Heritage bidding reality
« on: October 16, 2013, 03:15:38 AM »
Folks - apologies for the hopelessness of questions, but can't find anything on the boards to help.

1. Does Heritage work the same way as ebay for its Internet-only auctions in that, one can place a bid within the last few seconds and it will go through?  I ask as it advises Not to use its Batch bidding within the last hour(!) and am wondering if this affects the per-poster bidding as well.

2. Is there a recommended sniping program to help out here?  Their auctions finish at 4am Mondays, UK time, and I am right in the middle of sleep then.

3. What are people's experience of Batch bidding?

4. Regarding their signature auctions, am I right in thinking the Internet side of things closes down earlier than the end of the auction, at which point, one then has to get plugged into Live auctions, via telephone, physical presence and yes, their live internet service?

I have asked questions of Heritage but I have yet to have an email back from them.  The last thing I asked was if they had an app for android.  Just a simple Yes / No.  Nothing.

Many thanks in anticipation.

For their Signature auction you need to be logged in. So yes, it requires you to be awake...just check when your posters are due ..the slot ...and enjoy !!

....it is fun though I hate the waiting .....last time I ended up  opening a bottle of Port at 4.30am....and had a glass...or two...or did I have three or the whole l :)ot  ?

Fair play - guess that IS the way to make a morning of it.

Thinking I will be looking forward to work, hammered and haggard.

And the normal, non-Signature auctions?  Like ebay?

Simes

to bid on Heritage Sunday night auctions, use Gavelsnipe.com
I use it, Sean Linkenback uses it. I'm sure lots of people here use it

default snipe time is 20 second and I don't believe you can change that

you can of course use it for Signature auctions, but it can't get a 20 second snipe in because those auctions are closed manually

Thanks again for the suggestion sir.

Have set up and all seems very user friendly.

I have noticed for something on ebay.com, that for me (in the UK), Gavelsnipe seems to think the item is being auctioned on ebay.co.uk.  Am sure it is nothing to be concerned about, but just as a point to be raised.

Anyway, thankfully now, this Sunday night into Monday morning will not be broken into at both 2am and 4am!  Mirosae's port suggestions notwithstanding...

you're welcome buddy.
It works great and as long as you can live with the 20 sec bit on ebay it works there also.

have fun...

You can change that setting in My Account / My GavelSnipe Preferences. You get a warning if you go lower than 20 Seconds but mine is set to 5 and always works a treat.

And coincidentally, I have just had a response to the App question.  Apparently, they are indeed developing an app for Android.

Actually you only have to stay up long enough to enter your bids into the Heritage Live/Proxy server and then you can go to bed.
When you launch Heritage Live, it will pull up all the listings/lot numbers and the current high bid. Next to that is a field where you can enter your bid. Press the "bid live proxy" button and you will get a bid accepted notice and you are done! Don't even have to keep Heritage Live running once you have that notice, but it is fun to watch the auction.

So does that mean that any time an auction is won, it is like Christmas Day all over again?

Toasting and toasted....

I like that concept.  ;D

Classic song but that guy in the middle was annoying, someone should've removed his Maracas then maybe he would've stood still
