Just found this one on a french postcard... no posters, but a pretty amazing one-off display for Lady from Shanghai!

Island of Lost Souls is fantastic (as a movie too).  And I especially like Bela having 2nd billing

Can't get over how cool those display panels/signs are. Has anything like these survived??

I've seen a couple in the last 10 years at random antique shops.  They usually are on plywood and are a collage of cut up poster pieces (often from 3 sheets) and hand painted accents and lettering.

Never a title worth drooling over, and I felt they were too hard to store and would be unsellable, so I passed both times.

I recently stumbled across a book of "then and now" type pictures of the little city where I live.  Here was the interesting part....

I bet that Wild Party billboard would be worth a pretty penny today!

Not even close.  In the front row alone you see a truck with dump bed (can't see brand), a Ford Model A roadster sedan (4 door) and a Dodge coupe.  In the background I see coupes, 2 door roadsters, sedans etc.  Harder to tell models.

You asked someone from then and they would tell you that todays cars all look like the same chunk of melted clay.

Interesting to see so many cigarette ads!  This was a mill-town back in the day - aka damn near indentured servitude for most of the working class folks.  You can even see the trolly tracks on the right.  They ran from downtown direct to the mills outside the city.  It makes sense that people might have simply been hoping for a quick movie break and a damn cigarette!

Great pic Matt.   Now quick hop in your Model A, run up those stairs and pull some of those down!

The south was (and is) a heavy tobacco producing area of the country... so maybe that's why the large number of ads?

For a later, RR showing (1940s?) of Frankenstein and Dracula.

A locally/theater made poster ad, it looks like. The photo used of Bela looks like a shot of him from The Raven and Karloff is from Bride of Frankie

Im liking that giant die cut head of Karloff hanging above, on the marquee, too (as well as the costume and makeup!).  thumbsup.gif

They played together on double bills in 38, as this sparked the second cycle of Universal Monster films, and going off the write-up "first time together" looks like it could be one of those showings.

Nice find Jeff.
