Post by: Ari on February 03, 2015, 05:35:21 AM
There's a first time for everything, and this will undoubtable be the last time I ever START one of these,
But anyways, a couple of Aussie Hammer one sheeters found their way home to me today.

Geez Peter...I always love the stuff you pick up.
I think if there was one collection I would love to have instead of my own, it would definitely be yours.
Congratulations on some beautiful pieces...you have some fine taste there!

Err, your green monsters are great too Ari...um, but I hate green...has to be my second least favourite colour after pink.

I seem to have got myself a little obsessed with this movie lately. My collection of 4 Hoffman posters has jumped rapidly to 7 posters, 8 front of house cards and 4 photobustas. Oh well. That's the joy in collecting! Now onto my latest addition. Not strictly a poster, this is original artwork by Tom Chantrell on a rejected idea for the film's poster. Cut up photo and hand drawn type all done on thick hardboard. A nice addition to my poster collection!

Some new release stuff, I have bought older items, but they have not arrived yet...

Two banners, I still think Guardians was the best poster of last year.

Tron Legacy DVD release, 20 x 28". Tron Legacy got a pretty luke warm reception, but I absolutely love it! Really enjoyed the light-cycles scene, so this poster pushed my buttons

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 2, 23 x 33". I'm not a big fan of the books or films, but I like this image

February Mexican posters so far:

"El muchacho alegre" is IMHO some really nice artwork by Espert.  I particularly like the look of the glass bottle and the rumpled fabric of Aguilar's clothing.  You wouldn't guess from the poster that the plot apparently concerns a young man on the run after being falsely accused of murdering his rival for the affections of a wealthy rancher's daughter.  Not very "alegre", know what I'm sayin?

Incidentally, I HAVE A QUESTION (TO THE VOID) for the older, wiser, clever, ever.. poster collectors of this and out of space world: What is the deal with  posters with GREEN FACES? I don't get it. Why having the actor or actress all covered in GREEN? A certain Bogart poster comes to mind too... I don't get it..  girly2.gif

No way! Don't think like that...99% of my collection is very cheap modern stuff. You like what you like and I love seeing what other people collect, so keep contributing!

My first semi-good poster of 2015.  Hopefully there will be more :)  Waiting for the HA catalog.

I've been looking for this one for quite some time, a few years actually, but I couldn't find a mint folded one, which is extremely important to me.  Check that.  Done.

And since I'm at it, super bored as I'm watching my kids play, here are a few more from January.  Collection fillers, mostly.

One for the completest in me.

No art, but just enough to keep it out of the Text Only thread, two tone, basic beyond belief.  But super rare.  For my part, I have only ever seen one come up before and that was at a poorly served Profiles in History auction some years ago.  And that was only after being recently before, made aware of it existence via Adam's Bond Poster site.

Please don't all now come forward and say these things are going for two-a-penny...

It was a bit of a battle.

I had lost out to the one on Profiles because there were connection problems during that auction.  I, and presumably others, couldn't get through so this time I organised a telephone bid.

Then Ewbanks had connectivity problems on the day which meant their auction started late but unfortunately, for me, they decided to start After all their issues were sorted.  On picking it up, the poster chap said the room topped out and the rest of the action went online and tel bidding only.

I had started a new job and my manager was organising meetings with me throughout the day and if her meeting coincided, I was resolved to just say I had a family emergency to not clash.  (One can clearly see my priorities!)  In the end, I was left alone to carry on.

It's funny how everyone sees things differently.  I'm so much more excited about the 400 Blows, which means so much more historically speaking than Salome.  The 400 Blows is a benchmark in movie making.  Salome is just another Hayworth movie.  But it is a Hayworth movie and she is hot, I'll give you that.  I guess we're all a bunch of horny dudes (except for Rosa ;))

Alright, somebody said variety is the spice of life. While you my collection is a lot different than folks, here are some additions from me. Please forgive the bad pictures. I did my best considering these bus shelters are as big as my bed.

I am a little fuzzy on the specifics of these posters however, they are appox. 4 x 6 foot, DS, printed on a very heavy paper, but they also have the .co.uk web address at the bottoms.?.? Since I had a snow day today I opened some packages today.  I also have Bumblebee, but I had already packaged it for storage and did not want to open it again.

Hope you guys don't mind me breaking these big photos up. Two of my favorites from this group!! These two are also on very heavy paper, the Constantine has a bit of damage on the edges, but no major creases throughout. They are both very glossy.

Thank you! So far with the exception of one poster, I have only purchased stuff from my favorite movies, actors, directors, and of course artists. The one I did pick up was for my "spaceship" collection. I have a few for this already, like the crashing Starship Enterprise from Into Darkness. Or lobby card #1 from Close Encounters SE. I wouldn't mind having one of the Earth vs. The Flying Saucers, or the E.T. spaceship version.

