My early Christmas present to myself.  ¡Ay, Jalisco, no te rajes! with Jorge Negrete made the song of the same name (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C2%A1Ay,_Jalisco,_no_te_rajes!) famous, which was reused in Disney's The Three Caballeros.

I already had one of these but I can't resist a deal, even for a duplicate. And this is one of my favorites by Juanino.

Very nice Bunuel, never seen that before.

The great thing about early Christmas presents to yourself is that there's still time for regular Christmas presents to yourself!

Thanks! I am sure you know more about Mexican cinema than me! I just have a compulsion to buy the posters. Actually I have a few books on Mexican cinema and have read about it, just haven't bothered to watch more than a handful of movies.

For a few years I've been meaning to at least watch some of Buñuel's Mexican films. I am a fan of some of his later films (Belle de Jour, Discreet Charm, etc) so I will get around to the Mexican ones at some point.

A rare (for me) non-Mexican purchase.  I was planning to buy a Mexican poster off of craiglist, only to discover when I got to the seller's apartment that it had been dry-mounted to foamcore (which wasn't evident in the CL listing).  The dry-mounting was a dealbreaker for me, but he was willing to sell me this Tron quad at a good price:

I haven't seen Dolly Bell, but Emir Kusturica is a great director.  When Father Was Away on Business, which won the Palme D'Or at the 1985 Festival de Cannes, is a personal fav of mine.  And I can see that Do You Remember Dolly Bell?, which is his first feature, also won the AGIS award at Venice.  I need to check it out.

Have you ever seen Arizona Dream?  Back in the day I had to buy a region free DVD player to watch it (Studio Canal I think) and I never regretted it!  The film is a bit kooky, but an outstanding cast. And of course I got plenty of use out of the DVD player as well :)

Wow! Wow! WOW!!!!  I always forget when the month changes that the Latest Acquisitions thread also changes and i need to sign up for notifications. At least i remembered EARLY in the month. I mean, today is only the 3rd...but LOOK at how this thread is already exploding with cool stuff!

CHARLIE, that APOCALYPSE NOW is jaw-droppingly gorgeous! OH MY STARS! What a score!

DEKE your haul of Mexican posters is very nice (my favorite being 4 HORAS ANTIS DE MORIR), but I must say your TRON quad knocked my socks off. Stunning!

GINGERMAN Dead & Buried Thai! FABULOUS!!!! And nice job on the CONAN B2

GARGOYLE67 you've got two winners with the STAR WARS 7 and GUARDIANS posters...both very colorful. The STAR WARS is quite the coup though. How did you get it? They are crazy high online and the movie isn't even out yet!

JEDGERLEY I also want to know what size that is? It does look like a door panel? Life sized UMA? oh my! I also dig the abstract SIMPSONS. AWESOME!

STRIPEMAKERS...that's a fascinating ROCKY. Where is it from?

STEVE...Ooooo look at you rockin' it with Baby Spice and the Spice Girls. is this hanging on the ceiling over your bed? The DOLLY BELL looks cute, but I think i like the ELECTRIC DREAMS the best of the three.

THIERRY that is GORGEOUS!!  i INSIST on a LARGER version of the Bardot!  yOWZA!!!  Very nice!!!

I have a bunch of new stuff on my Shock-O-Rama Poster Show thread...i think i've posted like 50 posters in the last few days. Here are 4 of my newly posted random faves.

THE TORTURE CHAMBER OF DR. SADISM (Italian):

Nice poster for a fun movie! Talking about soundtracks: this has a really good one by Giorgio Moroder and Oakley (from Human League). Cheesy synth pop, but very cool. It made my day when i listened to it now - 80's comedy end title track, at its best:

I listened to it on the radio yesterday, bought back so many memories.

When i was a kid on friday nights we would listen to the local radio and phone in requests.
I remember one night calling up and requesting they play Electric Dreams with a dedication to a girl I "loved" (Hi Sara).

Paul, Neo picked my two faves too. I'm not a STAR WARS fan, but the art work on the poster is very nicely done.

And.,.Oooo another KRAMPUS poster, I do want to see that movie!  Is the poster drawn like the first teaser poster (which i LOVE) or is it a photoshop creation...or a mixture of both?

That Star Wars presents nicely as a Quad. Anyone want to trade a quad for a one-sheet  ;D

Anyone seen this actually on paper? I got a few this week, didnt think this style was actually made in one-sheet size.

Thanks Neo, The chew was the posters are supposed to be sent back, (orders from Disney). which meant there was only two (extras) to be shared out between 5 working there. The guy I know who is one of the managers said he was having one for me, which caused the others to kick off about it, culminating in one of them complaining to the area Manager, who said no one was getting any, they were all being sent back..  One has been filtered out as you can see.   ;)

All petty stuff, seems like this film has everyone in a frenzy....

