Laurent Durieux
« on: March 21, 2014, 11:42:40 PM »
After Stout and Ansin, I think it's time to give Durieux his own thread.

My favorite:

The rest of my Durieux collection.  Post yours.

More to come, I hope.

He's rather hit or miss for me.  I really like his approach to color, but I think his composition needs some work.

I still think that The Iron Giant is his best, as well as the best on the title.

Interesting.  The only reason I didn't get Iron Giant is because I didn't like the colors.  I still don't, but it might have been a mistake on my part.

Agree on The Iron Giant. I dig the retro styled one sheet very much, but the LD print nails the whole point of the film better than anything else released to date.

I would even argue its a top 5 Mondo print of all time. Fantastic composition in this case, terrific colors, wonderful lettering and credit style/placement.

Also of note in his portfolio is the other Metropolis (horizontal) and the one he did for Peter Pan (novel version).

Sold for £1,028. Some of these sales in £ make little sense, to wit pretty much every Christie's poster auction.

My sister moved to London a few years and say everything that would cost $1 in US costs £1 in UK.

robthebuyer would be a more adequate user name.

That Peter Pan is great, Blue, Orange and a splash of Green. Magnificent use of colors.

I actually listened to this book on tape on a recent trip.  It was pretty good and probably a lot better than the Brendan Fraser movie.

Yeah, variant sold out quickly, forgot about 1pm start.  I'm going to buy two regulars and trade one later to ease the pain of the $30 shipping cost.

I really like this, but don't feel the need to own it, but then again I am tempted to get a reg in order to have a shot at winning the inks. Hmmm

I know most will disagree but I am 100% for time sales. So tired of this flipper BS/quick profit mentality.

Then maybe you shouldn't advertize the sale before it happens (tons of lurkers out there) and definitely should not forget when it happens.  Then you could get it at the normal price and not have to deal with the scavengers.

Really like the colors and art on this one, but am passing. I have too many LD prints that are probably going to be framed that I prefer more than this one.

He is probably the best pure illustrator in the screen print game at this point, especially in the Mondo stable.

Well, the Peter and Wendy open edition (3 days availability) was like 370 and after his recent surge in popularity due to the wonderful gallery show he put on at Mondo, I'm going to guess this one is a bit higher.

However the addition of the variant might keep it around the same number, who knows.
