Oh and Mel - it sure looks like someone is beginning to come down with a nasty vintage paper bug ;)

It is mighty interesting how the signatures on this one and the one Mel posted in the other thread are completely different, the two I noticed really quickly were Bruce Willis and Quentin Tarantino.  Too bad we can't get them face to face and let them argue over which one has the real set of sigs.

Did anybody participate in the Live Auctioneers/Gene Andrewski estate auction today?  Mostly vintage stuff.

I'd never heard of Live Auctioneers until last week. They occasionally host movie poster auctions.

I was very impressed with the auction process & software - very smooth and easy to use.

I did, and it was actually Mid-Hudson Auction Galleries that was running that auction.  Liveauctioneers is simply a medium that other various houses use to get their auctions online.

those idiots.. registering for the second auction was such a pain (& did not happen in time, even though I was reg'd for the first auction) so I just blew it off

I know several others who had the same experience with Mid-Hudson

the owners of teh collection left alot of money on the table for that collection by selling through those idiots

Rich

You couldn't be more right. They are going to mostly get wholesale prices from dealers who will re-consign the items to me or you, thus guaranteeing they get half or less of what they might have otherwise.

And of course, while the collectors do get many bargains, they also get over-graded and mis-described items that may well be poorly packed and have nosebleed shipping, which will cause a lot of headaches and cancel out many of the bargains.

All the more reason people who have collections should leave clear instructions on how their items should be liquidated should something happen to them. But few people do, because everyone wants to think they can live forever.

From a collector's perspective, everything was fine.  The bidding software was excellent.

Also, I did call them and they said dealers were going to be actively involved and looking for below-market bids, so I'm not surprised the dealers dominated.

As far as low prices, I had zero interest in 98% of the stuff for sale since it was vintage, so I can't judge that.

Judging by the results, I would say a lot of bidders got some pretty damn good deals!

Specifically the Deadline at Dawn 1-sheet and the Hangover Square and Lodger inserts...

So Mel, I presume you won the Bond lot?

Are Pirates of the Caribbean posters worth $100+ ? or were all the drunk bidders on Heritage tonight?

Im asking what is a serious question to me. Those two PotC auctions went against everything I thought I had learned.

The Jaws and Taxi Driver b2's( I know they graded lower) went for less.

The posters for Curse of the Black Pearl aren't easy to come by these days.  They're heavily reprinted, especially the skeleton version.  If I did not already have a set in my collection, I can say that I wouldn't be put off by $100 a pop on those, assuming that they're in top condition AND double sided.  But, if you don't like the Pirates movies, then they're not worth a crap!
Best regards,

Holiday

Thanks. That helped clearing my confusion. Makes perfect sense that way.

I like the first Pirate movie as I do have the (pardon my terminology) big French version. I just dont like it at even half those numbers. I would rather spread my limited resources around elswhere. That B2 Jaws would have looked mighty nice on one of these walls. Live and learn.

I do appreciate this board.

Glad you're having fun here, Zorba.  The b2 for Jaws is a cool poster, no doubt.

If you're patient, you'll find copies of the Pirates for well within the $50 range I think.  Heritage tends to have bidders that are willing to pay a bit more so that they don't have to keep hunting.  If you're a hunter, as Thierry would attest, there are good buys all over the place.
Best regards,

Holiday

Hey, did Zorba and the latest new members get a proper welcome from the admins/owners of APF in the WELCOME board?  I think some may have been missed.  Holiday and Thierry are slacking methinks....

Now you tell me  :P

I was watching that and thought no way could that be for real.

Oh well I always have this tuseday's Deep Throat auction to look forward to watching. No pun intended but does that come with a t-shirt?

Nope. The "T-shirt" auctions are next Tuesday and Thursday, and end one week later. There will be an image of the shirt on the auctions.

Yeah, I've ordered from him a few times.  It's all been good.  Landed this Casino Royale pressbook from him today - first pressbook I've every purchased:

One reason to celebrate the pending implosion of the Greek economy and the euro - cheaper posters from Europe.  Yours truly landed this 120x160 FB for $50 from Ebay France:

That's probably fair market value on that poster, to be honest.

Yeah, you're right, but the main point is that the Euro is sinking back to more reasonable levels:
