Thanks for the kind words all!  As you can imagine I'm equally blown away by this one.

Great quad congrats, looks great on the wall, are you planning to leave as it is or will you be getting it restored at some point.

Not a chance.  When I set out to start a Bond quad collection, I decided early on to go for only unbacked posters.  I knew that would be easy enough for everything but the Connerys... but you never know what you'll find!  Those cell pics from last night are really terrible... here is another shot (also with a cell unfortunately) using daylight -- indirect of course!  I also sharpened it a touch so you can see the flaws better.  It's really not too bad.  Some rough folds and it has heavy use in the corners (with small bits missing in a few cases).  However, I would choose this one every time over a NM backed one.  I'm not totally against linen backing, but in the case of my Bond collection I'm trying to stay au naturale...

Poster coup d'etat, indeed, HC!

For the rest of us poster mortals, the Italian posters are the best alternative to the UK quad. Here's the 2P:

Reasonably-priced 1970 1P re-releases are also floating around.

That is a great poster... but what were they doing showing less of Daniela's cleavage?  Being Italians, I figured there would be more, not less!   ;D

On second glance it is clear that someone redrew the British quad images for the Italian posters.  They are similar but clearly distinguishable (and the quad is clearly better IMHO).

Sim Branaghan's book "British Film Posters" profiles Renato Fratini, the Italian illustrator of the quad. The book says he is considered "the greatest British poster artist" whose "technical ability was unsurpassed." Eventually he was the highest paid film poster artist.  He lived life in the fast lane, which caught up to him when he died of a heart attack at 40(!) in 1973.

I believe you've made the right decision, I've sometimes thought I should get my Dr. No quad backed but then I realise that its lasted in its condition for 50 years so all its flaws are part of its history and adds a certain charm. I guess I'm starting to appreciate the patina that come with old posters.

This is the pic I found of Matt turning the internet upside down and inside out for his FRWL quad:

You are the Indiana Jones of poster collectors, my man...and your intuitive sense of research, timing, and patience pays off usually but in this example, you hit the Mega Millions. Really glad you got it, it went to the right collection.

While several have chimed in offering their high fives, I am a bit taken back that this thread hasn't exploded in congratulatory praise, especially from other members who haven't posted yet. This is a find, even without knowing what you paid on the lot, that rivals any in all the years I have been a part of the vocal poster community in the MPF and now here.  I will speak for the silent folks though: they wish they had it. :)

Congrats, such a wonderful poster, a true unicorn...   cheers

Sure is a beaut, as is that Dr No above. Great posters.

I came close to buying a few nice posters off a guy a few months back, but he was offered a FRWL quad for a large chunk of his collection and he went for it...can't say I blame him, it's a real beauty.

The only caveat I find to not getting older posters restored and linen backed is that the acids already in the paper, I understand, will continue to cause the paper problems.

The linen backing process, I again understand, arrests that, brings out the colours and preserves.

But anyway, now there are two posters I can't imagine ever owning in the same thread.

I'd love to get an unbacked From Russia With Love one day so I'm pleased Matt has ticked this off his wants list. I turned down the opportunity of getting an unfolded near mint copy for £3000 about three years ago - I now wished I hadn't. And that Moonraker "Seiko" quad - I had no idea that was a rare style. This and the "non-Seiko" version were offered in a Cameo auction a year or two ago.  I just bid on (and won) the non-seiko - they both went for the same price.

If you decide to pass on something like that again, please let me know!!!  ;D

I don't think it is crazy rare, but I've only ever seen a handful.  And just because it is rare doesn't mean it is valuable... just one of those oddball printings for the completists to fight over.  Which, I'm sadly becoming!

Good job HC!

That is a little bit different than your now-deleted reply!   ;)

Thanks for shout out and no worries, I realize Bond isn't everyone's cup of tea.  That is why I posted it here instead of in the latest acquisitions...

Well, also because your Dr. No is in fantastic shape in comparison with my new FRWL!  That is the next one on my Bond unicorn list...

Nice thread, very intersting stuff.

I didn't see the German posters, so here are some.
I also included some of my favorite lc's (here in Germany the prices
for those glossy lc's went sky-high. Up to $400 - $500. For certain
single cards! And the sets are huge, up to 34 cards ..).

DR.NO is a 1960s re-release 1-sh. All others are first release.
Missing are, as far as i Know,  DR.NO (1-sh + double panel), RUSSIA (double panel),
GOLDFINGER (double panel), YOLT (Advance), OHMSS (C-Style).

This portion of the Moonraker 1-stop looks pretty good as a one sheet (it's still in one piece, just have it tri-folded horizontally, so it's like getting three 1 sheet posters):

Thought I would post this in here...

It's the Cinema at Whitby, not long before they got rid of it. I guess I don't need to tell you the year...

First time I've seen this "premiere" poster for Casino Royale, which references the February 1967 Playboy issue. (According to IMDB, the premiere was April 19, 1967, 9 days before the national opening).  It's subway-sized (58"x44") and has art similar to the Spanish one sheet:

Yeah, where can I find a 1:1 scale digital image of one... Hmmm... Found it.

Wonder how they got the tunnel to look so good.  Probably a backdrop or something...
