Cheers!

When the first acquisition of March appears, you can bless & knight that person, especially since you pulled the same "no new poster" stunt and commentary to start the Feb 2016 thread..  qip

okay. Fine.

Here:

CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST:

Well, hooray! I've wanted one of these for ages. The photo is kind of cropped, but not the poster. Another to cross off my list. I paid a little more than i wanted to (but isn't that the case these days? Geez, when did poster prices jump? There's nothing cheap any more).  Now if I can only get a 2F Italian CANNIBAL FEROX in good condition and less than I've seen others out there for sale...that would pretty much do it for my cannibal film poster collection. Hmm.

See... that wasnt so hard, was it??  ;)

And bravo on the poster pickup, too.

From the various posters Ive seen for this flicker, it looks like a real, cult doozie (SFX not excluded).

Agreed. The current financial  market and a weaker pound is my problem. Likely  nothing I really really really want has come up at an unreasonable  price but certainly  a bit more pricey.

Ahhh, sorry, it is a different film with Marisa Mel.

Here is the perspective of the film from a member:

That Stuntman you have listed is not the Peter O'Toole one, but a 1968 turkey instead.  Totally different film.

Can't find my APF post, actually, haven't tried as will be too hard so here is a 2f same design on the web:

I see among just a few of the differences (ahem..) is that there is no gap or space between your Stunt and your Man.

I think these posters I just received are pretty neat.  They are from the Cultural Program of the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.  Among theater, dance, music, poetry, and other cultural events and performances, the 1968 Olympics also hosted a film festival.

Here are a couple posters advertising "El Cine Japones" (Japanese Cinema) and "El Cine Cientifico" (Scientific Cinema) respectively.  I like the artwork quite a bit. It has a very 60's hippie vibe to it, while also being reminiscent of art nouveau. The artist for both posters is David Palladini.

Great score!

Got this one hanging next to my Virginia Rappe lobby card, I'm hoping they don't spontaneously combust.  Probably a '20sR for the 1918 Fatty Arbuckle film, (with Buster Keaton, referred to as "Malec" on the poster), for The Cook:

This stunning 1923 WC for Circe, the Enchantress was apparently saved from the ravages of time by being placed in the back of a picture frame in 1927.  Never seen a 90+ year old piece of paper quite like it.

Been after a Farina card for a long time.  In spite of the condition I'm quite happy with this TC for 1923 Stage Fright:

I hate to tell you what he sold for low money before I saw them.
he finally chatted me by phone & I foolishly gave him honest info and then he raised his price on me
once he lowered it to 500, I figured I would make him an offer. he'd had it out for so long at 750 he probably hurt himself

Hello all, Sorry I haven't been around much. I started work again a few days ago.....been a while since I had to do "work work"...haha time off made me soft. This looks like a great month so far. I really love how everybody does their own thing, but shares it here. You guys are great, and ladies!
I wont be around to post this for a few days, so I am just gonna drop a link. I have been after this one since I first started collecting, been outbid numerous times. Let several of them go for condition or linen issues....but finally, what I feel is a good price, and great condition I have the Colossus of New York and the beautiful Mala Powers in my collection. I was aiming on a future collection of 50s inserts..featuring monster/girl mashups..but I couldn't pass this one sheet up.

A few of my March pick-ups. I'm usually pretty horror-centric, but it's been a good couple of weeks for classic 80's comedy on EMP, so I switched gears...

Heathers

It is decent.  It is more or less a Better off Dead prequel, but not nearly as good as better off dead.  If you are a fan of those 2, it is definitely worth watching.

yeah.. one insert comes up and sells for $49
another one comes up and sells for $49
another one comes up and sells for $39

all BIN

I need that poster, so now I have it that ebay search is a tab that opens up when I start the browser

another seller posts one and before I see it, it sells for $19
now I'm watching harder
another #*&%@* sells for $29

I'm getting seriously pissed off now
another sells
another sells

9 copies of this damned insert sold by 2 separate sellers on two separate coasts and I missed every damned one

and each time I can't be missing them by minutes.. so I contact the guy. too late.. all gone, he doesn't know anything about the other guy.

of the 9, 4-5 were bought by one dealer...
I have no clue how he did it
 2 were bought by another
ebay search notices don't go out that fast

very irritating

^ maybe they used software to detect if the seller added new items. I was using an app only days ago which finally advised me a change to a web page occurred which was a cost change on a web page but can be configured to detect any change on the web page. I set it to check every 1 minute and it even checks pages that first need you to login

Better Off Dead is one of the more underrated comedies of the 1980's, definitely worth checking out if you've never seen it. The paper, in VG or F, is pretty high on my ISO list.

