Hey man, Event Horizon IS pretty disturbing!  Not sure it is top 10 disturbing but I digress.

Another disturbing film with Sam Neill is In The Mouth of Madness.

I found Hostel and it's torture porn orgy sickening but it's just not my thing.

How about House of 1000 Corpses?  Also made me sick...

I was surprised how balanced and thought out most of these where.
I half expected Twilight to be in it.

Actually, except for THE EXORCIST, I think WOLF CREEK is more disturbing than any of the aforementioned films...

Horror movie stuff doesn't bother me long term.

The knife fight scene in Saving Private Ryan is the worst for me because it was so realistic.  I'll never watch that scene again.

That's a good one Mel.  Particularly "squeam-inducing"...

Wolf Creek was pretty "awesome" the whole "..head on a stick.." bit was like WTF ! LOL

Ohh another awesome one was "haute tension" .. Ill never think of a BJ the same way again !!! If you do watch this one make sure you get he unrated version .. Its a French film and when they brought it to the US they cut scenes to get it down from NC17 to an R rating :(

Schramm
Cannibal Holocaust (how can you have The Blair Witch Project and not this???)
Sex and the City
Nekromantik
The Cell (of mainstream stuff, I think this one takes the cake.  The music box/intestine scene was pretty strong)
Jacob's Ladder
Antropophagus
Cigarette Burns
Visitor Q
Last House on the Left (the original)
Schan
Thanks.  You know what you did.

Number #1 for me is easily The Exorcist. Not so much for the content, though it is a pretty fucked up movie, but more for the circumstances.

My father took me to see it when I was nine years old. My father is a funny guy.  8)

Nothing like the Exorcist for father/son bonding!

List is missing Audition.

While I am at it, I might throw Oldboy up there.  That movie was just messed up.

Society was kinda like Braindead though.  It was much more funny than disturbing.

I'm waaay more on board with this list than the ilovefilm list in the original post.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.  It's one of the most disturbing horror films, and one of the best.  I saw that when I was in middle school and it haunted me for a while.  I picked up the dvd a couple of years ago.  Although it might not have the same impact that it did when it was released in the early 1990's, it still packs a punch.

Here's the trailer:

Good call, spacething.  I haven't seen HENRY in quite some time, but I remember it as very unsettling. There was a reality to this film that sent chills up my spine and stayed with me long after the show ended...

Check out a movie called SEED it is a very disturbing film. The opening scene is just wrong and there is a torture scene towards the middle of the movie that is crazy. Low budget with mixed reviews but I would definitly consider it disturbing.

I also read that some of the animal torture scenes were real footage too .. They even got permission from PETA to use them to portray the in-humanity of it all ..

If this is true, that is simply nauseating.

What excuse could there possibly be to torture animals for film?!

However, I doubt it was actually done.
