It speaks something of the industry at the time. You won't see many Aussie collectors getting all sniffy and measuring the distance from the border to the registration marks. It was never that formal with daybills, and hooray on that count, I say!!!  :D

That's got to be the same artist as the "Godzilla" and other Frankie poster travesties.  I wonder if anybody has ever cataloged his/her output.  I think it'd be a damn fine collection.

Seriously.  I absolutely adore these, sort of the outsider art of the poster world.

I'd buy it and would be a good idea collecting this stuff, could bring it out at parties and show off.

Bit of Aussie "to die for" artwork.
Such skill ...

Very interesting article Steve. Thanks for posting. The current bid on it is only at $40,000 not including BP. Watch it climb up there when it comes down to the end of the auction. Great looking insert in my eyes. I would love to have it but will never be lucky enough.

Great find Steve BUT found in Ottawa, Illinois.  What a crock!  Ottawa, Ontario Canada (i.e. our nation's capital) would have be something else!

Also hard to believe with the knowledge he apparently has of horror films (and as an artist) he had no idea whatsoever about it's rarity and value...

well I like those crappy Aussie daybills...don't care what anyone things - even my Godzilla.
Anyway, not sure if this qualifies for this topic but here's an Aussie herald (I've got one for sale on ebay now if interested) from Invisible Man Returns

Charlie, the only other auction that could get the right price for the poster is Profiles in History
the owner is selling it right where he should be, if he wants to get the most money for it

I have a feeling that with that rare of a poster, it wouldn't matter were it was auctioned.  Maybe some obscure eBay auction or something may cause it to take a hit.  The 3 or 4 that can compete for it will find it and bid accordingly... Yeah the final tally may be less than an inflated BP price, but for the seller... Ergo if you, Pete, or Bruce listed it, the seller would take more home at the end. And not feed the group of corporate ass clowns in Dallas...

Charlie, Heritage got $31,700 for the Most Dangerous Game half sheet that they sold
http://movieposters.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=7043&lotNo=83393

a rare poster of which only 2 are known at this point. The second poster went for $10,600 (unrestored)
that says it all.......

I often wonder with posters in that price range,If the buyer is buying it because its rare,or buying becayse they like the artwork.

Not really a good argument...

310K - http://movieposters.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=7003&lotNo=86503

143K - http://movieposters.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=7055&lotNo=83010

The first one will always go highest.  Plus the second was in poor shape.  So your whole argument hinges on a comparison between a second known unrestored (yet unsightly) copy?  Like the Franky Insert it will sell for more as the first than the next one...

not a good example Charlie. the first one was sold before the market fell due to the Haggard scandal, and the exit of 2 very important collectors who were driving the market.
The second one of course got trashed by some people here on APF and as we all know, APF comments completely destroy the value of any poster (or so hopes some people) (and in case any of you aren't smart enough, yes that last part is indeed sarcasm)
