The fantasy, wonder and spectacle are all vanishing, with this much contact between actors and the public (imho).
I somewhat agree. I assume most stars are pressured to constantly promote and interact with fans via social media solely to promote their careers.
But some are holdouts. Chris Pine (Trek, Wonder Woman) said "I've got nothing important or interesting to say!"
And it's arguably not that different from the past when stars appeared on late-night TV shows, were featured in newspapers/mags, and hired assistants to "ghost write" responses to thousands of snail mail fan letters.
Mark Hamill, to his credit, only devotes 10% of his posts to Star Wars. 50% of his posts are political commentary, issues of the day, and charities:
