I love this one Mike, great artwork.

As per that Never Say Never Again, what is the significance of the Pepsi logo on Thai posters? I picked up a set of King Kong thai posters recently and they have the Pepsi logo on them too. Did Pepsi just have a big marketing push in cinemas in Thailand during the 80s or something?

Tob I can't say for sure.  I've seen it on the posters you mentioned and a few others.  It's even on a Thai poster for OPERATION BANGKOK from 1967.

I've seen COKE and ISUZU logos as well, but my favorite is on a poster for a movie called THE TATTOO.  It's appropriate a poster with a naked girl has an ad for a product called KING'S HONEY.  And if that's not enough, you even get a Thai calendar chart.

There is no ignore feature at this place.  The trivia is interesting, but it would also be interesting to know the source of the info.........

Can I ask anyone who owns both the 50 Year Anniversary Poster book and the Thomas Nixdorf book from '97, if there are any pre '97 posters in the Nixdorf book that aren't in the 50th?

Cheers.

I'm quite amazed at Bruce's results tonight.  Some people really love their Bonds.  I tried to bid on a few things but all of it was beyond my reach.

Yeah, just lost out on a linen three sheet, which went for $540, which is pretty cheap.  But I'm holding out for a cheap linen six sheet, which is the best format IMO:

Top results from the auction, surprised the Dr No one sheet beat the much rarer three sheet:

I think I would have bid more if the Dow Jones had no crumbled today.  Kinda put me in a bad mood all day.

I agree, Mel, I was a bit shocked that the Dr. No one sheet beat out the three sheet. The one sheet isn't too hard to track down on a constant basis, but the three sheet is a rare bird. Looks much better too.

3 sheet vs. 1 sheet quite often comes down to displayability as opposed to an argument on rarity...

The rather hideous US Dr. No posters are relics of 1960s fashion:

You guys are way too hard on the Dr. No.

'Hideous' is a bit outlandish to use here in lieu of adjectives, especially based on some of the chit I have seen on the forum...no offense to anyone in particular, but this one is faaaar from the bottom of the barrel.

No bottom of the barrel Ben, we've all seen -and owned- worst shit than that. The french nailed it perfect with the Dr. No. The design of the US one sheet is great, but there's too much white, the single colored figures and the title looks bland. Probably, the same design with a more clever use of color could have been outstanding...

Must admit to not being aware there was distaste towards the US Dr No 1 Sheet.  Personally, I always thought it was rather nice.

And there should be no accusation of bias because to be sure, I will be front and centre, loudly proclaiming any personal disatisfaction with Bond poster design.

Skyfall, UK Tomorrow Never Dies main quad, UK View Kill main quad....etc.

Design looks lazy to me. Like if they had a military release 1 sheet, and added some background color to Connery and the girls.

Butt-ugly and now lazy?

Respectfully disagree here, Matias.

It's a very good poster. I prefer the quad, small French, and RR Italian paper, but I personally love how with the US campaign they were not really sure what to do with the marketing design of the classic character from the books...like they didn't anticipate how big of a deal the big screen translation to the character would be. Again, its not my favorite, but its much better than most Bond posters. I do prefer the three sheet, btw.

We can respectfully agree to disagree Ben, we're all gentlemen here...

It is possible they were not sure how to market the film, I'll give you that. And probably the fact that I couldn't care less about Bond is an influence in calling the poster butt-ugly and lazy  :D

While not a Bond poster (indeed, slightly off topic) it seemed rather apropos to place this here. I came across this little blurb for an auction that happened on April 11, 2014, by Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions in London:

Dreweatts & Bloomsbury sells 'Casino Royale' first edition for £24,180

Wednesday, 16 April 2014 09:10

"LONDON – A first edition of Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale thrilled bidders again April 11, selling for £24,180 ($40,612) at Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions’ sale of Modern Literature.

The first book in the 007 series, Casino Royale introduced Fleming’s renowned James Bond franchise to the world. Since it was first published on April 13, 1953, the book had been adapted for film three times, and in 2006 it became the 21st film in the Eon Productions film series of the Bond novels, and the film that introduced Daniel Craig as the eighth actor to play the fictional MI6 agent.

Written by Fleming in Jamaica, the book received stellar reviews and the first UK print run sold out in under a month. The dust jacket was designed by Fleming himself and the initial hardcover release was priced at 10s, 6d a copy. This rare first edition Casino Royale is in exceptional condition, and was the first of a complete collection of Fleming’s 007 novels to be offered during the sale. Also from the collection, a first edition of Live and Let Die, (1954), sold for £8,060 ($13,537), and a first edition of Moonraker, (1955) sold for £5,952 ($9,997)."
