I love musicals! and I love lobbies

I finally got out and watched LaLa Land.  Loved it and IMO, it deserves its nominations.

Anyway, seeing it is making me share my current emphasis.  I have been collecting musical lobbies for some time now.  IT is getting to be a solid collection, although I would be the first to admit there is a long way to go.

So...  here is a sampling of what I have. In most cases, I have the set, or a most of same, but I tried to limit it to just one card per title.  A few exceptions

Marvelous!  Some of the cards show some snazzy looking production numbers...and make me want to maybe re-visit some musicals fairly soon. I, too, enjoyed LA-LA LAND, by the way. Thanks for posting.

This one brings up a question.  I notice that although Sammy Davis Jr appears in this card, his name has been removed from the credits and blank space inserted.

I do know that his songs were replaced on the soundtrack album with Cab Callaway due to contractual issues.  Did that extend to the film itself.

Porgy and Bess is one of the few great musicals that has never been given a video release.  I understand it is the Gershwin estate that holds it back, the same as what held Annie Get your Gun up for decades.

Finding a complete Singin in the Rain set is nearly impossible.  I currently have #1,2,3,7 and 8.  It is a matter of being dedicated to the hunt.  Expect to pay around $100 for each scene card in VG or better condition.  The title card cost me $600.  That lines up pretty well with price for a set going for $1500-2000

BTW, I also have 1 delux card, 4 from the 62 re-release and a couple from That's Entertainment.  The that's entertainment cards are a good way to get the images cheap.  FWIW, I paid $50 for a so-so delux card back in 1989.  The 62 RR cards are cheap, but they are red monochrome and I wouldn't recommend them.

Thanks, Jay. I was able to pick up a complete 12 card set of That's Entertainment Part 2 for a reasonable price. The pic of Cyd alone was worth it. Really appreciate your lead on that set.

Cool.  And you got the Easter Parade couple of swells, the Bandwagon triplets and the Anchors Aweigh hotel dance cards thrown in to boot.

Not sure what all I got - only eight were pictured, but the description said twelve. The ebay photo was credited as being from Heritage, so I'm hoping they're in great shape. For five bucks each, I figured I can't lose.

Made my first ever purchase from HA today.  Picked up these three:




These don't come up often.  The last and only TC Bruce sold was in 2006.  He has sold #7 twice (2006 and 2011) and has never sold #2.

When I discussed the Singing' in the Rain deluxe set, Matt mentioned he had a set.  We made a deal, for that set and a few others, including a card of Astaire/Rogers carefree (also hard to find).  Just to prove networking here can work



I am now fairly complete on the musicals I need to have. Just looking for 1 more title.  You should be able to guess from what I have shown, but a hint is that it is another Garland card.

That's a complicated question.  I try for sets, and have them for about 75% of my musicals.  The pre-ww2 is very difficult to find, so I take what I can get, usually a card or two.  In addition, I have filled in with a lot of stuff I simply don't care much about.  Musicals that never attained lasting status.  An example is Swing it Cinderella.  For that one I only have title cards, one original and one re-release.  I usually buy that sort of stuff for under $10/card.

I just bought a partial set for Meet Me in St Louis because it is the first time I have seen it up for auction anywhere.  I will try and fill, but that one is going to take a long time.
