The movies on the painted billboards from Hong Kong are by the way SPIRITUAL TRINITY (人鬼神) and SEA WOLVES (海狼).

There is a tumblr --- http://movieinmovie.tumblr.com/ devoted to screen caps
of film scenes where the actors are watching classic movies or movie posters are seen
in the background.
You can easily scan their archive of thumbnails if you want to zero in on poster use.
http://movieinmovie.tumblr.com/archive
I thought we had a thread devoted to this sort of thing, but I can't find it.
So, maybe this 'posters in action' thread will do for now.

A picture of the Mayfair Theatre in Detroit, MI, in June, 1943.

Ongoing race riots in the auto plants there are the reason for the overturned, burning car, but the theater marquee shows that Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man is playing. It looks like various lobby cards and posters are also on display, but the photo is a bit too wide to zoom in and see them clearly.

unfortunately i couldn't find watermarkless versions of the images, but here's two of one of my absolute favorite movies: 'swing time'.

the cinema by the way is in paris, though they've got not one, but two US one sheets on display along with some stills, and pretty cool window decoration.

This isn't a poster obviously and i never knew it was a film till i got back.
I just thought it was some cool Graffiti in Bangkok. I have the film now but I've yet to watch.
It had me laughing as it was like 3am and i was completely lost!

Photography is my other hobby and a friend sent me this link to a new documentary on Vivian Maier.

http://www.findingvivianmaier.com/

I had heard of her but never got around to looking through her work in earnest.  This second link is to her primary reference site, it's amazing.  If you are at all interested in street photography you should check it out.  Really amazing stuff for being more-or-less totally unknown until after her death.

http://www.vivianmaier.com/

From the movie synopsis:
Quote
Finding Vivian Maier is the critically acclaimed documentary about a mysterious nanny, who secretly took over 100,000 photographs that were hidden in storage lockers and, discovered decades later, is now among the 20th century’s greatest photographers. Directed by John Maloof and Charlie Siskel, Maier’s strange and riveting life and art are revealed through never before seen photographs, films, and interviews with dozens who thought they knew her.

Maier’s massive body of work would come to light when in 2007 her work was discovered at a local thrift auction house on Chicago’s Northwest Side. From there, it would eventually impact the world over and change the life of the man who championed her work and brought it to the public eye, John Maloof.

Why am I posting in this thread, you ask?  While perusing her images I found the following.  It's from her color self-portrait series and that's her framing Warren Beatty :)