Damn. I've narrowly lost out on my fair share of BIN deals where I was hours or minutes too slow, but 9 in a row? Frustrating. Surely the 10th time will be the charm. Good luck!

I have to also put in a plug for The Sure Thing.  It's not the same wacky humor of Better Off Dead and One Crazy Summer (both written/directed by Savage Steve Holland), but is also a great movie if you are in the mood for some 80's Cusack.

I would agree Better Off Dead is just a classic. "I want my two dollars", "French fries, French dressing, French bread", the hamburger singing Van Halen, so many magic moments.

One Crazy Summer is a tier below, but still perfectly watchable.

This is a terrible photo, but such a cool looking poster.
After picking up the Halloween Double Crown last month I went looking for the other 3 Halloween DC's. I found this Lovely DC from Ghostbusters. I had not seen this one before. Has anybody else seen this before? It reads, Friendly health warning, ghostbusting can seriously damage your sanity.  Looks like a pack of smokes to me!

I love the look on her face!!!!

I actually found a few pretty cool Nightmare on Elm Street Double Crowns...but no more Halloweens yet....

The Double Crown is half of a Quad....so 20x30. I actually think this is another Marler Haley printed poster. Getting absolutely no where on this theory though. I think her face is my favorite part of the poster. During the time in the film when she was possessed!

US HS for Death On the Nile (1978)

Art by Richard Amsel

I've always like ancient Egyptian art and designs, (I was fascinated with King Tut's tomb as a kid), so this poster art always grabbed my eye. Plus the movie has such a good, ensemble cast.

Nice pickup, Jeff. I always wished they would have done more Hercules Perot (as played by Peter Ustinov) movies.  I liked DEATH ON THE NILE the best of the three, even though MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS was a bigger hit. EVIL UNDER THE SUN seemed like a much lesser venture...budget-wise as well as everything else. It was just okay.  But the poster you got is nice. CHEERS!
Title: Re: March 2016
Post by: erik1925 on March 17, 2016, 05:34:54 PM
Thanks, Shawn.

And yeah..it would have been great for them to do a couple more with Ustinov as Perot. He was so good in that part. The key is a great cast, each character clearly defined and unique (as well as script and budget, too).

GOOD LORD Shawn you are a busy bee, always hunting, that Munsters Go Home looks like a comic book. But...the question is: Yvonne de Carlo? as the real Yvonne de Carlo? She was quite a well known actress in the 50s.. i just cant figure her out in this role  :) :)

Oh my stars, Rosa!  Have you NEVER SEEN "THE MUNSTERS" TV show? What a wonderful old show and, YES, THE Yvonne DeCarlo is in it as Lily Munster...daughter of Count Dracula (better known as "Grandpa"), married to Frankenstein's monster and has a werewolf son. She also has a god-awful ugly niece (who resembles Marilyn Monroe...at least, i believe that is what the producers were going for) that is sort of the black sheep of the family. And they have a pet dragon named Spot that lives under the stairs. Heck, the theme song alone is worth the trouble to watch the show. Crazy cool, man!

I also had this arrive today.

It's the US HS for the 1978 animated version of Lord of the Rings, directed by Ralph Bakshi. I think the art is incredible and was done by the very talented Tom Jung.

As a little side note to my earlier post. I noticed the two NSS numbers for these movies. Death on the Nile is NSS 780107 and LOR is NSS 780108. So they were released one after the other, that year. Just a random, "what are the odds" comment of going for 2 posters that were in the "release line" this way.  8)

Ha! How funny about the NSS numbers---good eye!  LORD OF THE RINGS is a great poster---epic. My brother briefly got into the poster hobby when we were kids and he had the one sheet for this--not sure which style though. Maybe both? I'm sure he's long forgotten about them and I believe I have them mixed in with my stuff somewhere....

It surprised me, too, when I saw that the NSS numbers were in sequential order. Nothing more than one of those little, "off the wall" poster side-factoids, I guess.   pcorn

In the scheme of things on the show, it worked. Here, I found an episode on YouTube. The whole series is there apparently, but the framing is all off. But check it out anyway---at least through the groovy theme song:

But wow! That Italian poster for the first Ilsa is FANTASTIC!  I must track one down. Zowie! Thanks for sharing!

