Thought the 80's restrikes all had the films' titles at the bottom of the poster.

This doesn't seem to be in evidence here...??

I don't think it was part of the 1980s lot either. I have an East Hemi style that I'm 99% certain is legit and it has the GAU logo that was in use by 1973.

By the way Simes, I also have a Man With the Golden Gun one sheet that I'm certain to be original (it's not up on my site yet) but it doesn't have a West or East Hemi marking at the bottom. I recall Adz mentioning that he also had one without the mark and I wondered if you'd come across any yourself?

I haven't, but I must also state I am probably not up on all the US 1 sheet pre Moonraker variations outside of restrikes.

The seller (fain2) claimed he worked "at the studio" and was/is selling a number of 1980s restrikes, including some Diamonds Are Forever and Man With The Golden Gun.

At least some of the East Hemis were printed with the LAIPU logo (see below right picture).

"Damian" wrote the article on MPA but did not cover LALD but he wrote this:

The LPIU union logo started appearing on 1-sheets in 1968 (this is in reference to my own collection which contains a good number of 1-sheets from each year from about the early 1950’s onwards). Arranging my collection in NSS# order (which I know is not strictly in chronological order) the first 1-sheet with the LPIU logo is Hang ‘Em High NSS# 68/108. The GAU union was formed by a merger of the LPIU and a sister union on Labor Day 1972, well after the release of Diamonds Are Forever, which came out in December 1971.

I will digress here because the issue of the printer’s logo seems to be fairly complicated to me.

The earliest 1-sheet (by NSS#) that I own with a GAU logo on it is for A Clockwork Orange, but that is a special case.  Its NSS# is 72/30, and it was released in February 1972 before the GAU union was formed; however, it was originally released as an X certificate movie, and the 1-sheet I have is for the R-rated version which was rated in 1972 according to the MPAA website and released in 1973 according to IMDB. There is one other 1-sheet with a 72/XXX NSS number that I own with the GAU logo, which is The Godfather (I actually have two 1-sheets one with each printers logo) and this film was released in March 1972, so the GAU logo must have been a later printing and the LPIU on an earlier printing. The 73/XXX 1-sheets I have are mostly LPIU, with a couple of exceptions, and another example where I have a 1-sheet with each logo. It is the latter 74/XXX numbers before the GAU logo takes over.

I'm sure Benito knows that this poster isn't from 1963.  Even putting his experience in the hobby aside, it clearly says 1974 in the lower left fine print!  And while there are half a dozen or more of these r74 posters listed right now -- some in better shape and priced less than $100 -- I still have never seen a first release 1963 poster on eBay since I started collecting in early 2008.  The first release is a VERY rare poster.

That copyright date is a dead give away  :D

Since I see at least one other ebay listing of a Bond poster as from the early sixties...Transamerica didnt buy UA until 1967 and that logo didnt start appearing until late 1967.

Good call Paul!

By the way, this very rare UK quad for Live and Let Die arrived today.  It's not the prettiest of designs (the Marler Haley's never are) and it's a bit dinged up along the top, but I honestly don't think I've seen another one...

And unlike my Live and Let Die, that is a damn pretty poster!  Those three lovely ladies look like the Sirens.

I found it at a small auction house in the UK in a lot with a few other posters. I paid a handsome sum for though so I wish it had been a bit more obscure of a sale  ;D

It looks like it was lightly hand folded across the center at some point, but yes, rolled.  I think the Marler Haley sets were mailed to the theaters (only for premiers at the Odeon chains from what I've heard) that way.  If they ended up folded it was done after the fact by theater employees.

Good question.

I have the full Octopussy Marler set and yes, all rolled.  Quad and four DCs.

That said, my quad has colour stills attached which would make folding difficult.  But whether the quads were dispatched with stills attached or not, is not known.

Also, the stills were of the UK foh design, but Without the usually attendant credits in a white box or bottom border.

The View / Kill set also had stills attached to the quad.

Great set Simes!

Do you know which movies all got the Marler Haley treatment?  The earliest posters I've seen were for Diamonds are Forever.  Adam bought most of the DCs when they were on eBay but he missed the quad (http://www.bondposters.com/Diamonds_Are_Forever_1971.php).  And I've seen the View to a Kill set as well.  Do you know of any before or after?

I believe the Marlers went from DAF to TLD - which is to say I have never seen anything for before or after those films.

The Gg quad was cool - it was just the golden gun itself, in pieces.

Of absolutely no interest except to the most intra niche of completists of this niche genre, is the below.

Notable only for the fact that it is an example of poster campaign that Includes Adele's credit.  No other (English language) poster includes her - to my knowledge.  (Cue the flood of corrections)

In terms of all variations for this version 2 One Sheet, the below are those I have found and own.  I believe it is complete but wonder as to the existence of an 'October' only version.

SF V2 US 1 Sheet - Bond lying down - October (?? - Not owned)
SF V2 US 1 Sheet - Bond lying down - October in IMAX
SF V2 US 1 Sheet - Bond lying down - November
SF V2 US 1 Sheet - Bond lying down - November 9
SF V2 US 1 Sheet - Bond lying down - November 9 - with Adele credit
SF V2 US 1 Sheet - Bond lying down - November 9 in IMAX
SF V2 US 1 Sheet - Bond lying down - December
SF V2 US 1 Sheet - Bond lying down - December in IMAX

I'm glad I've limited myself to quads!  I think there were only 4 styles of those!

Well, five actually.  But there is an element of pedantry involved.

V1 - in the tunnel
V2 - lying down
V3 - black main release
V4 - Piracy warning
V5 - something Odeon brought out in relation to a competition.

Were there any others?

I must have missed v5.  Is it a cross-promotional poster?  If so I usually don't collect those.  But if it is more like the theater-specific Marler Haley posters then I supposed I'll need to track one down!
