Do you guys ever wonder who the buyers are?  It's insane to me that there are so many people willing to spend so much money on movie posters, let alone single lobby cards.

Who are these people?

Thanks Rosa!!  I actually really screwed up my bidding strategy...I really wanted the Neighbors and Sherlock Jr. Cards...I was underbidder on 6 Keaton cards...and 10 lots total...sooo I didn't really spend nearly as much as I thought I would...absentee bidding...I get what I deserve....everything today was just random consolation prizes

I don't think there are any naysayers on this thread.  Just questions asked, and Tait answered mine.  Thank you.

I picked up a bit of sentiment against lobbycards/unknown old movies compared to the usual collector tastes. If it was not there nor intended, my bad. Another answer to the question who buys these things is of course: "old guys".

Missed out on a few lots basically because I thought the prices were too high to start. One lot I only needed 2 cards from and have purchased the other 3 for less than a quarter of the reserve. Oh well.

A fairly good number of the OS were also passed on, I think, for that same reason, too, Louie. The opening bid amounts were just too high.  Doh.gif

Agree.  Was crosschecking some w/ history over at EMP, but add in BP, shipping, etc., didn't seem like a worthwhile endeavor.

I didn't understand how they came up with the opening bids either...some were way too high...but on the other hand some were clearly very low to encourage bidding....I Am beating myself up today for not going all out on the kennel murder case 7 cards....I think the hammer was $1200...those cards are worth nearly $1000 a pop...in 2006 Heritage sold 4 cards for nearly $5500....so comparatively...based on past results.... there were some mega deals!!

There are exceptions.... I'm only 34 and next year will be my 20th year collecting lobby cards!!

I think you did really well considering the starting prices, internet glitches, hidden shipping costs & generous BP  :P

And ... as you said... this is just the start!  :)

Profiles wasn't clear if the $1.9 million was just the hammer or after BP...they clearly separate those numbers on the auction results PDF ....and keep them separate for a reason.....heritage lists all results after BP in post auction results... 3 million for the entire collection last year is starting to seem like a better deal...regardless of the extra work or time

This German poster, for the 1929 German film, Manolescu - Der König der Hochstapler, and featuring a striking image of Brigitte "Metropolis" Helm, sold for $799.00, on the bay yesterday.  clap clap

Well spotted Rich. I tried to look out for their figures but couldn't find them this time around. Certainly an incredibly number...for both auction houses.
