Let's just say this isn't an academic question… What do you think the best things would be to do to protect against the ammonia problems down the line?
they can buffer the acidity.
if there are other chemicals that cause aging, they can use the correct buffering agent for each one, presuming none of them cause other issues.
any process would need to be repeated every 5-10 years because all you're really doing when you buffer the acids is delay them and the process begins again.
if there are any specific ammonia buffering agents, I wouldn't know. This is actually the first time I have heard of anyone using a paper that was ammonia based for a piece of art, but it's an example of how in the field of illustration, the art is viewed as throw-away. Less so today than 30-40-50 years ago of course.
