So, why the hate?

Seems that a lot of collectors shun these like the proverbial red-headed step-child, but I do have a few of these and I find that the border art and photos chosen make them quite colourful collectibles.

I understand that they can be very hard to authenticate release date wise, but I still don't understand why they're so unpopular?

They usually have grease pencil mustaches on beautiful women...it's that simple  ;D

Realistically....they oversaturate the market in unspeakable quantities....they are condemned as later release....condition is often an issue....and to be blunt too many people have thumbed through heaps of them that were drawn on and mutilated by grease pencil pervs...

However SPANISH release lobby cards from the 1930's... Especially MGM and universal pictures lobbies are an attractive alternative...most of the ones I have seen from top titles are in pretty rough shape..

Quick story..

I had a friend who bought a Box of these Mexican lobby cards at a flea market in Laredo and called me
Saying he had found a cache of rare movie posters.....Casablanca, Tarzan, maltese falcon, king kong, Abbott and Costello etc..I told him I would take a look...
When we started going through them...we found dozens of the best cards completely mutilated by grease pencil mustaches on the women.....drawn on boobs, a beard on Ingrid Bergman, wieners drawn on faces.....etc....about 75% of them in fact were written on in some way...

I have talked to several other collectors who had the same experience...

I dig my Mexican LC's and like all good memorabilia it takes time and patience in to find the best of the best.  I've got a lot of these and can't understand who wouldn't love this great artwork:

Wow.. Very nice photos, Mike. Did you take these images yourself? The lighting and color look fantastic.

 cheers

Thanks and yes I did.  I built 2 vacuum tables - 1 for posters and 1 for lobby cards.   The material is evenly lit from both sides and photographed using a flat-field lens on a Nikon3200 24 megapixel camera in RAW format.   The photos come out great.