Oh, and the other Krampus  is a Banner, 5'x8'.

The whole Morrie collection was truly a thing to behold.

While waiting as a telephone bidder on Part 2, I was talking to Joe Moe, my contact, and he was saying just to be in the presence of it all and to handle it was a real privilege.  He was talking briefly about the guy who had the task of grouping cards into auction lots that would sell.  Clearly in the case of the Saint cards I was interested in, they all went into one lot, but there were other lots that were looser in their compilation.  Multiple lots of Sherlock for example that, as a whole, were just tremendous.

Oh to have been a previously frustrated and presently wealthy Sherlock fan at that point...

This film is definitely something to see.  Robert Blake is great in it and it's a nice testament to how cool a little independent film can be.  The director's heart was all in for this one.

Lots of underbidder stories from yesterday.  I was the second underbidder on the Reservoir Dogs Cannes poster, but decided I could get the B1 with the same art for cheaper.  And because I had a total I did not want to exceed for the auction, and this one had been on my list for a long time:

Snagged this one as well:

Yeah it would all make sense if ya saw the two episodes above.
Just saying jump on the bus and join the rest. But seriously In the above posts I was only saying if you ever were to watch one start with Star Wars from 1977. The first one out....its episode "4" out of 9 movies total.

Or just watch Spaceballs and That would be like using Cliffnotes :)

Have a good day/night/week!

Thanks Jason! I get it. Incidentally... I went out with my friends and two of them paid over £80.00 to watch the latest film in the "Secret Cinema". Has anyone here gone to this?

I think this is more Like being part of a community thing, a secret club or something rather than another cinematic experience. So now we know, there are those who "get it" and those who dont!

Hmm i havent quite heard of secret cinema. The theatre must need some extra cash. I have a couple friends that went and saw it for theatre staff and friends at midnight when the time locks open on the reels. But they didnt pay. I used to run advance screenings for critics and promotional/audience exit surveys. That was fun cuz it didnt feel like work and i was getting to see the movies early and paid to do so. And I got to give away free stuff depending on the studio and movie. Anyways rambling on i just bought a star wars poster this morning. Ill post soon
Over and out-

To me, 90% of collecting is about the chase, and when I say 90%, I actually mean 100% since I put the posters away, never to be seen again, as soon as I receive them.

This one had been on my list for years.  I wanted a mint folded copy.  It is one of my favorite Bardot posters.  And by Grinsson too, who I also collect.  My last "big" purchase of the year.  The rest will probably be cheap modern stuff.

The cool thing about it is what someone views as the "best" is not always the most expensive.  Both of your wins from the EMP major are great.   cool1

I'm pretty darn stoked about these 2 wins.  They are extremely rare, and from one of the best ad campaigns for a newer movie.

I acquired them from AgentOrange, aka he_wants_revenge_18 on eBay, who has some great posters for newer films.  He is very knowledgeable, and is a good guy to deal with.
http://www.ebay.com/usr/he_wants_revenge_18?_trksid=p3984.m1435.l2754 (http://www.ebay.com/usr/he_wants_revenge_18?_trksid=p3984.m1435.l2754)

As I was looking at the eMovie auction history database, I saw the sunset quad and thought it is really rad.  At about the same time, AgentOrange and I were chatting about stuff from the A24films store and Spring Breakers, and he mentioned that he had an extra sunset quad for sale, and we made a deal on it, so that was cool.  8)  Anyway, here they are:

Got these 2 tonite...

I already own a few folded Raiders and just decided that a rolled one was needed in my always growing Spielberg collection.  And Bus Stop, well, I'm starting a Marilyn collection.  A little late in the game since there are so many complete and amazing collections out there, but we all have to start somewhere.  I already own a dozen pieces and intend to own a few more by this time next year.  This is what this hobby is all about.  Start small and grow.  We shall see.

A bunch of very nice pickups Paul. I am really tempted to see the Warcraft movie as a former WoW junky but don't know if it is going to be worth it. Hard to tell at this point.

Looks like a good movie.

It comes out in January, so the answer is no.

It's a crazy company to work for.  Once you're in, you're king, but getting in is insanely difficult.  My wife had done 12 years at DreamWorks, straight out of Michigan, and she still had to go through 5 layers of interviews and an 8 hour home computer test where she basically had to program and animate stuff.  Now she's in and they're loving her, but it was a tough one.  They recently bought Candy Crush maker King for $5.9 billion, which makes them the 2nd largest video game company in the world.

