Um, What about the Batman movies, Nightmare Before Christmas... Alice in Wonderland, and Beetlejuice?
I should have highlighted the word 'completely'.
Beetlejuice is another of his more personal films and is very close to being completely successful.
Alice had a nice performance by Depp, but was a complete failure of a film otherwise.
Batman had a great performance by Nicholson and a solid turn by Keaton, but nothing that Burton brought to the table added anything to the film (see my quote and Kevin Smith's stories about Burton as to why or just watch any of the Dark Knight flicks). His trademark overly cartoony style simply didn't fit the material, though it was better with the darker
Batman Returns. Songs from Prince? Way out of place...
NBC, which he didn't direct by the way, is a mediocre film, with mediocre songs (I love Oingo Boingo, but a little Elfman goes a looooong way). Both
James & the Giant Peach and
Coraline were far more interesting films in the stop-motion genre. Burton did write the story, but that has aways been his Achilles heel...