Interesting looking art on this one, TW, with the large Hitler profile. It almost has elements of some of those WWII propaganda posters (the upper half of the poster, I mean). The artist, Crovato created a statement here, that's for sure.

yeah it is quite a beautiful looking film! im sure you know its a spin on snow white?
the movie ran into distribution problems in a lot of countries because of the bull fighting scenes, yes REAL bull fighting! :(
so there really isnt too much paper for the movie. the quad is a digital print, which means it was printed in really quite low numbers, how many exactly i wouldnt like to guess?
pity the top corner is missing as its other wise in quite nice shape.

i have to say that the condition of the ilsa 2F is quite rough, but i think it was worth the $150 i paid for it. i honestly never thought i would buy one of them ever, as they usually go way to high for me to buy one and not look at it and say "ARGGHHH i paid XXXXXX dollars for that" i have paid to highly for other things in the past although not posters . and all i see is a massive waste of hastily spent cash haha.

well as of yet i dont own any of the 1 sheets for ilsa, and not overly bothered about buying on either. the only one i actually want now is that japanese and then im pretty much set!
although would also quite like the soggettone but again not overly bothered about owning one.

thanks y'all haha not often i post things that people actually like :)

Argentine stone litho OS for La Noche de Venus (1955), with the lovely Ivana Kislinger.

When I first saw this image (before I bought it), I thought it might be offset, or even manipulated photos of the 2 actors. It's neither. I've added a C/U of Kislinger's face to try and show that the images are all created artwork. Not sure if it will show or not.

What I found interesting is that the printer, Guzman, Lavalle y Cia placed what looks similar to a US NSS number, on the lower right corner (230/55).

Very interesting, Jeff, but my eyes are drawn to something else that I find much more interesting.

i COMPLETELY understand! its a difficult subject to broach, especially now i have quite a few. i hasten to add i am COMPLETELY against the ethos of nazism. so much so i have been on anti-fash demonstrtions and fought with them on a couple of occasions. although i should say not for a few years as i am no longer a youngster.
but i am fascinated by the fact these posters were made for public consumption. so as i child i could have gone to the cinema to see star wars and seen those posters for ilsa in the lobby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
to me that idea is so alien i find incomprehensible. even though british posters were never as racey as iltalian or french posters.

I never thought you were pro Nazi.  I guess we all collect different things, which is fine.  It just has no appeal to me, and I find it extremely offensive.  Maybe we should put all these in a different thread, its own thread.  Or maybe it's just me being too much of a delicate flower.

Just received this little guy from our buddy Bigmike.  My first on the title, and hopefully not the last.  It did carry a little extra weight for being folded.  All the other versions were LB.

Thanks Jeff, I'm really happy with them.  For the most part the image sides are in really good shape (just the All You Need is Kill has significant damage) but on a lot of them the back sides show the effects of the "wavy tri-fold".  I was really surprised by the different types of paper as well... some are glossy, some are matte, some are on a very thin (almost see through) paper weight.

I so wanted the 1sht.  It usually sells for up to $7k, but for some reasons the one yesterday ended at $12k.  I had to throw in the towel and jumped on the next best thing, which I kind of overpaid for, but that's the nature of the beast.  All of this from my phone, in my car, driving on the freeway.  Glad I didn't get too emotional.

And she's not going to be at home for quite a while.  HA usually holds my packages for a long time so I can save on shipping.  Maybe I'll get all this by the end of summer.

Japanese posters are cool and very easy to store.  Especially B2s.  Just stack them up on top of each other and watch the pile grow.  Once you get the bug, you can't stop, I'm a living example of that.

The thing is..I lost yesterday. I am not sure if I  should cry or actually be thankful. I might even sound pathetic but I  woke up feeling totally paper drained. Exhausted.

I really went to the mattress to get this poster. I have been saving for years, and bidded what for my pocket was a huge amount. And for a nano second I was The winning bidder and then..before I knew it the poster was...Gone with the Wind....

Has this ever happened  to anyone? Sort of handover post bidding....I  am not sure if  I am sad I lost it...or...glad all that money is still in my bank  account....

