Seems to me she should have a website devoted to the display, preservation and usage of these things.
Y'know, complete with pics and videos.
Not that I'd be a regular visitor or something...I mean...y'know...I'd check it out, maybe.  wynk

Well, I decided not to "audition" (whatever that means) for the show.  I found out the title of the show is "My Crazy Obsession" on TLC and that's just too derogatory even if it is basically true!  I'm convinced everyone has a crazy obsession but many "obsessions" are accepted by society. Many men obsess about certain athletic teams and women obsess about fashion and shoes. Organized religion arguably is an "obsession."  In the grand scheme of things, all "obsessions" are probably a waste of time and rather frivolous but at least many movie posters have artistic merit, so I'd say this hobby is less frivolous than most.  IMHO of course....

I think you did the right thing. I went to the website and the first segment that came up on video from the show was about a man who was obsessed with wearing baby diapers! I don't think THAT is the kind of impression we want to spread about our "hobby"...!  bed1

I've been reviewing my collection and I've realized I have a PATHETIC four pre-1950 first release posters.  $70,000 blown and only FOUR pre-1950 first release posters out of 1,200?  I must have been smoking crack for four years.

hitself  hitself   hitself   hitself   hitself

At least I know the path going forward....

My PITIFUL collection of pre-1950 first release posters:

At least I did pick up some decent 1950s first release collection (43 posters):

I reckon that TV show sounds great and you should go on it, or at least tell them about someone else, maybe Rich.

Why did Dennis have to die?

Why indeed,Ari.Miss that guy.
Never forget what he told me personally once,on MPF of all places. It was after I joined NSF and I didn't even know he was member at MPF.
Some guy was dissing a new poster that was posted in a tread(nothing wrong with that),I replied it was cool, the guy posted it was junk,no money in new stuff...blah,blah.Basically,coming off as a complete elitist.Dennis, posted he liked too but that was it.It was MPF.. all his favorite words weren't available.
He sent me a message Drak style, something like "anthony, don't listen to that fucking dicklick.he doesn't what the fuck he's talking about"
Of course as said, on MPF the curse words were censored...hehehe.
But,it's what he said after that that has stuck with me all this time. And,we heard him say this on NSF publically on more than a few treads.

"Be a collector of what you like"

I'll never forget that. That's how I was even before I started collecting but, hearing it from Dennis reenforced it, and made me stop and ponder just how important those words really are.
Good words too live by.Especially for all you young collectors out their that are lurking.More to collecting than just buying a bunch of expensive posters.

His knowledge of posters was great, but his knowlegde of collecting might have been even greater.

Anthony

yes, what he was good at, was despite having one of the "greatest" collections anywhere, could see and appreciate when anyone ENJOYED anything. For him someone finding a nothing title for $10 that was a childhood favourite, or whatever was as important as his rarest universal horror, so long as the feeling was there.

The other thing,,, he was good at was letting people know exactly what he thought,,, of course,,, in his own,, special!!! way.. fuck it all,,,, screw you,,,,

Just spent three hours trying to organize my collection and I'm even more frustrated and disorganized than before I started. Essentially, I've got (1) several hundred rolled "photo montage" posters that I "kind of" like but I don't really want to put on the wall again that (2) are worth less than $15 and can only be sold as lots that will sell for next to nothing.  I'm also out of space in my poster drawers.  I'll guess I'll just stick them in storage tubes like everybody else does and just never look at them.

OR, get all your storage space back by taking them to a flea market and charge a few bucks each (at most).

OR consign them to Bruce (now this is where Bruce says - "but I don't want posters that sell for under $15 dammit!" )

This is why I could never sell a poster even if I wanted to. I dont have very many posters that anyone but me would pay $15 for.

I am okay with this.  ;D

What are you using to get that layout, I'd like to keep track of my collection like that right now I'm just using an excel spreadsheet.

Aperture but iPhoto, Lightroom and Adobe Bridge also work.

See the "Digital Organization" section on moviepostercollectors.com.
