I don't think it is over-printing.
I am aware that the extra layers were hand painted on, and it certainly looks that way when you look at the poster closely.
There are not many of these posters around, that's for sure.

This is similar to the FYEO US One Sheet and a couple of International One Sheets where shorts were painted on over the bikini.

There are a lot of U.S. posters of the 1940s and 1950s that were painted over in this fashion when they were used in Canada. They particularly objected to sexy girls and guns.

I can understand paying people to "black out" so-called "offensive areas", but paying them to carefully over-paint posters one at a time is beyond ridiculous!

Very true, Bruce.
It's an interesting one indeed!

Unless one of us poster nuts gets the chance to acquire one, or one of use here knows someone with a personal copy, then we won't know for sure.
I'll do a little more digging and see what info crops up.

Good "Sherlocking," Adam. The image you found on Bruce's sight certainly looks close to being associated with that mystery poster's design. Aside from the font style, the poster size, and even the similar discoloration pattern in the paper all may bode in that direction..  :D

Adam,

Have you seen this poster before (or is it part of your collection already?) From the same seller of the £15,000 item.

The finding of that other LALD poster makes it look more and more likely it was part of the Marler Hayley set where the DCs were displayed, two either side of the quads which were themselves, on top of each other.

Doesn't seem likely that a bus poster from the UK would have survived this length of time.

Happy to be proved wrong.

Guys,

I know some of you may not be aware of the second poster.
Thought you might be interested in this:

Dr. No UK Quad - Irish Issue (I do not own this piece)

Hi, Adam!

I've seen one of these - unfortunately, I don't have an image of it - but I can vouch for the fact that the clothing appeared to have been hand-painted on - incredible as that might sound!  I agree with Bruce - the thought of that happening is 'beyond ridiculous' but maybe it was some sort of over-printing process which just gave the appearance of being individually hand done.  There are numerous examples of UK quads with Irish censorship over-painting which was definitely individually applied.  So it's not impossible!

Jeff,

Yeah, I have seen that poster before ... But I'm not sure I have it.
It will be a while before I get to the Dr. No gear to check as well!

Simes,

I suppose any poster can survive - if some of the posters a few guys here can survive for 50+ years, then a poster from the 70s should be OK.
(Whether or not it is part of the bus panel set??) I'm intrigued with your Marler Haley proposal - it's an interesting one, ain't it!?

Terry,

Thanks for that.
Bruce is right, sure, it is a crazy thought BUT I doubt there would have been many of these over-painting quads made available, so they could well have been hand painted. I'm talking to a guy at the moment who used to own one, but sold it a long time ago; something he tells me he now regrets. I've also tried to get in touch with the guy he sold it to - so just waiting for a reply; hopefully we can get some clearer answers!  ;D

Hey guys,

I've taken a fair few photographs today.

I've decided to post two Moonraker UK quads.
Some people may not know there is a different version.

The first one is the one you usually see:

Moonraker Uk Quad

This is the rarer version:

Moonraker UK Quad Alternative Style

Notice the very subtle difference.

Very subtle, indeed.
I am assuming that either the studio or Ian Fleming's estate demanded the Fleming accreditation be moved, thus making the rare version a 'recall?'

It's a possibility, Brude.
Seems to be a very scarce version either way!

If I recall correctly, there are actually two different 40x60s... the one you pictured and another that is almost the same but without the orange bars (basically a giant 1-sheet).

I don't mean to sound harsh (and I'm an advocate that everyone is free to sell for whatever price), but you've just shot yourself in the foot with that comment.
Some sellers set prices at certain levels; sellers who aren't in a rush to sell, but do sell in time for what they state. If you couldn't give it away, then that says a lot with regards to the price you put on it and those you were targeting.

Mel, I can't believe that's the first time you've seen that GF 40x60!
The way you (admirably) trawl for images should have meant this popped up straight away!

Ogami - rolled TSWLM ... Diggin' that!
