Does the original on linen also appear that vibrant, color wise?

What a huge difference in color contrast between them (the 2 originals, I mean).

I think you are just seeing poor photography on the 2nd original...

Good to know, as those 2 images are way off from one another.  thumbsup.gif

The Stafford & Co should be nearer the bottom of the poster but this one is about 3cm from the bottom looking at the tape measure on the photo. I didn't think you would find one rolled considering the age, but might be mistaken. Someone has paid either a lot of money for a repo or got a very good deal on a rare poster albeit trimmed

Thanks. Very clear.

What did you think it would closed at? Are you surprised?
I believe there is a lot of hype right now around Star Wars, which is causing the prices to bubble. It will be interesting to see how the EMP Star Wars auction goes in December.

We have never sold one in c7 condition for so much at auction, I don't think anyone has. So yes I was a bit surprised. We sell them in C9-C10 condition for that price all the time (we just sold one today).

As much as I am tempted, I can not bring myself to buy in C7 condition. C8 brings a smile to my dial and C9 rings my bells

But then, I already have the Star Wars that makes me smile.  Style D.

TC for Rio is not my cup of tea.  I dont dislike it just think that there are other better options out there. Not surprised it wasnt sold.

And this could have been a nice, smaller piece from the film, for Mrs. Mike. Does she like the movie, too?

Little known fact about this poster.... it actually has a very light grey background, not white.

Original:

Original on linen (easier to see grey tint to paper):

Known 27x39" reprint (notice high placement of Stafford line):

I'd say someone got hosed....

Yep, this recent sale is clearly for a boot.

I have this one, and as HC says, the white stands out boldly on the grey and the colors are extremely vivid for sure. It's one snazzy poster.

The cover piece for the Heritage Signature Auction, Red Headed Woman (1932) one sheet, goes for $77,675.

http://movieposters.ha.com/itm/comedy/red-headed-woman-mgm-1932-one-sheet-27-x-41-style-c/a/7113-86081.s?ic4=ListView-Thumbnail-071515

It's a real beaut, and although the colors appear a little "boosted" in the photo, it appears to be in great condition.  As John from Poster Mountain told me when I was having an older poster restored, and as others have mentioned here, the older red inks can fade very easily, and become very washed out if a poster is bleached during the linen backing process.  The background and hair and all are such a bright red, and the letters and borders are so white, I just wonder how that all appears in person, and per the description which areas of the background were touched up.

Regardless, it's a beauty, and I'm sure the new owner is stoked that he/she won it.

While the video quality and white balance are far from the best, Red Headed Woman is right behind the podium, and the reds look a bit more subdued (i'm meaning the vibrancy of the red inks) in comparison to the the catalog image.

But i agree, Brandon, it's such a beautiful poster, and would look amazing up on the wall and part of anyone's collection!!  bed1

The colors on this piece look incredible, and the reflectivity of the inks make it very difficult to photograph correctly.
The speckled background also makes it very easy to tell where restoration has been performed when looking closely (though the busyness of the pattern helps hide it upon first glance). This poster has had very, very little work performed and is a gorgeous piece.

Right, there was a stark contrast in how it looked on the video and the photo, but as you said, the video was pretty rough quality.

Agreed, it is a stunning example from Hollywood's Golden Age.

Yeah, photography can be difficult, and of course it's always best to see something first-hand.

Thanks for the info.
