damn sure to see it on this thread next year.

Tron is great, colors work well. Black Swan... gotta love Natalie. Buried, I actually prefer the initial advance over the Vertigo style. Toy Story 3 is going to be a classic. Salt...  come on, Mr and Mrs Smith Advance is the ultimate Jolie poster to own.

Burlesque is really an eye catcher, but I guess you would probably need to like one of the stars.

Frozen and Hatchet 2 are going to be scarce horror posters down the road.

Human Centipede, good luck finding, and let me go on record as to saying I have no idea how this movie got green lit to be made.

Piranha 3D final, FANTASTIC horror poster, is going to pick steam on DVD release.

Skyline, I have not researched at all, but the detail on the advance poster is amazing.

I don't really do new stuff, but I'm with Chris, that Metropolis is first rate. I do like the new Quad of Metropolis also, maybe Mel could do the honours with a pic of it :)

That's the one Mel, Thanks for that. It does have a 30's / Deco feel about it. I may have to get one......Or both, as I do like the Robot one.

Score one for the quads - one quad has the same image as three one sheets put together:

Good reason it has that Deco feel, Paul.  It is actually derived from the 1927 French 4-sheet...

'Metropolis', designer - Boris Konstantinovitch Bilinsky (1900-1948), 4 Sheet Poster, colour lithograph, 96 x 120 inches (224 x 303.5 cm), Farblithografie, Bédos et Cie, Paris, 1927. Collection of Staatliche Museen Preußischer Kulturbesitz / Kunstbibliothek, Berlin. Illustrated Neumann (1997). Reference: Das Ufa-Plakat. Filmpremieren 1918-1933, Herausgegeben von Peter Mänz und Christian Maryska, Edition Braus, Heidelberg, 1998. A reprint was sold during the Ufa-Plakat exhibition in Berlin and Los Angeles, 1998 and 1999. Boris Bilinsky designed 3 other different posters for the French distribution of Metropolis.

IMP Awards out for 2010 - very disappointing and mediocre choices generally IMHO.  Who picks these?

Some of the categories are cool, such as the "worst tag line" and "not so serious awards", especially the latter which contains the "best gratuitous butt shot award".   :D

Finally saw Piranha a couple weeks, wow what a horrible movie, I bought it on word of mouth of gore and gratuitous nudity, but expected a little more. We watched upstairs with no surround action going, I have heard it is one of the top newer films for reference audio demo's, but would definitely need to watch the audience you screen it for  ;)
