It's official.  I just shelled out the most ever for a single poster (by a huge margin).  I have other posters that might be considered more valuable, but I probably spent a third as much on them.  Yikes... I'm still kind of jittery about the whole thing.  I won on my max bid using the LIVE system.  That red button is going to be in my nightmares now...

Anyway, say hello to my new piece of paper:

Get Carter -- special 1-sheet, NM+ rolled

What did you all bid on or win?

By the way, this is kind of a momentous occasion for me if you couldn't tell.  It was my first "signature auction" win.  Please PM me if you have a copy of the catalog that you don't need... Thanks!

Congrats on the win, Harry   Didn't win anything in this session, but I was watching it on Heritage Live.  Highly doubt I'll be bidding on anything, just watching what transpires

There were a few pieces that had at least a couple of people going after them hard.  Pretty fun to watch

Tell me about it.  That was about 5 times as much as my first car.  :o  I've wanted this one since I started collecting though, and considering it is rolled and NM+ it is probably impossible to find a nicer copy.  Still, I'm not even sure if I'm happy I won yet... maybe that means I shouldn't be spending this much money on a poster!

Stay tuned for my super poster sale extravaganza... I'm going to have to pay for this somehow!

It's a nice one, to be sure Harry.

I tried for the belle et la bette but was beaten by a lot.  It went for $1750 or so.
Best regards,

This is better than most stuff on TV.  I love watching the dollars fly.

Why does the auctioneer look like he is a substitute teacher in some junior high?

Wish I could see a camera angle of who is on the floor as they bid.  Reality TV at its finest!

I agree. That was fun to watch.

Wish I had the cash some of you guys have. I would have kept the bidding going and tried to grab that Italian Good Bad Ugly for $6000 and the Japanese Fistful of Dollars for $900. It is nice to have fantasies  :P

Sweet Get Carter!

Great stuff Harry.  You have to love the condition on that one.  I only got one this time, though there were a few others I was interested in.  I had to keep pretty quiet on this auction due to budgetary concerns, where normally i might have gone crazy.  I did pick up this country of origin piece from my favorite Leone film though :-)

I think mine is going to cost more to frame than yours................

That is my favorite poster from OUATITW!  And what a great price!  If you basically paid $150 over the cost of having it backed.

Can you believe how (comparatively) little the Metropolis insert sold?!  It went for only $48K... I was for sure expecting $100K+.

They talked about the Metro final price on MoPo and consensus is: no Maria = less $

I don't really agree that size is the explanation - didn't a Freaks insert go for over $100,000?

It's the lack of Maria and MAYBE it had a crapload of restoration that was obvious up close...

Exactly how much is "a crapload"?

puke2

And was it described well in the grading, and what grade did it receive?

Due to my frugal behaviour the last three months I've added a few of my favorites.

This rather rare, though not very attractive, halfsheet for Peeping Tom for my Michael Powell collection:

This rather lovely French 47x63 of Mr Arkadin for my Orson Welles collection:

This fun onesheet with one of my three musical heroes, Eddie Cochran:

And last but not least my first real W.C. Fields item, which I love from a very early age. Never Give A Sucker An Even Break is a great movie with a great title. Did not expect to snag this one:

Yeah, those Fields LCs went for the opening bid or barely above.  Wish I had any money to spend as I would've been all over them.  Huge congrats on your win!

I plan to buy the Moviegoodz fakeprint next week.

Of the insert from Heritage?

Or one with Maria on it?

So I know a lot of you stayed on the sidelines to watch (as I usually do).  But if you could have bought just one poster from the auction, which one would it have been?

You already know my answer!  By the way, I think I'm finally going to sell my BAT to cover the costs.  So if you think of it that way, I got my Get Carter poster for $305! ;)

Im new here so I hope you all dont mind I just post away. If I could have bought just one, for me, the answer is an easy one. It would have been The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (PEA, 1966). Italian 2 - Folio (39" X 55").

A quick newb question. Are post auction buys for when reserved isnt met?

The Hitchcock 3sh 'The 39 Steps' and it didn't sell, currently at $4000 below estimate.

Well, I dont really pay more for something because it is backed.  I would have much preferred it unbacked actually.  But given how often it comes up for sale, and what it has sold for previously, I was happy with that price.  It is most definitely the most dynamic paper for the film.
