I don't think you necessarily overpaid for this guy.  I think it's right where it should be, even maybe a little under since it is VF and folded.  Not rare, but a great Hammer design by Guy Gérard Noël that can only be found in this format.  A must, imo.  I think it was my first French Hammer.  Welcome to the club.  You have 7 more Hammer Noël to go.

Seven more Hammer Noels to go? Ha!  We'll see. (Hmm. What do they look like?  I'll have to check them out. THANKS!

CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF (French affiche):

Ugh!  This was one of the two things I won on the recent big Heritage Auction. I was NOT watching this poster or hoping to get it. It's just that when i had a chance to log on, it came up and...I went bonkers trying to win SOMETHING. I won this. I like the color scheme and the art...but didn't realize it was the smaller size French affiche until the auction had concluded. i spent way, WAY too much for it. It's nice, but...

You outbid me by a dollar on this one but I'm happy I know it went to you!  I had my budget that day and oddly I actually stuck to it.  It's good to find this poster with the UNIVERSAL FILM INC. at the top that has not been cut.  Most I've seen have that text slightly cropped.

We'll meet again BELLOQ A GO-GO...

I think it's because the text is right against the border.  I own 2 copies of this poster, and the text is all in.  The text is so close to the border that people probably cut it out a little when they take a picture of their poster.

That's interesting because I've seen several of these that were full pics of the poster and they were trimmed, plus I purchased one (that I had to unfortunately return) and it was trimmed.  I'll keep looking and it's good to know most may not be like that.

Trust me, they're not trimmed.  No one trims these posters because medium size French posters from the 50s and 60s are all the same size and there is no reason to trim them.  I probably have 400 of them stacked up in a drawer, and they line up perfectly, give or take 1/16 of an inch.  Like I said, the title was printed right against the border, so there could be a tiny, tiny discrepancy between posters, but not a trim.

Here's one of mine:

Zowie, Mike! Had I only known... I would have totally stayed away. Sorry.

I want to thank both you and Thierry for your discussion about this poster--in fact almost everyone who has left a comment since I posted it has mentioned that poster. Buying it was sort of a desperate fluke. Glad to know it's a "good one" after all. I had no idea. By the way, i looked up the other Noel Hammer posters that Thierry mentioned---stunning and beautiful. If I do pursue them, how many hundreds,...er, THOUSANDS will they cost me? Zoinks!  I'll worry about those later---if i ever encounter them, that is.

Thanks for stopping by.

This is the collection from my collection.  I posted them small to not clutter your thread.  4 movies, 58' Horror of Dracula, 59' The Mummy, 61' Curse of the Werewolf and 63' Kiss of the Vampire.  Medium affiche, large affiche, medium affiche, large affiche...  All by Guy Gérard Noël.  Price wise, the large Dracula is the most expensive, $3-4K in great condition.  #2 price wise would be the large Mummy, which I would say is harder to find than the Dracula.  $1-2k.  Then the medium Dracula.  $1k.  All the others can be found under $1k.

If you're a completist, I'd also add these 2 by Joseph Koutachy: 60' The Brides of Dracula.

Make sure you get the right U logo.  The last 2 were re-released.

Hi there and HAPPY APRIL! I'm a tad early as my birthday is Friday (April 15th---TAX DAY to all of you procrastinators out there), and I am heading for the coast for a long birthday weekend (starting with a night at the Madonna Inn in one of their cave rooms---always wanted to do that, so...I AM!). Anyway, happy April!  I hope your spring is sunny and full of fun (and amazing posters). I work the next two days--and then I'm off. i won't be buying anything between then and now--so here are the posters for the month:

WINK OF AN EYE:

I thought I had gotten this a while back--but apparently not. I guess I've just been flirting with the idea of getting it? I finally did get it to pad out the shipping of something below. I had never heard of the 1958 obscurity until I saw the poster. There is scant information about it online...not that i really care. The poster promises a "big switcheroo". If you look at the poster, i think I can figure out what the switcheroo is. One arrow is pointing at the woman in red on the upper right side. Follow the arrow back down and around and it points at the butcher-looking guy. Clearly they are one in the same? And this pre-dates William Castle's "HOMICIDAL" by 3 years. It's probably a crappy movie, but a curio for sure. The poster isn't that thrilling, but still caught my eye.

ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS:

What was i thinking with this one? I didn't need it. It was just cheap, colorful and new and why not? I have the lenticular for the first ALICE film (Mad Hatter) and possibly the poster as well. This is just the poster for the sequel--which i may or may not bother with (the first film I found visually interesting--but boring).

SANTA SANGRE (video):

I LOVE this movie. i think it is simply brilliant. Alejandro Jodorowsky has only turned out a handful of films, but EL TOPO and HOLY MOUNTAIN are just amazing...and this film blew me away when i first saw it. This is only the video release (VHS!) poster. i have a messed up copy tucked away somewhere --and am glad to get this upgrade. I actually like the image on the video poster better than the US one sheet -- or most of the posters for the film from other countries.

REVENGE OF BIGFOOT:

OOPS!  I apparently already bought this LAST year. Now I have two.

ALICE SWEET ALICE:

I got a copy of this nifty little poster last year. This second copy was part of a lot--and i don't mind getting another copy. With the creepy double-faced doll being stabbed with a knife while a freaky mask peers out of a bag--this poster has a lot going for it. This movie is largely forgotten despite the fact the movie seemed to be re-released (under different titles) every few months for YEARS due to the fact that a very young Brooke Shields was featured in the movie.