So you bid on the GwtW poster that ended at 19k?  Seems a little high.  $15k is what I would have valued it at if I had been on the buyer side.  But then again I valued Laura at $7k (what I was willing to bid) and it sold for $12k.  It seems the classics sell well.

I only get upset if I miss out on something I should have bought, but if something goes for something that I deem too high, then I feel sorry for the buyer and happy that I didn't get caught in a bidding war.  He can have his $17k GwtW.  You will get it for $14k some other time.  Have faith.  It will show up again.

ROSA and T...BOTH  of you will find better, cheaper copies of GWTW and the LAURA  one sheets eventually. The HA auction prices were just insane....way above etimated prices in many cases. I think these quarterly auctions draw a bigger audience and prices than the regular auctions. These same posters at other times of the year don't go nearly as high. That being said, of course, I spent too much on the 2 posters I got. One was a bucket list poster....the other wasn't even on my radar...I just tuned in at the wrong time and got caught up. Ooops! But you WILL get your posters eventually.

These same posters at other times of the year don't go nearly as high.

Unfortunately, there is no other times of the year.  It's HA signature or bust.  There is a reason Emovie has only sold 4 Lauras ever and no GwtW.  They only show up at major major auctions.  Cheaper, for sure.  But Rosa will have to be patient, and so will I.

Shawn, the point is you got them & now they are yours. That's all that matters. I'm sure they will fit in with your collection nicely.

Congrats on the 2 wins again.

I only get upset if I miss out on something I should have bought, but if something goes for something that I deem too high, then I feel sorry for the buyer and happy that I didn't get caught in a bidding war.  He can have his $17k GwtW.  You will get it for $14k some other time.  Have faith.  It will show up again.

fuckballs!  14K !  Dear God!  Rosa!

I was just a watcher in the wings, this weekend, but congrats, T, on your wins here. Sweet pickups, they are.

And still under budget...  thumbsup.gif

Well, not really if you count La Dolce Vita, but close enough :)

Yes..I stopped  nearly at the end of the bidding ...the cut bid option was helping  for a second....anyway... it really took me a while to accept it.... but it is gone ...need to give my mind a rest...

Laura went for more than i expected. The insert didn't sell a couple of years ago....

Boy  this hurts....

Rosa, another one will cross your path, I'm sure of it. Hopefully it will be cheaper than this one. Good thing about this hobby is that something else will come up that you desire and take the pain away on this loss.

I'm with T on this one, seems a little bit expensive to me, also the Laura 1sheet was a crazy price. That's a poster I desire but there's no way I'm getting involved when it hits those numbers.

Thanks! It's really simple in each of its elements, but takes a minute to take them all in to realize the whole... and it all works so well.

Yeah man, picked it up from Wolfgang at KinoArt. It was a little more than I wanted to pay for it, but it's the best one I'd seen, so I decided to pounce on it. If it helps, it's in a good home  :) If I see another one I'll be sure drop you a line.

Thanks for those examples, T. Awesome work for sure.

As for the film, it's definitely worth a watch. I'm partial to it because it's one of the first R-rated/horror films that I saw in a movie theater as a kid. My mom dropped me and a few of my cousins off to see something else, and we snuck and saw Critters instead. Memories...

well picked up a few cheapies recently, some from a somewhat slipshod seller from france who seems to be unable to tell the difference between different size posters!
but after a little back and forth we came to an amicable situation.
heres some of those things.
this poster isnt what i would usually go for, but i liked the nice clean graphic.
60x80
(http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah159/teamweaponss/IMG_1060%201_zpsodpdx569.jpg) (http://s1379.photobucket.com/user/teamweaponss/media/IMG_1060%201_zpsodpdx569.jpg.html)

this 60x80 has really quite crude illustration but i also quite like it in an odd way?
(http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah159/teamweaponss/IMG_1065_zpsymieydos.jpg) (http://s1379.photobucket.com/user/teamweaponss/media/IMG_1065_zpsymieydos.jpg.html)

this 60x80 i have no idea what the movie is like but love the design of this! although i think i will try to track down between miracles as it sounds pretty good!

this photobusta [i dont really buy many] but is on REALLY thick linen type material? as i dont have many im not sure if this is normal or not? but it hasnt been linen backed. it has been manufactured on it? its in pretty nice shape too, i like rodan quite a bit as well :)

a rather weird and bland italian 1sheet for exorcist. not very interesting except for how ugly it is. i couldnt leave it there for 5 euros though!
