I had a close look over The Glass Key image, personally I might keep looking for another restorer. Thanks
Looks much better than they were though!
Steve - have you had many posters restored? I seem to recall you had some 6 sheets worked on at some point (this could just be a fanciful memory) but alas. In my experience, the work Mario has done on these three posters is some of the best I have seen. They were all very rough and the Glass Key in particular had a massive amount of very tricky paper loss. I am just kindly questioning if perhaps your expecations are slightly inflated?
Of course there are slight imperfections one could pick out (yes there is some ink smudging in the printer details and the Paramount logo is not a facsimile) if comparing these examples to a mint unrestored copy coming off the presses but one should also keep in mind that the photos I shared are right up close to the paper with a bright flash - how often do we ever see photos that close of restored areas? - which can reveal all the intricacies of the work.
In general, the posters are meant to be viewed from a slight distance. That said, even up close, what Mario has managed to accomplish both in terms of paper recreation, colour matching and texture is pretty astonishing. Other restorers I contacted were reluctant to even take on the task.
Needless to say, I am very, very pleased with the work done on these posters.