FADE TO BLACK:

I already have a copy of this poster--but I remember it had black marker on the back (although i don't believe it bled through...). This movie, also largely forgotten, had a nifty premise. The lead character murders people while dressed as different movie monsters that he idolizes. I haven't seen it in years and remember thinking it was just okay at the time--but i may need to give it another watch.

FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH:

FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH isn't exactly shock-a-rama but whatever. Geez, this movie came out about the time I was in high school. I'm hitting 51 on the 15th. Where did the time go? I know Steve is probably having Phoebe Cates coming out of the pool flashbacks right now...

SATAN WAS A LADY:

Finally, I scored a copy of the one sheet for Doris ("Bad Girls Go To Hell"/"Nudes on the Moon"/"The Amazing Transplant"/"Another Day Another Man"/etc.) Wishman's SATAN WAS A LADY. It is apparently an adult movie---I've not seen it yet. But if it's as weird and all over the place as Wishman's other opuses, well I'm sure she focuses on ashtrays and ugly paintings as much (if not more) than any sex act (I still can't imagine Wishman doing a porn... Silly nudies, yes--porn? No.) Not that nice of a poster---but hard to get regardless.

THE SPIRITUALIST:

I know nothing about this movie and the only name i recognize on it is Richard ("Creature From The Black Lagoon") Carlson. However I dug the vintage look of the poster--the colors, title lettering and the quasi-spooky/creepy subject matter (it even features a crystal ball). I don't have a lot from the 1940s (this is 1948)...so why not?

THE BOWERY BOYS MEET THE MONSTERS:

This was my consolation prize from a recent emovie auction. Jeff had recommended a poster he thought needed to be in the Shock-A-Rama poster show. I had already had it in my watch list...and the bidding was fierce. I SHOULD have held out longer...but I threw in the towel when a last minute bidder swooped in and bid some big bucks on it. Dang.

Anyway, almost right after that loss, this other poster came up. BOWERY BOYS MEET THE MONSTERS. I've heard of the B. Boys before---just not this title. It's not pristine but it does have monsters (a go-go?). It was also about $40 or so less than the other one I lost (ARGH! I STILL should have tried for that other one...) and it's pretty groovy in a cheesy sort of way. Yippie!

LOGAN'S RUN (beach towel):

What!?! ANOTHER Farrah beach towel? You already have that, you are saying. Well, not exactly... When I got the first towel--I was so thrilled because I had had one as a kid. I didn't mention it at the time, but the towel from my memory did not match the actual towel ! got...but it was 40 years later and memories sometimes warp. Imagine my surprise when i saw this towel---that looked exactly like the towel of memory!  Who knew they had made TWO different Farrah/LOGAN'S RUN towels? My original towel, as I recall, was just a giant portrait of Farrah's face with the city and movie title at the bottom (instead of the crouching, full body portrait on the other towel).  Zowie! How cool to find one. AND, apparently this towel was folded up and stuck away in storage right after being purchased. It's like brand new! Hooray! I am UBER-thrilled! I know this isn't a TRUE movie poster, but yes, I will hang this in my home as if it were. That's what i did with my original one back in 1976.

Okay. I hope everyone is well. Cha-cha-cha!  Get your taxes done!

CHEERS!

Fade To Black is a fun and cool film. Agree with you, Shawn, it is one that has slipped into the time-mists a bit. So congrats on getting the poster as well as the sudden, 2nd appearing copy of The Bowery Boys poster.  thumbsup.gif

Hi Jeff. No--the BOWERY BOYS poster came up for auction minutes after i lost out on the one you recommended (which i should have bid more on, darn it), BEACH GIRLS AND THE MONSTER. BOWERY BOYS was my consolation prize---and I am happy to have it.  And yes, it is interesting and too bad that some films get lost in time. But then there are thousands of movies out there--so i guess it is understandable. CHEERS and thanks for stopping by.

I'm also a big fan of this movie.  My friend and I stumbled into it during a night of drinking in Balboa, CA...what an experience it was.  I also agree that FADE TO BLACK is a cool film, I remember being a fan of it when i watched it on early cable television.

Shawn if you like the FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH poster you should definitely search out the Thai version.  The girls represent the actual characters from the film and the poster also includes a special surprise.

(again) I LOVE the towel best.

others are great also.

I love ALICE SWEET ALICE (poster/s and film)

The film has more of a european feel to me (which i generally prefer, especially from this era)

rented FAST TIMES repeatedly as a kid, love it.

Mike : I'm glad you know SANTA SANGRE. I just love that film. And the Thai version of FAST TIMES is, of course, far superior than the US version. I might just search it out...but i think Steve, for some unknown reason (or two), cornered the market on all other copies known to exist. Shocking!

Ari : Ha!  I am glad you like my towel. I am soooo thrilled to get it. (I'm also relieved to know that my memory of what the towel really looked like was NOT as warped as I thought when I got the other one. Again, who knew they'd make two different styles of beach towels! Ha!) I'm also glad you enjoy the ALICE SWEET ALICE poster--even though it's a duplicate of the one I got last year. There is just so much going on in the poster--I dig it. And I know what you mean about the European feel of the film. I get that.

Jeff: One last note about the BOWERY BOYS poster---i just noticed "It's Monsterrific!" Ha! I love that!

Thanks for stopping in, fellas. Cheers!