You're kidding, right?  I will assume you are, but just in case...  January and September are and have always been the studios' graveyards.  When I was at Disney and DreamWorks, we always knew we had a bomb if it got released in those months.

Whatever does not get traction as an academy award contender before December 31st is released in January.  February is a little better, but not by much.  Good for animated movies like Lego or the upcoming KFP3.  March is when things become slightly interesting.

Same with September.  Whatever doesn't fit in the blockbuster summer schedule is dumped in September.  October is the beginning of Oscar season.

I think most movie studios release most of the money makers is towards the end of the year. But regardless all pickups are all great.

Great insight here.  Makes sense... So are the really bad ones also held until after the oscars not to trip up a nominee?  I remember 'The Other Woman' being held until after 'Black Swan' for Portman although I think it was made way early in 2010...

Title: Re: December 2015

Mistakes have been made in the past.  The most recent I can think of is Norbit, which came out in early February and killed Eddie Murphy's chances to win an Oscar for Dreamgirls.

The only time a good movie comes out in January is when it has a run in busy December (to qualify for the Academy Awards) and its national release is postponed to the quieter January.  That happens all the time.  American Sniper came out on December 25 in selected cities but was officially released January 16.  Same with Still Alice, released on the 16 of January after a week trial at the beginning of December.

What T said. End of year is Oscar fair and family blockbuster type releases. April - August is teener-young adult popcorn push. April is fairly new to the big budget releases, that used to be a crap dump month as well. Sept/Oct is dead zone and non-oscar overflow Jan/Feb are as well.

Yeah, I vaguely remember you mentioning something like this around the time Guardians of the Galaxy was released, and you thought it would be lame, based on the release date.

As y'all mentioned, the trends of the statistics, tactics for awards, etc., for release dates are interesting, but personally, I generally reserve judgment.

Been looking for this daybill for quite a while (2 years+)...

For some reason I almost never seem to hit the monthly new arrivals section that often. I was on here earlier this month--but that is it. Seeing as how i plan to severely limit my time on APF in 2016 (just maybe one visit per month is the plan) and being that I have had an amazing poster purchasing month, even though i usually only post on my own collection thread, I have picked 5 more to share (and limiting it to only 5 was difficult). I hope you like them since I tend to have schlocky taste.

Haven't posted in a while but i managed to get my hands on some posters i really wanted for a while now, they are nothing special compared to what most of you have but i'm happy about it;)
1) hatefull 8 teaser
2) dark knight why so serious (completes the trilogy:D)
3) secret life of walter mitty (film really touched me and overall loved it, except the skiing in manhattan and some other daydream parts. Even though the poster is just OK i really wanted it)
4) lotr fellowship of the ring (first one of the trilogy)
5) little miss sunshine (nice poster that will brighten up the place + fav movie of my gf)

So i'm very happy this month even though i burned through my poster budget for december:p i'm still a bit worried about the batman poster though, given the amount of bootlegs going around but the guy seems to be a real collector and seems honest. I will post some pics soon

I was going to wait for next month but wanted to share these two now. Both are UNICORNS with a capital U and the rest of the letters for that matter. I was not actually actively looking for either one, they just popped up so count myself very lucky to get them. I had admittedly been looking on and off for the second poster for 20+ years.

The first is one of three white title studio Return of the Jedi one sheets that I am aware of. Like the others this one is actually a proof though sadly someone cut the bar off of it. There is also a much more common NSS version that I know of 25-30 copies of. Both styles NSS and studio to the best of my knowledge did not go out to theaters.

The second poster is actually an unauthorized print made in 1981 to celebrate Mardi Gras in New Orleans and in my opinion is one of the coolest posters of Yoda I have ever seen.

I will do a more lengthy write up on both in the SW section at some point.

I don't post much either as I never shoot photos for a long time, (I shoot collection stuff when I really have no other pressing work, and right now, I had way too much pressing work) however I did get some items - rare things - that I hope to shoot pics of soon that I am positive will be enjoyed here, like a Martian Chronicles poster that has never been seen to my knowledge

okay.. it's somewhere in here
in the single rolled stuff on the table with the boxes at left.

but hey.. I can make something for December!
almost every poster in the room is a 'recent acquisition' everything in front of you, to the left & to the right.
all the boxes on the floor of which you only see some as they're piled under the table also. everything on that rolling cart in front of the shelf AND everything that's on the shelf that you can't see.
however, the boxes on top of that shelf are only empties

ps: I still have about 20% of the material to bring back!

it is great isn't it fellas?

Original Simon Bisley painting on the back of what was said to me by the seller "Bisley's jacket"

I never had an opportunity to ask him

it's hanging there as it sold and I need to pack it up & ship it out!

ps: those are pulps in the boxes on top of that shelf
