Anyone else in the UK lost LAMP and MPB connections ... ?
« on: February 06, 2010, 11:42:03 AM »
Hi!
Can't seem to call-up either LAMP or MPB at the moment.
Anyone else in the UK able to check for me, please?
Thanks.
Terry

Many thanks, Paul!
Always a relief to know it's not my fault!
By the way, further to our recent exchange of messages, Chester may not be 'the Frozen North' - but it looks like it might still be 'the Frozen' judging by the weather forecasts!
A warm welcome awaits any Forum members who make the trip!
Best wishes,
Terry

When I saw you where going I was pondering a trip down, it's a while since I saw you both last, though  last time you had left Sue to do all the work while you chased Jack up a beanstalk!!!

Folks

the servers are being worked on and both MoviePosterBid (as well as my other 15 sites) and LAMP are hosted by the same company, so LAMP and MoviePosterBid are down until the task is done.

I can't even get email... so it's a total relocation, probably because the servers have been having trouble and they're being replaced

Every server advertises that they have "99.9% uptime", but for 99.9% of them, that is a load of hooey. When they have a problem every month or two, they are down from a couple of hours to a couple of days.

We had to go to the very best company, and pay $400 a month, to find a company that truly has "99.9% uptime".

well, my servers really are 99.9%
today is an extraordinary day because of issues they've been having.
however, the amount of time today is rather long.. expected time frame is 2pm PST

and Bruce, $400 a month doesn't guarantee anything.. They'll have the same issues

the servers I rent  are in a major Cleveland server hub and 2 weeks ago there was a dedicated denial of service attack. I believe today they're working on issues related to that in the hopes of locking them out. But we both know that cyber attacks are a thing of constant evolution

We can agree to disagree on this, but the $400 a month buys you 24 hour monitoring, and full back-up servers, and the moment there is an outage they switch you to a backup, fix the problem and then switch you back.

It only shows up once a month or two, and that is the only real difference between the $400 a month guys and the $50 to $100 a month guys, so for most people it isn't worth it, but for us, with three auctions a week with $60.000 in sales, it IS worth it.

Bruce.. the backup servers were also being replaced. The whole sectiopn of servers across many companies all had to schedule the repairs/replacements all for the same time and it was announced to those of us who rent servers there.

The cyber-attack was traced to China. Who knows what they were seeing in these servers. One attack was directed at MPB specifically (it was foiled.. no one got in thankfully) and I can't imagine what kind of data they were hoping to get and no one else is hosted on my machines except my websites and while it may be there are some sensitive servers also hosted there, maybe they were just rolling through the entire server farm trying to find back doors and the like.

Maybe it was the Matrix fighting back.
