And the thing is, in the first SW (Episode 4, A New Hope), there are no CG FX (unless you are looking at the the later RR, where Lucas went in and "revisited" the flicker).
All the effects are physical fx, meaning that all the ships, the space battles, the exploding Death Star etc were filmed, using actual built props and models. There were some "after fx" like adding the glow to the light sabers or enhancing the shots of weapons being fired, scenes shot against blue screen etc, which had been used forever, at that point) but all the alien characters, for example, were actual costumes, makeup or masks
Later on, Yoda was CGI, when he flew around the room, light saber in hand. Even Jaba was a CG creation, in the later films.
The original series, for what they did and had to work with, were ground-breaking, in so many ways. Bravo to that!!