The Alba version is the coolest one in that series. I have a couple myself. Double sided and single sided, black and white and colour. One of each.

The new Alba poster for the new film is nowhere near as good as this one.

Mike, will those waves/roll marks naturally fall out and flatten once these are hung or laid out?

Not ever owning a banner, can I ask what material they are made from?

And 10x4 feet! Now that's impressive!

So I can't say 100% since I've not tried yet, but I'm sure if they hung long enough or were laid flat with some weight the waves would at least lessen. In all honesty you can't really see the waves in person, especially on the banners for The Incredibles. It's more the flash of the camera pronouncing them. The Incredibles banners came with dowel rods so that also puts a little stress on the banner to flatten out the rolls (along with its own weight) when hung. The Finding Nemo might be a little trickier since it's wide rather than tall, so not as much self-weight to pull out the waves.

They are made of vinyl and quite sturdy, though they can scuff easily if you're not careful.

Both the size and artwork of the Finding Nemo sold me. I love that the whale was chosen for a 10ft horizontal format and takes up practically the entire banner, and then you've got little Marlin and Dory about the size of its eye. As soon as I saw it I knew I'd have to get it.

I see what you did there.  ;D thumbup

Nice Mike  I just got 4 Character Incredibles Bus Shelters.

So for The Incredibles Banners what I have done is to use a Large Diameter Bus Shelter and rolled them around that as tight as possible and it took care of waves on vinyl. easier than hanging them up too and faster results

I own a few banners but I don't collect them anymore because they're too hard to store and take way too much room.  The marks on the banners can be somewhat softened but they can never totally disappear due to the thickness of the vinyl material.  They're still pretty cool, though.

Nice banners Mike..

If you want the ripples out of banners, I've hung them with some extra weight on the bottom, and turned the space heater on them for a while, not too close mind just close enough to warm them. After 20/30 mins turn it off, but leave the weights on for another 30mins+ until it cools, and they are gone.  I've never unrolled them months after to see if they are still gone, but I would assume so....if I get any others like that, I'll take some pics.

Thanks for the tip about the shelter tube. Got plenty of those lying around and have used that trick before for tightly rolled one sheets.

Definitely take up a bit of space. I keep them rolled either in a tube or box, but for some that are really big with the half-inch tubes on the ends (eg, my Edge of Tomorrow Emily Blunt) you just have to do the best you can keeping them out of the way. Either way, they are cool to have. thumbup

Good advice, I didn't think of that. I could see how a little extra warmth would make them slightly more pliable and then the weight just stretches out the wrinkles. I'll give that a try in the future. Thanks!

Here are a few more for you folks. I will work on better pictures, hard to tell how bad they really are until I upload them hahaha.

This is the first poster I framed. I mentioned previously that I am a huge Resident Evil fan, so I found it appropriate to frame it first.
Just wish I could find a better copy of this one, it has a few condition problems.
Also a big thanks to Robert over at SpotlightDisplays.com for the frame.

These are my first Holofoil posters. I must admit I am impressed, not to mention I feel I got a pretty good deal on them.

I seem to be a fan of these "cast" style posters.

There were a whole lot of people that liked the holofoil when they came out. Revolutions being such a terrible movie has put a damper on the long term outlook, but they still sell well at the right price point.

I own the 4 of them, but I'm not a fan.  Like Dale said, the 2 Matrix sequels killed the Matrix.

I got what I feel was the right price  ;)  I loved the first movie, the second movie was okay, but the third was like wtf just happened?

Don't you have the one with the credits?

Thanks man, I knew I had to have them when I saw them. Then when the price didn't move I was thrilled. I love the King Kong lenticular you have. Are there any other holofoils out there?

Ya theres a Japanese Sin City thats on Hologrpahic Foil and a Fifth Element UK quad...... and as you know theres a plethora of posters with foil elements like the Kill Bill Volume 1 teaser or the Blow Advance and Blow final theatrical, Snow White ....theres a long list of posters with a foil element to them........  and then there are posters printed on mylar like Charlies Angels. Theres a thread about special posters with an added twist on here. I'll send you a link.

I had about 6 from my old job....but as for the rest  hmmm.gif maybe I forgot I had them and kept buying more :)  I couldnt help it actually, I snagged quite a bit on emovie a year or two ago when they were going for under 5 and 10 bucks.  they kept popping up over and over in consecutive auctions then my luck ran out and they shot up to $30.
I gotta stop buying duplicates don't I?

Depends on if you need them for wallpaper. If so I think you need more.
