Hi all!
Thought I'd document here my consignment experience w/ EMP as it goes along so you can experience it w/ me.
Last fall, I started to finally tackle the posters I've been accumulating over the years and getting them stored in the flat file cabinets I bought a few years back. In doing so, I realized I have way too many posters that will never see the walls or light of day. Most of my posters were still in tubes or packages from EMP or HA or ebay and hadn't even been opened, so I decided once I opened everything it was time to start thinning the herd.
I live in Madison, WI, so none of the major dealers are really close, but my folks live in Little Rock so when we looked at visiting over Christmas I decided I'd load some of my excess stock in the back of the minivan and make a stop in West Plains.
Emailed Bruce and asked if it was OK to just drop stuff off----he replied Yes, people do it all the time, so I said OK, let's do it. Told him about when I'd arrive and despite having two kids in van on way down, made it approximately on time.
Now the stuff I'm consigning isn't my best stuff (and my best stuff is probably a lot of people's trash), but there's some decent things in there---Scarlett Johanssen Lost in translation probably being the best I included, but some recent posters, and who knows maybe a folded one or two that may bring a decent amount. Most in pretty nice shape I believe. Probably 150-200 in total that I expect may take a year or so to fully auction off.
Anyways, Bruce and Clark met me outside and helped me unload the tubes and things from my van. Got to shake Bruce's hand and shoot the breeze for a bit. Told him how I'd been bidding with him since his eBay days. Bruce was dressed in a blue hoodie and bore a remarkable resemblance to Bill Belichik in my eyes (that's not a dis---I like Bill). Super friendly and told me what to expect.
So, my first auctions ends next Tuesday---some of the items that were already flattened, so if they're ready, they go if they're the type for that auction.
Get the email the next day after they're listed:
Your current 5 items are:
3f001 CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND Hungarian 16x23 1981 different Tibor Helenyi art, rare!
3f032 PIRANHA Turkish 1981 Roger Corman, great art of man-eating fish & sexy girl by Over!
3f396 BLUES BROTHERS Polish 27x37 1983 really cool close up different artwork by Leszek & Jadwiga!
3f533 DEPARTED advance Japanese 29x41 2006 Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Martin Scorsese!
3f759 KUNG FU HUSTLE French 16x21 2005 Stephen Chow, kung-fu comedy, Siu-Lung Leung as The Beast!
All but the last one were posters I purchased from Bruce previously, so more than likely gonna lose $ there unless they sell for way more than I paid, but $'s not really the point for me---just need the space and restored sanity. It was a bit curious to see the Blues Brothers rated as Good to very Good, considering I purchased it in Very Good to Fine condition and honestly didn't remove it from its original shipping tube until a few months ago. Piranha was also differently graded, as it's now Very Good vs. the Very Good to Fine I purchased in. I try not to purchase posters at Bruce's in under Very Good condition, but sometimes you have to.
We'll see---I know condition is subjective, but hoping not too many more end up listed in a lesser condition than which I purchased them in.
So that's the story thus far, and we'll see how it goes. Thanks for the read.
